vier,
you've been busy! Thank you very much for these removal addons.
Just a quick note; your post seems to be pasted twice (I think).
Could you please also provide the proper MD5 Hash for Windows FireWall (it's the same MD5 Hash as Help right now).
Thanking you in advance.
Now, I'm going to be busy trying out all these new addons... err, removals... err I mean suppressors.
BTW, thanks also for the new version of CreateurAddon (too many toys!!!).
Cheers,
FlyingGleek

I found the solution to the Tour Balloon. I found a REGEDIT that disabled it.
It can be merged into the Addon's INF file with the following:

HKLM,"%Tour%","RunCount",0x10001,0
HKCU,"%Tour%","RunCount",0x10001,0

Hi everybody
I just hit on this thread. Many Thanks to vier for this.
How is this removal addons compared to the ones in the KTT thread?
I am not finding much user feedback here.
Proximus: Is your suggested change (regedit) for Tour balloon remove working good? How is your reg-edit method compared to the one suggested by ENU_user in the other thread ? : Remove Unneeded Windows Components-KTT

No it means it creates the Restore addons for you. You should move those addons somewhere else on your hard drive before you make your disk.
I have been thinking about making some sort of variable that can be used in the integrator so that things like this can be saved to the integratores directory and not someplace on your disk.

ENU_user's solution looks the same to me. There's more then one way to modify the registry. I had a tourballoon.reg file that I converted to a tourballoon.inf file for my approach. I personally understand that method better. The hive change seems the same. I don't know if there is any meaningful difference between the two methods, perhaps someone else can comment?Bhishmar wrote:Hi everybody

It does seem there are quite a bit of different threads doing almost the same thing in different ways.

I am totally LOST here. Let me define some simple terminology (a), (b), (c) here.Siginet wrote:No it means it creates the Restore addons for you. You should move those addons somewhere else on your hard drive before you make your disk.
As I understand, the terminology "Addon" is used for addon-packs which is meant to be integrated along with Windows-XP-Setup-CD(source) (a), to generate a modified Setup-CD (source) (b). The Addon is never meant to be integrated to an already installed Windows in a machine (c).
So the Resoration-Addons created by Viers-Removal addons, (in hard disk as u say) is meant for operating on WHAT?

I assumed it is implied for (c), which seemed meaningless with Addon Terminology. If it is for (b), then also it is meaningless, because you could as well generate another (c) or (c') directly from (a) itself with simply NOT including Viers-Removal Addon in the first place.
Am I missing something here? Can somebody ENLIGTHEN me?

I am getting an error on the Windows Messenger Remove Addon, on the RVM Integrator log: - "No mmssetup.cab Found. Skipping Messenger".
This is immediately after "Entire .ini Processing Completed" & before "Moving Files"
It is intriguing- The file is there in the original source, and I have no other addon which refers to this file mmssetup.cab( I had a search). But this file is removed from the final source, after integration is over.
Anyone else face the same error?

Thanks vier for your reply.vier wrote:You make it in same time that an UpdatePack ?
All addon are tested and works, but it's works after integration (or without) UpdatePack
Yes, I was integrating it along with the (simultaneously with) UpdatePack and other addons. I was doing this since somewhere in this forum i read that for RVM_integrator ver > 1.4, it permits simultaneous integration.
Are you confirming that it cannot be done so, & must be done in separate sessions?
@proximous: For Tour baloon delete you were suggesting some additional registry changes, to be done thru inf file. Can somebody confirm if the "TourDel.inf" file I have created is CORRECT?
Code: Select all
;Tour Baloon Del-v1.2
[Version]
Signature=$Windows NT$
[Optional Components]
TourBaloon
[TourBaloon]
OptionDesc = "Tour Baloon Del Addon"
Tip = "Tour Baloon"
Modes = 0,1,2,3
AddReg = TourBaloon.AddReg
[TourBaloon.AddReg]
HKLM,"%Tour%","RunCount",0x10001,0
HKCU,"%Tour%","RunCount",0x10001,0
[Strings]
Tour="Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Applets\Tour"
Code: Select all
[dosnet_files]
d1,TourDel.inf
[txtsetup_files]
TourDel.inf = 1,,,,,,,20,0,0
Pls some expert clarify?
regards [/color]
Your INF is correct for Tour bypass, Bhishmar, but the HKLM registry entry doesn't seem to be needed for it to work.
Your Entries_tour.ini needs a little work, though. This is what you should have:

[sysoc]
TourBaloon=ocgen.dll,OcEntry,TourDel.inf,HIDE,7

[i386_compress]
rvmtemp\extracted\TourDel.inf
Thanks 5eraph for your help.
To clarify:
1. The HKLM entry can be removed. BUT the HKCU entry must be there!
2. The [txtsetup_files] entry for TourDel.inf must be corrected from 1 to 100.
3. Now since you have introduced an [i386_compress] section in the ini, Do I have to include the TourDel.inf in uncompressed way OR Compressed as (TourDel.in_) ?
4. Also is the [sysoc] section MANDATORY even when i am not adding any exe/dll files to the setup-source? or it is only optional?

Thanks very much 5eraph for your help, I could make it work.5eraph wrote:@Bhishmar:
3. Uncompressed. The Integrator or nLite will compress it for you.
Btw I am curious with the point-3. I think your understanding may be wrong there. Even though I have not read anything specifically, my observations based on testing is this:-
a. It works both ways, whether you place the inf file compressed or uncompressed, within the Addon.
b. RVM Integrator do not compress an uncompressed inf file, when it places it into the source-build. An example in point is "R_Addons.inf" from RVMAddons_1.8. I do not know about Nlite. ((EDIT: Retract this statement, since found to be incorrect later))
c. So I guess (surmise) compressing an inf file is better (optimum) from space saving point of view in the CD. But I think this is of benefit only when the inf file size is very large.
Can some experts here can comment whether this is the way it is intended or designed?

Thanks& regards

The [i386_compress] section is intended to tell the Integrator or nLite to compress the files specified within it. Defining Entries.ini may not currently include this section, but you can find a good example of it in entries_addons.ini within RVMAddons_1.8.0.7z:
@Siginet: That sticky could use a considerable amount of updating. The release of v1.4.2 makes that post at least 3 months out of date.
At the risk of sounding too much like an expert, I'll shut up now.
Code: Select all
;This section contains a list of files in i386 which should be compressed at the very beginning of the integration process
[i386_compress]

At the risk of sounding too much like an expert, I'll shut up now.

I am confused now. 5eraph, As you pointed out the entries_addons.ini file within RVMAddons_1.8.0.7z has the entry "rvmtemp\extracted\R_Addons.inf" within its [i386_compress] section.5eraph wrote:The [i386_compress] section is intended to tell the Integrator or nLite to compress the files specified within it.
But I am finding that the integrator has not compressed R_Addons.inf, in the build-source. When I see within the i386 folder of my iso, i can see the file:"R_Addons.inf" as such. NOT compressed.((EDIT: Retract this, since found to be incorrect later))
Can u tell me what I am missing in my understanding!!

Hmmm... that would be an issue we'll need to keep an eye on. I just tested and my R_Addons.inf is compressed to R_Addons.in_.Bhishmar wrote:I am confused now.

Can you post a log file from your history folder of the integration that failed to compress that file?

I did not realize this as an error till your post. So I went back & reviewed my earlier iso's. In these iso's this was ok, meaning the R_Addons.inf is compressed to R_Addons.in_ in these builds.
Then i realized i made some customizations on the "R_Addons.inf" file, for changing the Shortcut placement locations for TweakUI, in my latest build. This must have messed up the file. Sorry, my mistake.
Even though i could not locate the errors. I will get back after some more tests.
Meantime are you putting any checksum checks to avoid modifications of the inf?
EDIT:On second thoughts. I only modified R_Addons.inf, and recompressed the total addon into a rar instead of 7z, which are essentially the changes. As I understand, the RVMintegrator, has nothing to do with the contents of the inf file. So even if I make an error (in inf), it will only (supposed to) screw up the install. The source build must not be affected!! Any ideas?

FYI - some add-ons cause small issues
In my testing of creating images for deployment, I have come accross a couple things I learned and would like to share my findings.
I deploy WINXP PRO for a 5000 + user company with RIS and SYSPREP CD's.
I love the add-ons and RYANVM for this as I can deploy smaller packages and cut huge amounts of time and bandwidth off.
In my Image building I ran across a couple things I would like to share.
1) CXP_AddOnSuppress_netoc.cab - Network Optionnal Components
This removal fromthe image will prevent SUS or WSUS or Windows update from working. It kills the "bits2.0" download service.
2) CXP_AddOnSuppress_sr.cab - Restauration System
This one (while it saved me 145 MB in final image size by using) it killed the ability to install software that registers itself properly with the OS by trying to make a restore point. For most software this is no issue, but for me I could no longer install Adobe Creator 6.0
3) CXP_AddOnSuppress_tsoc.cab - Wizard Desktop Connetcion
I found that this one will make Microsoft Desktop Search uninstallable
Again, this is not a list of gripes. Just some things to be aware of if you are going to use these Add/Remove add-ons

Are these removal packs compatible with SP3?
