[Release] Nirsoft Collection - 40/46 utils 1.1

Post by Aserone » Fri Jul 21, 2006 4:09 am

I love Nirsoft utilities, so I thought I make an AIO for myself, but maybe someone else would find this useful. They are so small and give valueble information so I got a little crazy.. but if you still miss some utility you wish were included say so (not many to request left now ;))!

The "normal" addon includes 40 Nirsoft utilities and the "large" 46, removed duplicated readme.txt files if *.chm help existed. They contain exactly the same info anyway. If there wasn't a *.chm file the readme.txt was renamed to the utility name.

Both are 8.3-compliant, but only the large version is uninstallable (might change).

I've asked Kel for permission prior to releasing.
Using Mrs Peel's excellent layout with her permission (thanks!).

Have fun all!

Note: 2006/07/xx - When I think about it, the name is stupidly similar to Kels addon. Might do something about it.
Note: 2006/07/xx - Please if you don't like the coloring, or have another suggestion for readability, I want to know!

Edit: 2006/07/26 - RyanVM hosting (thanks!)
Edit: 2006/07/26 - Released LARGE Collection with 8 additional utilities as req by Bazza.
Edit: 2006/08/14 - Updated NORMAL to v1.1
Edit: 2006/08/14 - Updated LARGE to v1.1
Edit: 2006/08/14 - For the sake of readability every utility are separated and links have been added.

Tell me what other utils you use and I might consider adding them too!

Also explorestart.exe is added to %windir%\system32 it still has a shortcut where the other ones are, but if everything f*cks up it's easy to run it as a "New Task" from "Task Manager" possibly saving the session (not going the "app path" way here).

Another possibility for me is to make a "cpl" file for "wul.exe" like in Kels "CPL Addon", someone interested?

Finally I think I will change the name of the addon to:

Nirsoft Collection - 38 utils v1.x

If noone has any problem with the nameing, I'll leave it alone.. ;)

FastResolver
FavoritesView

NetResView
SniffPass
WhoisThisDomian

I also install WinMessControl on those PC's that still have it installed (normally I remove from the XP CD).

Cheers & many thanks

Conflict, well yeah to some degree, he uses Nirsoft.inf as the main uninstall file for the utilities and I use it to install. Some files are ofcource going to overwrite eachother. Will probably change the name of the inf/cab in the future.

It would probably work if you integrate this addon after the Uberpack, but I can't guarantee that.. :?

@Bazza: Will put up an even bigger one too then.. ;)

It's up now.. is there any utils left to add now? ;)

Released LARGE:

WinUpdatesList is now copied and linked to %SystemRoot%\System32 so it's more compatible with Kels CPL addons. And the addon is completely uninstallable.

Additional utils:

Code: Select all

FastResolver (v1.00)
FavoritesView (v1.00)
FoldersReport (v1.21)
IPNetInfo (v1.09)
NetResView (v1.00)
SniffPass (v1.00)
WhoisThisDomain (v1.07)
WinMessControl (v1.00)
RyanVM hosting for NORMAL addon (thanks!), I can't reach it myself thou but it should be up on Ryans share..

Have fun!

Aserone,

Fantastic.

There are about 55 or so Nirsoft utilities, however, you have included all of the NirSoft utils I use regularly.

The only other ones I use occasionally are the password utils, however, it would be best, I think, if you didn't include those since a number of AV & Anti-Spyware apps mark them as "threats".

So, nope there are no more utils to add.

Once again thankyou VERY muchly.

Changes in NORMAL v1.1:
  • Added NetResView v1.00 from LARGE.
  • Added FoldersReport v1.21 from LARGE.
  • Updated ActiveXHelper from v1.10 to v1.11
  • Updated IEHistoryView from v1.32 to v1.33
  • Updated OpenFilesView from v1.01 to v1.02
  • Updated ShellExView from v1.14 to v1.15
Changes in LARGE v1.1:
  • Same updates as in NORMAL above, and:
  • Updated WhoisThisDomain from v1.07 to v1.08

With this many utilities some will get updated ever so often. I will try to keep up with it without releasing a new version every day for convenience.. ;)

Have fun!

Large updated

Post by ton80 » Thu Feb 22, 2007 11:40 am

Alright seems Aserone hasn't been around for a long while now. I discovered today that many programs that he included in the Large and Normal add-ons have been updated since their release as indicated in the first post.

A list of updated as of today's listing:
CurrPorts v1.11
IEHistoryView v1.34
NetResView v1.10
RegScanner v1.40
ServiWin v1.30
ShellExView v1.16
SmartSniff v1.30
SniffPass v1.01
WinUpdatesList v1.13
WhoisThisDomain v1.12

Links to individual programs still active in first post.
Since this was also going on my install disc, I changed nothing else other then the respective chms and exes (matching Aserone's 8.3 file naming) from the zipped versions on those respective pages, nothing else. The ini and inf inside the Large add-on cab are untouched.

To the mods I can take over this Large one but the Normal one needs inf adjustment; but it's up to you all as a vote or however you all do this.

EDIT: see my last post here for latest version.

I think 'ton80' has simply made changes to v1.1 to reflect the updates since 'avneet25' last worked on the addon. In short the answer to your question is, download and just use v1.2

That's up to the Mods. Plus I'd have to copy Aserone's work on inf and ini since I can't create like that. So this is the best compromise.

I really love Nir tools, and this addon. My one minor complaint is the shortcut descriptions. Some are redundant, convoluted, have weird grammar, typos, odd English usage, and others are just really long.

Example:

Code: Select all

Original:
InfoTip = "Allows you to automatically download an image file in every few seconds or minutes (according to your selection), and save it to your local drive"

Cleaned:
InfoTip = "Periodically downloads an image and saves it to a local drive"
I dunno, for me, the first is just way too damn much to read. These utilities are simple tools that perform simple tasks. IMO, the descriptions should be just as simple.

I cleaned up all the entries, but kept them descriptive, just easier to read. It should cut each link's infotip popup by more than half. Handy if you're slowly scrolling though the list and huge popups keeps obscuring things.

If anyone wants a copy, let me know and I'll upload it somewhere.

I realize that I'm probably the only person in the world who actually cares about the readability or size of tooltips. But... just thought I'd ask. :)

IMHO, I'd say use your adjusted copy for your own personal use and not share in here due to you adjusting the .inf file which I'm not touching. That is Aserone's creation.
We can't stop you from sharing it through other means but I'd say don't post a direct link here in forum. Also saves any newbie confusion.

True, any knowledgeable person can whip up their own inf file but this is/was ('was' which I now think is correct, :( ) one of his creations. I'm just updating the actual .exes and .chms.

But I'm not a MOD so they should chime in on this with their own thoughts through PM, if possible.

My mistake. I thought those descriptions were copied from the descriptions on Nirsoft.net, and thus weren't an original part of the INF. Don't worry, I won't post it anywhere. I don't want to give even the impression of stealing someone else's work, especially someone who's not here to voice an opinion on the subject.

Since that post, I'd decided any release would just be a list of the alternate descriptions I made, not a modified INF. It'd allow people to selectively use them, and would save the newbie confusion, as you also said. :)

You mentioned this "was" one of Aserone's addons. I saw he's not posted in over 8 months. Ordinarily, I'd assume that meant the person just left the forum, but I've seen his profile before, and noticed your comment about not touching the INF, so I regretfully must ask, did something happen to him?

I was re-reading some of his postings yesterday and all seemed ok and good then all of a sudden he just disappeared. Usually if one leaves for reasons un-related to a forum, one usually sees stuff posted along those lines and if a bad forum discussion (huffy-puffy and leave) one sees that too. Not with Aserone though. I don't know what else to think. I'll leave it at that.

I guess that will work. :)

To all: I'll recheck these tools early this coming Wednesday morning on my nights off for Patch Tuesday rush.

Version 1.20:

* Added support for filters.
* The settings of CurrPorts utility is now saved to cfg file instead of using the Registry.
* New command-line options.
* You can now send the information to stdout by specifying an empty filename ("") in the command-line.
* Added support for x64.
OpenedFilesView 1.03
Version 1.03 - Improved file closing under Vista.
SeqDownload 1.20
Version 1.20:

* Fixed the crash problems under Windows XP and Vista.
* Added support for FTP.
* A tooltip is displayed when a string in a column is longer than the column length.
* New option: Save Only On Exit. Turn on this option if you have a lots of download items and SeqDownload works too slowly.

So now updated.

EDIT: see my last post here for latest version.

ton80: I realize you said previously you aren't touching the INF on this, but when this is updated next, would you consider adding a DefaultInstall section? You'd only be copying everything in the existing [Nirsoft] section, so that doesn't alter any of Aserone's original content, per se. It just makes it able to be tested via the context menu without everyone having to edit it individually.

Done. Nothing else was needing any updating. Hope it works.

OpenedFilesView 1.04
Version 1.04 - A small fix in NirSoftOpenedFilesDriver.sys to avoid crashes when a memory address of kernel object is invalid.

For Nirsoft fans:
peruse this page http://www.nirsoft.net/utils/index.html. other than the password tools!!! which is NO!, at least not yet; what other utilities would you all like to see included in the Large addon?

any more of the the command line "Whois*" utilities?

Also please don't suggest anything that has dependancies on other stuff needed like
http://www.nirsoft.net/utils/asterie.html for example. I want this to be bug-free for newbies like me ;) .

Hey, ton80, looks like you've taken this thing over... so, why don't you post a new thread? I mean, it's yours now. Aserone hasn't posted here in over a year.

Just a thought.

All right, per RyanVM. This thread is now obsolete. See http://www.ryanvm.net/forum/viewtopic.php?t=4807

for future updates.
