Didn't know if I had the guts to keep posting these updates. You've got so many addons going, like a full time job. ;)

Just so you know it's much appreciated - thank you Peel!

FileZilla v2.2.23 Released - 2006-05-14:

Code: Select all

Version 2.2.23

    New features:

        * Now using Unicode internally. As result, no longer runs on Windows 9x/ME. This should fix every charset conversion issue as long as the server supports UTF8.

    Fixed bugs:

        * Fix critical buffer overflow. Remote code execution might have been possible if connecting to a malicious server.
        * Fix performance issues on systems with more than one CPU.

Mrs Peel: Can you add an uninstall option in Add/Remove for this addon? Considering that they do update this program pretty often.
I was gonna uninstall .22 to put .23 on but....... :(
I was able to just delete your folder with no dire consequences but a newbie may not know that.
I guess you can keep it that way to save you work and just put some kind of notice of how to uninstall it in your first post with directions to remove the actual folder and the Start program shortcut.

Also you may know that there are two options available when doing standard install in a window that pops up called 'General Settings'. They relate to how passwords and settings are stored in relation to whether multiple users are used or not.
Which ones do you have selected in the add-on?

Hiya ton80, the thing is that I am first and foremost a fan of portable applications. 90% of the apps I use on my own PC here are portable ones and cos the addons I make for myself and share here are mostly all portable then they didn't come with uninstallers to begin with.

This FileZilla addon (as with most of my Open Source addons) was made from the standalone zipped version of the app as I downloaded it from SourceForge, so it too did not come with an uninstaller. The beauty of portable apps for me is that they do not require reg entries and can be upgraded very simply by overwriting the existing files in the previous build (which is how I update all mine locally) and this has the added bonus of not deleting your existings settings for that app (which are mostly stored as ini file in apps program directory).

I've considered doing uninstallers for all my addon packs here but I just haven't had the time lately to learn the procedure and it would be a mammoth job to rewrite the 100+ addons I already have released here. Also it is a hard thing to get my head around when I am a person who knows exactly what I like and only slipstreams tried-and-true apps into my own ISO builds.

In a nutshell, I've never had the need for uninstallers myself and since my primary motivation for making all the addons I share is for personal use then it's hard to motivate myself to put on so much extra work for a feature I have no use for personally.

That is not to say I am not considering it - just to say that it would take a lot to overcome my personal lack of motivation to do so. If that makes sense?

Addons that I have pre-configured I make mention of it in the release notes, so to answer you question... none.

One thing that could be done fairly easily would be to add uninstall information to the INFs which could then be used to remove the addon with the Add/Remove Windows Components screen.

the only files you need (in english version anyway)

are..

Filezilla.exe
FileZilla.pdb
FileZilla.xml (optional -remembers previous ftp settings)

i use the standalone zip version

when i 7z this lot it goes right down to 1805kb

edit, just deleted teh pdb, and filezilla.exe seems to work on its own! (including uploading to my site) 486kb in a 7z archive now!

Hi ton80, I just got back from a few months sick leave. I've already got this one on my "To Update" list and will get onto it soon.

Yeh bledd, I use John Haillers portable version of this one now and it's an easy update to just overwrite FileZilla.exe (not xml tho cos that is user settings file). The pdb file is not required ;)

Version 3 is a beta. I don't do betas.

I've been waiting for FileZIlla 3 forever, so rest assured I'll be updating it the moment it goes full final.

Yeh and it's a very buggy Beta too, and still missing many of the features we have been promised for some time in this major new release. I tested it the other day and promptly deleted it again.

I am personally still using this version here for now as I patiently await for full final v3, in case you were wondering
