Post by Mrs Peel » Tue Jan 31, 2006 9:08 pm

This addon was originally requested by fluid here I have since had several opportunities to use this utility for myself and fluid is right, this is a VERY useful piece of software. Thanks for putting us onto it dude!

Exodus WhyReboot
Exodus WhyReboot is a small Windows application that displays a list of pending file operations that will occur after rebooting your computer. This is useful in determining why an installer has notified you that a reboot is needed.

What it does:
* Examines documented registry locations for post-reboot file copy/rename/delete operations.
* Examines documented registy locations for "Run Once" applications: these will run once on the next reboot, and are probably used by an installer to perform post-reboot file cleanup and other operations such as registry manipulation.
* While it may be possible to detect these kinds of system changes, this is beyond WhyReboot's scope at this time.

I rebuilt this WhyReboot addon because I decided it was tidier to install this into the Program Files rather than the System32 folder, as I had with the original version. And since my INF-building skills are more advanced now I was actually able to get everything exactly where it should be

Thanks for the release.

May I suggest using .PNG for future shots of dialogue boxes? I think you will find the quality beats the living daylight out of JPEG *and* that the file size is often better to boot.

Well I guess you better lodge your complaint about that to the program author, cos I'm just linking to the screenshot on his website:

I only provide screenshots with my releases as a courtesy. If I had to make them all myself and upload them to image hosting service it would take me as much extra time to do that as it usually does to make the actual addon.

;)

Rebuilt with an uninstaller and also added a CPL applet, but now I notice that there has been no replies to this for EIGHTEEN MONTHS - not even when I made the effort to update it two months ago - I am wondering why the hell I even bothered :x

This is one of the most useful utilities I have discovered since my time on this board, especially for using to monitor post-install reboot behaviour during addon making, so if I don't get some indication that this has value to others too it will be nuked for lack of interest....

Consider this your seven days warning.... tick-tock.... tick-tock....
