marzsyndrome wrote:Should I be concerned about the ExtraFileEdits bug here? I mean all I want to do is simply use the Integrator and use this addon, not edit any variables or whatever. Am I alright there?
Yah ok, RVMUpPck.inf contains a couple of "%SystemRoot%" (eight to be precise). When the Integrator edits the file these would be set to your "current" SystemRoot making a potential problem later when installing (this is true for many remove addons released as of now).

This addon will simply replace %SystemRoot% with two strings %SYSD2%%SYSD%%SYSD2% where SYSD = "SystemRoot" and SYSD2 = "%" (of cource can't set e.g. SYSD = "%SystemRoot%", it will get converted ;) ), a simpler solution would be to make them %10% but this will get converted during install and not mimic Ryans original inf exactly.

So when processing the updated RVMUpPck.inf during setup it reads %SYSD2%%SYSD%%SYSD2% as %SystemRoot% so it's absolutely no difference! No worries.

Hope this explains it, and there is one more related bug with double "%%" just to explain why it's written as it is.

Cheers for that! Hmmm, wonder whether the new Integrator fixes this then as hinted originally?

I'm pretty sure that bug isn't relevant with Integrator 1.3.

Is this still safe to use with 2.0.7a? After spotting someone commenting on wiz011's patch not working with it, I thought I'd ask for clarification.

Yes so I wonder too
mayb u could give us some insight in the coding of your files, so that we can make future addons ourselves, for personal use or something alike :)

Just so you guys know, I'll be making WGA a seperate addon for Update Pack 2.1.0. That should make everybody happy.

This must be the greatest news so far. :D

But we want a release without KB905474 so badly right now. 8)

Good to hear Ryan, and no this isn't updated to support 2.0.7a yet. Might do it but 1.3 is so much fun so I must have some time to play with it.

So little time..

Correct

This should do the trick (but I'll warn you that I haven't tested it at all).

(BTW Aserone, that INI was a bit of a pain to decode. Can I recommend making things a bit more easy to follow in your future releases?)

lol, I make all my addons as plain to read as possible. ;)

But what I did was to pack all the new entries directly after the first removed line, I think thats what your refering to. ;) Might release commented in the future, I always do that myself then remove it before release.

Anyway thanks for updating it, haven't looked but will update first post.

Yeah, the whole shifting up was a pain to follow at first. I would have just deleted the one extra line at the beginning to keep things in sync. Also trying to follow the commented out lines was a pain.

Just some helpful suggestions for the future :)

Also, my addon is still going to be Notifications, so you'll still have some business if you want it (or Kel's addon will make a comeback)

Hehe, the commented lines were "possible" shifting lines, but as it existed a bit down decided to not do it. Guess you already figured that out. ;)

Yeah but I must say I really thought I did provide it easy to read, thanks for the advise will think about it in the future..

Have used Kels wga a long time ago, but if there is any reason for providing some sort of LegitCheckControl only addon I might.

But I don't think so as to who I think really do use this remove addon anyway. ;)

Yeah, something tells me the main people who want it removed from my pack will take care of replacing it with their own versions :P. And as I've said before, I really don't care if they do :).

I don't quite understand this part? Are you saying your "remove wga" addon in this thread still keeps the Notifications/WGATray???? :?

No, I'm saying that the WGA Addon I start making next month to go along with Update Pack 2.1.0 will contain Notifications. Don't be so paranoid, you'll live longer ;)

That's the same thing as is in 2.0.7a. But if you're going to modify it with other DLLs, yes, you'd integrate it at the same time as the Update Pack (or you could just replace the files in i386 after the fact and not bother with an addon).

ah, so the entries aren't being removed from txtsetup.sif then. Duh, silly me. I'm really not sure why that isn't working, though, since the relevant info is in the INI file. As a temporary workaround, you can just skip that file and any other WGA files it might complain about.

Has anybody else had this problem?

Try turning off any firewalls you're running. Somehow your computer is blocking the sending of referrers.

I had exactly the same problem, but as Ryan says, if you just skip past these 2 files the install continues fine and the addon works as advertised.

I guess with this info in mind people could simply manually modify txtsetup.sif afterwards and remove the entries themselves if they still exist afterwards....

Or even better, you can use this: RVM207a_WGANotify_RemoveAddon_v2.cab which removes file listings from dosnet.inf and txtsetup.sif. nJoy. :)
