[Abandoned] .net 1.1 & 2 integration addon.

I realized today that I can make a switchless installer for .NET 1.1 and 2.0 that would be about 24.5MB in size (vs. the current 26.9MB for the two combined). I find it hard to believe that any CAB addon will ever come close to that size, which means that at least in my opinion, there's little value in making one. The only possible reason I could see for it would be if you were running an app during XP setup that needed .NET to be there already, but I find that hard to believe.

The only app I can think of would be ATI's Catalyst Control Center, but that installs at RunOnce if you're using the DriverPacks.RyanVM wrote:The only possible reason I could see for [making a CAB addon] would be if you were running an app during XP setup that needed .NET to be there already, but I find that hard to believe.

I'm referring to the downloads on the front page of my siteJoffer wrote:You've got a link for that smaller (26MB) version of .dotnet 1.1 and 2.0? The one in the threadstarter is still over 50MB..
And even then, I'm guessing that as long as .NET is installed prior, it won't be an issue. There's still nothing necessitating a direct integration if that's the case.5eraph wrote:The only app I can think of would be ATI's Catalyst Control Center, but that installs at RunOnce if you're using the DriverPacks.RyanVM wrote:The only possible reason I could see for [making a CAB addon] would be if you were running an app during XP setup that needed .NET to be there already, but I find that hard to believe.

What I'm saying is that as far as I'm concerned, the switchless installers are still are the best approach from a disk space perspective

I probably will make a combined .NET installer this week for the two. 2.5MB is 2.5MB
And yes, I'll make it svcpack.inf compatible too.

Sweet, This would be the next best thing besides a direct intigrationRyanVM wrote:I probably will make a combined .NET installer this week for the two. 2.5MB is 2.5MB

and IMHO, the direct intigration addon wouldn't be worth the effort, but if someone had a lot of sparetime it too would be a welcome addon

@RyanVM: If you do end up making the single switchless installer, are you still going to keep the older seperate files or just update the site to include just the single file version?
I'll make both options available

Man, this just ain't my day lol.. I was working on an installer that has .NET 2.0 included in it and I needed to edit a batch file. So I right click the file, and instead of Edit I accidentally hit open. Well it didn't run any of the installers, but it did make a registry change. Didnt think about that until it after I did a reboot which set something off.
Long story short is that I just got done recovering all of my data and now I'm doing a complete reinstall on my laptop (which I use like 90% of the time). Gotta love touch pads.

Let me see if I have this right...
The switchless installers require an unattended installation CD, right?RyanVM wrote:What I'm saying is that as far as I'm concerned, the switchless installers are still are the best approach from a disk space perspective
So far it's not possible to intigrate .NET 1&2 and still have the Repair option still functional at the beginning of the Setup?
I myself create 2 installation CD's. One intigrated with latest update pack and a few others for repairs, and one unattended using the same intigrated source plus winnt.sif. I use nLite on both mostly for the tweaks and making .iso's. But I'm just an end user that likes to tinker so I'm in no position to give advice.
BTW You guys Rock!

svcpack.inf can be executed completely independent of any unattended CD...

SoKoOLz: Thanks for the information! As I noted that it is applicable to .Net Standard vs .Net Compact, it is an applicable update and I'm sure someone will manage to work on it.
a1904107: As I posted HERE the keyword there is "Compact". Read more carefully the differences involved in that keyword, as I believe this is now the _second_ time someone has posted something regarding "Compact" that does not apply. In the spirit of being helpful, that you're pointing it out is a thing to be grateful for and I do applaud the effort, but do check and discover that "Compact" is indeed an entirely different creature please.

You can press F10 on an unattended CD to get to the recovery console. The option is not visible, but hit F10 right at the beginning, when it wants F6 for drivers, and you should get the recovery console.ITinerant wrote:The switchless installers require an unattended installation CD, right?RyanVM wrote:What I'm saying is that as far as I'm concerned, the switchless installers are still are the best approach from a disk space perspective

No new progress with direct integration that I'm aware of. I've retagged the thread to make it clear.
There are other more recent alternatives with switchless installers you should consider. These are ordered by the original poster's activity in their release posts, from most recently posted/edited to least:
