Oron123 is correct. KB959199 replaces KB945381.

No problems slipstreaming KB952069 into XP x64 SP2, boooggy. There must be something specific to the x86 update package(s) for that KB that the Slipstreamer doesn't like. No problems with the new update (KB959199) in x64 either.

Well Guys... despite me knowing that my skills pale in comparison to yours I couldn't help but continue to try and see if I could figure out a solution to these last few items that I find somewhat annoying yet stubborn to customize:

1) The Desktop Shortcut of WMP11
2) The Quick launch Shortcut of WMP11
3) The Start Menu WMP11 link
4) The WMP11 Media Search Value of 1024
5) The Start Menu creation of IE7 (not related to WMP11 but I used the same fix)

Basically as you would expect I tried integrating all the standard reg setting changes via numerous methods but none really seemed to work and I also tried some basic move commands and they didn't work... so I decided to deal with this is a rather "forced and cumbersome" way.

1) I used runonceex to rename wmp.inf and copy a modified version
---this took care of items 1, and 2 but despite changing the inf section for item 4 the change did not work

2) I decided to add a simple COPY command to my cleanup file which copies a "self deleting VBS script" to the default user startup folder. The VBS script calls a CMD script located on the root drive which moves the damn links for any user that logons - AFTER the first Admin logon

This only runs once per user and then deletes itself and if I want to add any other stubborn items to the "called" script I can do so pretty easily.

That took care of items 3 and 5 and then for the final item 4 I added a reg setting to my main HKCU.reg which I add via cmdlines.txt

I know this is probably a wacky and inefficient way of doing this but I couldn't figure anything else out and this seems to work. Also since I don't write any VBS and my bat script skills are basic so I had to use other peoples work to integrate my solution.

This is pretty much the exact method I've been working on myself. Gotta give you props for taking the initiative and getting it done.

There's a group policy setting that stops WMP from creating icons on the desktop and QL.
My addons: CmdOpen - HashCheck - Notepad2 - MS Runtimes - DirectX

Into the breach, meatbags!

Thanks for pointing this out...I never realized that before but I now see the options so my question would be how to take advantage of this during the initial install to set these options unattended

I use the following in an inf file that I integrate:

Code: Select all

;Disable WMP Shortcuts
HKLM,"SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\WindowsMediaPlayer","DesktopShortcut",0x0,"no"

HKLM,"SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\WindowsMediaPlayer","QuickLaunchShortcut",0x0,"no"

HKLM,"SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Active Setup\Installed Components\{6BF52A52-394A-11d3-B153-00C04F79FAA6}","StubPath",0x0,""

;Disable IE Shortcuts
HKLM,"Software\Microsoft\Active Setup\Installed Components\>{26923b43-4d38-484f-9b9e-de460746276c}","IsInstalled",0x0
I haven't noticed any ill effects, but I will say I use Firefox and MediaMonkey more than IE or WMP, so perhaps I'm not noticing something.

I make all of my tweaks here (I edited out some off-topic tweaks). This way, I'm not modifying other people's addons (then I don't have to remember my tweaks to their addons when they update them). This is more than you need, but I included what I thought might be of interest (specifically my method for recreating the shortcuts where I want them, mostly conforming the RougeSpear's menu organization...the IE shortcuts are directly from his older Standard Installer Pack).

WOW... very nice and THANKS... it's amazing how many different ways their are of gettting to the same result... some much "cleaner" than others though. I do most of what your doing already but I need to experiment some with your method since I could reduce many of the additional scripts and REG files I currently have plus keep things more orderly in one area.

Boooggy as always Thanks very much... I do have a question:

I noticed the following on your site:
In order to accommodate for users of different languages of Windows, the slipstreamer no longer contains KB908536 or KB894871 to allow each user to integrate their own language-specific versions of these fixes
Does that mean we should add those individual hotfixes(in my case English) to the slipstreamer from this point forward?

Not sure how the heck I missed that statement must have been having some tunnel vision :-) but this leads me to further questions:

I checked Ryan's, Onepiece and redxii packs and none of them contain KB908536 or KB894871... according to the above instructions am I correct that they can't be integrated until an update pack includes them?

I am using redxii pack which includes KB952069 yet it still shows in the MSU so do I need to add that into the slipstreamer?

They may contain fixes that supercede it. If you really want to make sure, make a copy of your source after integrating the update pack in question and run the slipstreamer manually.

It will popup a message if it detects that the fixes are needed on that source.

These fixes are part of SP3 so they are not needed on any XP SP3 source.

Red's pack has KB952069 for WMP9, so if you integrate WMP11 you must integrate the WMP11 version yourself. KB908536 and KB894871 only apply to SP2, so no, they're not in any post SP3 update pack. ;)

If you integrate redxii's pack and then run the slipstreamer and pass the wmp11 version of that hotfix with the hotfixes, it will handle overwriting the files affected in question correctly.

However there maybe some extraneous entries left in the registry that reference the WMP9 version of the fix. In spite of that, it seems that for WMP11 fixes, WU/MU checks the actual file version and doesn't pay attention to the registry, so it shouldn't show up on MU/WU.

I haven't personally tested that scenario though.

it doesnt matter what update pack u use. those 2 fixes are already included in sp3 so they are not needed.
as for registry entries for KB952069 wmp9 version they dont count...actually they are ompletelly useless. when u integrate wmp11 u also need to integrate KB952069 for wmp11. so if u do this that fix wont show up on mU/wU.

you can get them here.

and if you use Ryan's post-sp2 updatepack, there's no need for you to worry about it.

From what it looks like, you got an error because of another process blocking access to the file. Typically, this is antivirus or a disk optimization utility. You should disable any security software that might interfere with the integration *first*.

Please note: Use of Comodo Antivirus & Defense+ can still cause problems even if disabled from the interface. Defense+ may need to be completely disabled (requires reboot) to prevent integration issues.

Thanks for the info crashfly. I'll try that later. I did try and exit AGV for the first time ever before integration. I'll knobble the firewall as well and see how I get on.

...must be dim, can't see how to edit my own earlier message.

Without the firewall (comodo 2.4) and having right clicked to exit AGV, same steps as before successful integration.

boooggy, thanks for following up. I have AGV free 8.0.233 with up to date virus db which is now 270.10.19/1938

note disc failed to install windows right at the start....
list of files it couldn't find of which first 3 were kodac_dc.icm, srgb.icm, streamci.dll

this is exact same issue I have had when using any version on RVMi 1.54

using 1.53 not had this problem.
first failure where didn't find files was with 1.54b8.4
this time was with 1.54b09

each time was using latest (at the time) version of your integrator and installing MP11 and all patches (coincidence and an RVMi issue?)

Make sure you have write permission in the folder you are slipstreaming in and remove the read-only attribute.

thanks for the advice guys, this av / firewall stuff is a pain.......

as boooggy asked, install of only mp11 (on xp source with only sp3 integrated with RVMi 1.54B09), agv and comodo 3.0.25.378 without defense + both right clicked to exit.

as Epsilon asked

install of only Mp11 (on xp source with only sp3 integrated with RVMi 1.54B09), agv and later comodo 3.0.25.378 without defense + both right clicked to exit.

cleared read only for all files and folders on source

forgot av and firewall....failed integration and got mp11 temp folder left behind, forgot about that and tried another 3 times... then realised temp mp11 folder might be issue

started again... cleared read only attributes, (although when u go back and check check box looks just the same....

integration successful

why did I need to clear read only attributes, never even looked before and always had no problems on this front ?

failed integration

success yesterday on xp sp3 with only mp11
(after disabling agv 8.0.233 and comodo 3.0.25.378 without defense + AND clearing read only attributes)

today tried on mod source. disabling agv 8.0.233 and comodo 3.0.25.378 without defense + copied mod source to new location AND cleared read only attributes)

integration failed

deleted corrupted mod source

retraced exact same step. disabling agv 8.0.233 and comodo 3.0.25.378 without defense + copied mod source to new location AND cleared read only attributes)

integration successful

update..... I think there may have been an issue all along with the source as I can't get RVMi 1.54 of any type to make a successful disc

thanks for all the help and info, (even with 1.54 problem it does seem read only issue and av probs didn't help)

failed integration if RVMi 1.53 used prior to attempt to integrate mp11 with 1.4.1

BUT window will install using source before mp11 added

successful integration if RVMi 1.54 used prior to attempt to integrate mp11 with 1.4.1

It is considered to be best practice to not use spaces in the names of your directory paths for where temp work is being done. Even if the utilities you are using have taken space containing paths into account, I've found that it can cause problems.

Secondly, ensure that the user account you are using is a member of the Administrator local group. Power User may not be sufficient in the even that you are using such a user account.

RogueSpear, thanks for advice will try and learn....

one more test this morning

xp source sp3 integrated with RVMi 1.53

disable av and firewall, using RVMi 1.53 integrated only RVMUpdatePackSP3_1.0.3.7z, nothing else, no nlite, RVMi 1.53 to make iso

try to integrate mp11 to source now with RVM pack 1.4.1 success

so source broken during integration of SP3 when using RVMi 1.54bo9 ?

by the way for got to clear read only attributes and mp11 integrated anyway.

Is this a correct assessment and is this the best order?
In order to accommodate for users of different languages of Windows, the slipstreamer no longer contains KB908536 or KB894871 to allow each user to integrate their own language-specific versions of these fixes.

These KB are only for SP2, they are not needed for SP3

KB908536 is already included in Ryan's SP2 Update Pack, so just integrate this KB894871 before WMP11 Slipstream

ORDER:

1. integrate ryan update pack
2. ie7 and KB894871
3. WMP11 Slipstreamer
And can KB894871 be integrated using RVM Integrator or must I use nLite?

Is KB959772 usable with the current version of the WMP slipstreamer?
