I fixed it. The problem is in my Argument parser (which I wrote long ago). It needs a rewrite but I'm too lazy to do it right now, so I worked around the problem...

Version 0.26 is now uploaded... ;) Now all command line combinations should work.
RyanVM, could you update your mirror ? Thanks :) .

Thanks for bringing this to my attention.

New version: 0.28 ;)

In this version:

- I have updated the Argument Parser (completely rewritten) so no more silly workarounds are required to add more parameters.
- Added a new function (activated by specifying the /UseStrings switch) which will use variables for unique subkey names (String1, String2, ...and so on).

- It is not yet smart enough to generate combinations like: "%String1%\%String2%\%String3%" but this will be improved in coming versions.

- Download: http://rapidshare.de/files/25070175/Reg ... 8.zip.html
- md5: 4608362010F66EE673791D523BC8D59F

As always, keep the feedback coming ;)

New version: 0.30 Beta...

Link in first post...
Changelog is at: http://siginet.ryanvm.net/forum/viewtopic.php?p=137#137.

- Variable generation is smarter, it now looks for common subkey roots and substitute them with variables (extremely effective when converting a REG file that was exported from a single key).
- Also some performance optimizations (esp. for larger REG files).

As always, I love feedback ;) Please report any issues... :) .

Version: 0.31 now released ;) .

- Fixed a bug that caused Reg2Inf to fail if hex(2) or hex(7) ended with a trailing comma.
- Reg2Inf now automatically removes any trailing commas from hex (binary) too.
(This bug was found by UtCollector - thanks for bringing it to my attention.)

As always, Please report any issues you may encounter :) .

Hi

Tihis is great work n7Epsilon!

But there is a problem with converting german REG files with "ä,ü,ö" in it.
Not hard to edit the INF manually later, but is it possible to fix this?

Hi, thank you for the feedback chris.b @! :)

The problem with Reg2Inf is that it doesn't process Unicode characters (or characters except for English) yet. (Simply because I don't have samples of that kind to work on.)

I would be glad to add support for this, would you mind sending me a ZIP file with sample REG files that demonstrate the problem ? :) .

I have identified the source of the problem, which is the way by which the double-byte character hex values are decoded back to string. I am working on it now to enable support for all languages (I am personally testing with English, Arabic, Chinese, German and Hebrew).

I am fixing it and will post a new release asap...

Beta 0.35 has been released. :)

Many changes in this version, fully supports Unicode characters and properly treats v4 and v5.
I have pounded on this to iron out bugs and problems, but if you find issues, please do not hesitate to post here and report them.

btw, a small warning for this version, please see:
http://siginet.ryanvm.net/forum/viewtopic.php?t=46

Download link(s) are in the 1st post.

Enjoy ;)

Are there any errors in conversion ? .. etc.

Have you tried version 0.35 Beta ?

I got this error msg when trying to intergrate 0.31 with nLite 1.0.1:

Unsupported file:
D:\UNATTENDED\AddOn\Reg2Inf_031.zip

There's no any space in those files/folders

btw, I havent tried the 0.35beta.

the 0.35 beta version also gave me the same unsupported error.
note that i didn't integrate any other add on except it.

Ok, here's the problem.

1. The file I'm posting for download is not an integratable addon, it's a ZIP file containing the source code, the SendTo handler and the compiled executable.

2. Reg2Inf 0.35 ZIP, the same thing, it is not an integratable addon.

I'll make a maintainable addon for it when I get some more time...

I think you can make one with CreatureAddon, all it needs is to copy the Reg2Inf.exe file to the SYSTEM32 folder and the Reg2InfHandler.cmd (inside the ZIP file) in the All Users Send To menu...

Version 0.36 released :) .

- From Mr.Woo's post here: http://www.ryanvm.net/forum/viewtopic.php?t=2855, It appears that hex(b) is REG_QWORD (which I've never seen before)...

Further research here:
http://www.atlguide2000.com/windowsxp/index.php?aid=209 and experimenting makes it clear that Windows treats this similar to REG_BINARY.
I have implemented this, tested and verified it works correctly.

So thanks go to Mr.Woo for this clarification :)

- In the previous version, extremely minor issue corrected where the assembly version was mismarked, this is also fixed now....

Enjoy ;) If you encounter any issues, please post here...

:oops: :oops: @RyanVM, Kels.. Sorry, didn't realize at all ...

@Kels, I don't understand ..
How did you make it silent ? I designed the send to code like this because I was intentional in making reg2inf output to screen when a reg is dropped on it (or it is run with the reg as the 1st parameter) as a way of allowing the output to be easily manipulated by other programs (eg: in a batch file, like piping the output for example or whatever)...

Could you explain more please ?

I compiled the send to code with quick batch file compiler and chose reg2inf.exe to be wrapped in the resulting exe. In doing so now when a reg file is choosen and the sendto->reg2inf is selected you get no popup windows just a inf file in a snap.

But then, in case the file exists, the send to code will ask the user to overwrite or not.

How will it work then?, Also I don't own a licensed copy of Quick Batch File compiler to keep updating it, unless you want to do that, then I would have no problems with that.

(Unless, of course, I move the sendto code into Reg2inf.exe itself, and simplify the sendto code and make reg2inf forcefully make the window re-appear on doing so, but could be a bad idea...)

this actually day one for me in doing INF files, but i don't think xable's links are necessarily true.

in your inf you specify the LayoutFile, which is typically layout.inf
for XP Corp my layout.inf contains the following:

Released version 0.37 with support for more types and small bug fixes ;).

New feature: Reg2Inf will write a comment showing any lines that failed to convert in the output for easier testing in larger REG file conversions.

Thanks to Mr.Woo for his research to unearth the more obscure registry types :).

Gee

Launching the .inf file

Post by Gee » Thu Nov 23, 2006 3:50 am

I am a little confused. How do I execute the .inf file from a command line? I know I can right click and install the file. But that is not ideal for an unattended install CD.

I am not sure which method works. I found this in the files types, it shows the command executed when you install by right clicking.
C:\WINDOWS\System32\rundll32.exe setupapi,InstallHinfSection DefaultInstall 132 %1
It is safe to assume that you replace %1 with your .inf file. But I have also used this in the past.
rundll32.exe advpack.dll,LaunchINFSection {path}\yourinf.inf, DefaultInstall,3
Which is the proper method to use? I plan to add this at cmdlines.txt, so it will be installed at T12. Is there a better method to integrate?

Converting to INF is not the way to use if you want to import at the "cmdlines.txt" stage, instead use regedit.exe /s myregfile.reg or reg import myregfile.reg, since rundll32.exe setupapi,InstallHinfSection DefaultInstall 132 %1 doesn't work during Windows XP setup (it fails silently).

Converting to INF is used primarily for INFs that are integrated by adding themselves to sysoc.inf (like other addons here do), if you want to use that method, you will need to create a entries files (eg: entries_mytweaks.ini) that will tell the integrator to do this for you, look in the addons posted around here (eg: http://www.ryanvm.net/forum/viewtopic.php?t=3031)...

A sample entries_mytweaks.ini that would do this for you would be:
[general]
builddate=23/11/2006
description=Gee Tweaks Addon
language=English (United States)
title=Gee Tweaks
version=1.0

[sysoc]
MyTweaksINF=ocgen.dll,OcEntry,MyTweaks.inf,Hide,7

[dosnet_files]
d1,MyTweaks.inf

[txtsetup_files]
MyTweaks.inf = 1,,,,,,,20,0,0

[i386_compress]
rvmtemp\extracted\MyTweaks.inf
Then put it and the MyTweaks.inf in the same folder and compress with 7-zip or Zip or Rar or Cab and integrate as a hotfix in nLite or using the integrator...

Hi n7Epsilon,

your converter is the best I found so far, but I have al problem when converting REG files in ANSI encoding in 1250 code page (central/east european) - all accented characters are missing in the output INF file. Is it posible to add this support (useful for old systems)?

Regards,

Petr

First off, I like to thank you for the program, it works great. Just I dont know what to do with the INF file after it is created. I am using the RVMUpdatePack to make a cd with all the updates, my programs and like to add some tweaks, and serials for my programs. I took the tweaks and serial numbers from the registry, using regedit, imported the key and made a INF file. Can i just drop it in the RVMUpdatePack, or do I have to do something else with it. I want to add it to my cd that Im building. I used the lite addon program to make addon.cabs for my programs, and going to use the RVM_Integrator to make my cd. I have searched the board for couple days trying to find the answer myself, I might have seen it and not understood it. If anyone could give me a clearer picture on how to do this would be great.

You need to write a entries.ini file (and give it a unique name), see the posts above.

This one: http://www.ryanvm.net/forum/viewtopic.php?p=40187#40187
Read starting from the second paragraph and adapt the Ini file to your needs.

@n7Epsilon: Thanks for the great tool.

I think I may have found a bug with Reg2inf v0.37 (or maybe 'limitation' is the better word).

Code: Select all

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer]
"DesktopProcess"=dword:00000001 ; Launch Windows Desktop in a separate Process
converts to:

Code: Select all

HKCU,"Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer","DesktopProcess",0x00010001,ce,De,01,00
instead of:

Code: Select all

HKCU,"Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer","DesktopProcess",0x00010001,01,00,00,00
It seems that an inline comment ";" causes the value conversion to get corrupted.

Yes inline comments are not currently supported by the parser (cause confusion), however I will improve it to support such scenarios in the next update.

Edit: This has been successfully implemented in dev build.

Thanks for the update n7Epsilon.

I've been using this util since your early releases, it's truly excellent.

Reg2Inf SendTo AddOn/Installer
Note: I edited Reg2InfHandler.cmd to use the /RepVars switch wich will convert C;\Program Files to %16422%, C:\WINDOWS\system32 to %11% etc, etc.
