[Release] WGA-Only KB892130 Addon 1.5.540.0

Post by Aserone » Tue May 16, 2006 4:43 am

Remade to be a slimmed WGA addon after Ryan finally decided to drop the hotfix altogether in his Updatepack. This addon will install *WGA Only* KB892130 w/ the latest LegitCheckControl.dll 1.5.540.0 from KB905474.

WGA-Only KB892130 Addon
LINK: Foxy_WGA-Only_1.5.540_Addon
MD5: AA1C809F5B301255200E49CA1B47F258
SIZE: 329 KB
Language: English

Dll Version: 1.5.540.0

Release Date: 2006-07-20

Op System: XP Only
The addon will install all the necessary KB892130 registry values and register LCC.dll, but I can't guarantee that it will work on Microsoft/Windows update for everyone/forever without the "whole" package. Tested and running just fine for me without Notifications installed.

NOTE: KB905474 will of course show up as a critical update, make sure you hide it or disable AU if you don't want it installed!

Finally if anyone know how to suppress the KB905474 hotfix from showing up in MU/WU unattended, maybe with a modified DataStore.edb file, or "dummy" files and reg, please feel free to post/pm and I will include it (will try to make somesort of dummy update if it's not against board policy or classified as "hacking").

Have fun all!

Edit: 2006-05-17 - RyanVM hosting (Thanks!)
Edit: 2006-05-20 - nLite info updated.
Edit: 2006-06-26 - Updated to work with updatepack 2.0.7
Edit: 2006-06-30 - Updated to 2.0.7a by RyanVM not tested by me. Ryan will supply addons for never packs from now on (thanks!).

Edit: 2006-07-20 - Remade to be a WGA-Only Addon.

I NEED to get input on this from people using it. My workaround should work for everyone, BUT [ExtraFileEdits] doesn't always do as it should!

If someone is wondering why it's written like it is (I promise you for some reason e.g. line one must be there). I will have an explanation up in "Update Pack Discussion" shortly, I need to know about this env/% thing.

To clear up: Forgot to add a finishing | to a line as one can read from the error. Not a Integrator bug.

Well it was a bitch to make with the Integrator v1.2.2 it will be much easier to maintain with the release of v1.2.3.

Also take a look at wiz011's post, it's a personal preference thing if you like to have it as an addon, or repack the *.cab.

Repack it prog: Modified Ryan's pack 2.0.6 without wgatray by wiz011

Have fun!

So...now there's 2 ways to remove it...but does this circumvent the need for it?

Let me get this straight: the second way (repack) is currently the only way to do this with nLite involved, right? In other words nobody seems to have developed an elegant add-on CAB for easy nLite integration...? (There's seems to be no indication of this in those forums, but maybe I've missed it ... I have been working for several days straight with little or no rest, because of so many backlogged projects ... Sorry in advance.)

Good news! I wasn't sure but I just read the "defining entries.ini" thread again and saw: [ExtraFileEdits] It is supported by the integrator and nLite. So you can now use it in nLite as well! (I felt kindof sure nLite didn't support it, must have been a long time ago..)

nLite might not suffer from the same bug that the Integrator does, I will check it now and hopefully release a nLite only Addon wich will not contain the "fix". Seriously thou I never ever uses nLite personally. Thank you Siginet for all your hard work on the "Integrator"!

BUT nLite WILL work with this current version too! (maybe better than "Integrator" for now)

If you mean that wiz011 version circumverts the need for this addon? Well maybe so. As I said it's a personal preference. But I'm eagerly avating v1.2.3 wich will be much more powerful, and make this addon really easy and clean!

And i've decided to keep this addon, and update it forever(that's a long time ;)), I can't take responsibility if wiz were to go missing, I will still be here to offer this.

To sum it up, for now this addon is for nLite and Integrator AFTER patching with UpPack2.0.6. Wiz011 is for repacking, but i've made a suggestion in his thread wich would make it work on a patched system too. Just have to see if he will implement it.

But for now I don't see any reason for withdrawing a 1kb addon? ;)

Have fun!

Perhaps not. The used update program is 100% sure in an exact enviroment (the exact number of files, sizes etc). I cannot be 100% sure about behavior of this program in different enviroments. It should also work fine in such cases, but I'm not 100% sure. "If it's not broken, don't fix it!" ;)
Aserone wrote:But for now I don't see any reason for withdrawing a 1kb addon? ;)
Personally, I think that addon is the better way. :)

Just so you know I really don't like people who just registers when there is something to complain about, and a "please" or "thank you" would have been nice. This is a one time thing, next time you have to wait for it to be uploaded to Ryan hosting.

Here you go: DELETED by Aserone @ megaupload.com

Anyway, hope it helps!

I don't know for sure what advanced features nLite actually supports. I know nuhi generally doesn't add support for a section unless people request it.

How to use: Should work just fine with nLite! But only tested with the "Integrator" for now.

Hi Aserone, I'm a bit confused...
When I tried it with RyanVM Integrator 1.2.2, I integrated update and addons all at the same time to a fresh sp2 integrated source. The notification wasn't there when I tested it.
Now, I tried with nlite rc8, Update + Addons all at once as hotfixes, after installation the notification was still there.
The confusion is, obviously Integrator works when used at the same time (same integrating session), but when used with nlite, do I need to integrate update 2.0.6 with integrator first, THEN use the wga notity replacement addon along with rest of my addons in nlite?

P.S Thank you for the great addon!

Or you could ask nuhi to support the necessary entries.ini sections so that nLite does support the removal addons. His policy has always been that he'll support them if enough people ask him to.

I wrote a long explanation but this *tragic computer* just thought it would be real funny to log me out, and everything got lost.

Long story short, i'm not home right now, but will be tomorrow.

I have a couple of ideas/ways to make it work with nLite (won't retype), will try them out tomorrow and hopefully release it.

For now use the Integrator or repack with wiz011's prog.

Have fun!

You mean a tweak like which will remove the WGA? Do you think it could be done, fi the answer is yes I will write to him requesting such feature should be added in his program.

No it's impossible with the current nLite supported sections. My optimism were because of this in Defining Entries.ini:
Siginet wrote:The [ExtraFileEdits] section of the entries.ini file. It is supported by the integrator and NLite. So you can now use it in NLite as well. What it does is allow you to edit things that normally would not be possible to edit.
But nLite have _very_ limited support for [ExtraFileEdits] as of RC8, which means that it's possible to add values but not edit or delete them.

So to say that nLite supports this section is not exactely true, and the info in that thread should be more precise maybe.

One thing you and everyone else who want to have this ability in nLite could do is to both request full implementation of [ExtraFileEdits] and/or that nLite adds a option to remove it from the "remove" section.

PS. This has been true in my testings with the main rvm inf file. It may or may not edit other more "used" files correctly, (hive***.inf, svcpack.in_, sysoc.in_ etc..) not tested by me.

edit: will check how it responds to "rvmtemp" -- nope

For nLite users: the only easy compromise I've found for now is using FoxyZacam_Hacked_SYSSETUP_Addon_OOBE_VerSkip.cab (with SFC ENABLED in nLite), and using the OEM folders method to deposit the desired dll in system32. Not a wink of a problem thus far.

Or do what I did, remove the files from the 206 update, re cab it, use normally.

@nowinscenario, what does FoxyZacam_Hacked_SYSSETUP_Addon_OOBE_VerSkip.cab, which has syssetup.dll
in it have to do with "Replace WGA-Notify with WGA-Only Addon", nothing in my book, the're unrelated.
KB905474/WGA Tray, will not be removed with a syssetup.dll hack.

Yeah it is, but now I haven't updated to the latest LegitCheckControl.dll 1.5.532 here yet, and that version only comes with KB905474(notify). So if you're legit I guess you'll have to install the notification to use micro$oft/windos update after setup (i'm only running the latest Notify myself at the moment so I don't know..).

I've already made the updated removal addon (1.5.532), regs etc. but the vast majority that uses this seem to not care about that file.

Wonder why? ;)

Anyway a new Ryan pack will most likely come soon (~week) and then I'll update this one (and still keep it ~1kb).

@ron2024

What that has to do with it is in fact nothing, because I'm an idiot and you are not. ;)

Left out FYI: I've been using the above said strategy coextensively with the repacked 2.06 method of dealing with WGA annoyances...

Perhaps I need to stop the practice of reading/writing several different posts simultaneously. Perhaps I need more sleep. Perhaps both.

Should I be concerned about the ExtraFileEdits bug here? I mean all I want to do is simply use the Integrator and use this addon, not edit any variables or whatever. Am I alright there?
