[Request] XBCD (X-Box controller) driver

Post by marzsyndrome » Tue Aug 08, 2006 6:56 pm

Is there any ideal way to integrate this, as a driver perhaps? I could try the WINNT.SIF approach, but it's in an installable exe, and I don't know if it would clash with the BTS Driverpacks in any way.

I appreciate any advice, cheers! :)

I did include it in the 3rd Party Misc. DriverPack in February, but haven't gotten around to updating it for the new DPs BASE. There's also a newer version of the driver from Microsoft Update that I haven't applied yet.

EDIT: I've never used a custom driver like the one you linked to. The controller I bought came with a Windows driver CD which is mostly useless except for the INF and two SYS files (and the CAT, of course).

Hmmm, I didn't know that Microsoft released an official driver! Having looked up on it it seems they do offer an "XBox 360 Controller for Windows" for download from their site. Thing is though, I only have an XBox 1 pad, not a 360 one, so I don't know if this thing is compatible with XBox 1 stuff. Has anyone tried to test it before?

XBCD I found out more about today after trying to use a XBox-to-PC USB adaptor I ordered off eBay a while back and noticing the floppy disk it provided included XBCD drivers (albeit not up-to-date). Apparently though XBCD has had to be hacked in order to try and support the 360 pads.

I was assuming you meant the 360 controller. My bad. :)

You should be able to install the xbox controller to your system with your exe. Then use my DriverGrabber.exe tool (ricktendo64 posted previously) to grab the driver files for you. Then either make your own driverpack... or some other method to integrate the driver into your install disk. ;)

I tried using DriverGrabber after installing the driver, but it didn't grab it among the other drivers.

I then tried Driver Genius Pro and selected the XBCD driver, except it only backed up the inf and not any of the other files.

Having extracted the setup exe with UniExtract, I see it's build rather special-like, and comparing the inf to the last cabbed version (0.55) shows lots of differences between them. Darn.

Maybe it's simpler for me to just silently install the exe during cmdlines...

You do have the controller connected to the computer when you are trying to grab the files right? Because if it isn't being used then the drivers aren't active and they won't be grabbed. If that doesn't work then the driver must be pretty unique and I am sorry... I don't know anything else you can try besides a silent installer. :(

The official driver as far as I know does not give you all the functionality of the redcloud driver.
