Since you now "own" this, may I suggest a name change to an AIOAddon. Provided it is AIO and you are comfortable with that change. AIO sounds better and more defined than LARGE.

Just my opinion

I'll just call it a collection.

Can I make a suggestion for your next version?

For Uninstall why don't you add Uninstall YESNO or OKCANC Prompts, its very easy just add this to your [UninstallNirsoft] section

Code: Select all

[UninstallNirsoft]
BeginPrompt = BeginUnInsPrompt
EndPrompt = EndUnInsPrompt
DelFiles = etc. etc...

Code: Select all

[BeginUnInsPrompt]
Title = NirSoft Uninstaller
Prompt = Do you want to remove NirSoft Collection from your computer?
ButtonType = YESNO

[EndUnInsPrompt]
Prompt = NirSoft Collection was successfully removed from your computer.
EDIT: If you want you can use this addon for a inf uninstall section guide http://www.ryanvm.net/forum/viewtopic.php?t=4693

If you want to go even further. You can taskkill the apps example...
Add this to [UninstallNirsoft]
[UninstallNirsoft]
RunPreSetupCommands = Close.NirSoft:1
The ":1" flag hides the CMD prompt (it will run AFTER BeginPrompt and BEFORE DelFiles)
[Close.NirSoft]
TASKKILL /F /IM acm.exe /IM asterwin.exe /IM awatch.exe /IM axhelper.exe /IM cports.exe /IM CProcess.exe /IM etc. etc...

Thanks for suggestion but that is not needed if I understand you right Rick.

There is an uninstall option in add\remove programs.

The problem was that the nirsoft.inf was not being copied into windows\inf folder during a manual install. That has now been fixed.

Now just like Kel's CPL addon, one can now manually update Nirsoft infinitely on a current Windows install with no problems at all without having to reinstall Windows every time.

Well I was just trying to make the uninstall better, right now you go to add/rem programs and hit remove it just removes the programs with no confirmation box... IMO a prompt looks much more professional.

Image Image

And taskkill is used so if you have a program (like lets say icons extract) open the INF uninstaller will not delete it, killing it makes sure ALL the files will be successfully deleted.

EDIT: I also found that Nirsoft.inf is not set to compress (no [i386_compress])

EDIT2: Cant get taskkill to work to kill multiple executables so I'd say drop it

Ok Now I understand. I apologize about that. OK I can try to add that first suggestion.

Edit: 1st suggestion worked.

Edit2: Updated. See change log

The builder does not work for me. 'gacview.zip' is the only file that gets downloaded and no 'addon' is created.

Looks like nirsoft is having some web issues. I am sure it will
be corrected soon...Hopefully :wink:

It's not the builder fault because I can't download these files directly from nirsoft webiste.

NirSoft made a new application - FileTypesMan.
Might wanna check this out. :wink:

I actually did a little experimenting recently to add BluetoothView to the NirSoft builder. After tinkering for a few minutes I was able to find my way to the solution. I also added FileTypesMan since the process was fresh on my mind. I have an updated Builder if I may have permission to post it. Also, if that's acceptable, I need a place to host the file as well.

The only things I changed were:
ADD: Bluetooth View
ADD: FileTypesMan

Everything else stayed the same, including the version numbers listed in all the INF files. If I need to change version numbers throughout, I certainly can. By the way, I did NOT add any kind of credits or anything either. They are all original. Not like I did anything special anyways. It's just adding a line here and there. No big whoop.

EDIT: Would anyone like to request any other NirSoft programs for this builder? I mean, if I'm going to add/tweak things here and there I might as well do it all at once, right?!

Viruses in the Nirsoft software, the addon maker not working

Post by hgary » Fri Feb 15, 2008 10:04 am

The Nirsoft Addon Maker and or the website contains viruses in the Produkey.exe file and asterwin
I tried making a custom addon by selecting which files I want to download and it just ignores what I type and downloads all the files anyway and I get L2 file not found the two files that contain the viruses in the addon start file, I tried to delete those entries in the a few of the inf files, but it still looks for them.
Can you please fix the start file so it will download only the files I choose and not all of them.
Thanks

The files are posted and hosted by NirSoft. Chances are they are false positives. I can try to work on a pick-your-apps kind of builder, but it'll be a little bit before I can find time to do it. My lady already thinks I'm in love with this forum... Haha!

It may be a false alarm. I got false positive with norton internet security 2007 on produkey.exe and cmdow.exe. Those two files on my system a certified safe, but norton complain about those...

Just my 2 cents...

both Trand and Mcafee enterprise false alarm on the sysinternals "bluescreen" screen saver.

False positives happen all the time.

Is it possible to add certain nirsoft programs to the above list?

Particularly volumouse, and a couple of others I cannot think of right off the top of my head.

It is just a request, so if it is not possible, just let me know.

It is possible to change the addon to include any other apps necessary, but not to manually add files by the end-user on the fly.

On a side note, I mentioned before that I might attempt to add app-selection, but that's not happening right now. The deeper I get into school, the less time I have to tinker. That and I have to keep my sanity by doing something other than staring at a screen all day. Sorry everyone... :(

I've got SP3 and all possible .NET Frameworks. But it won't work. It is a matter of using command line arguments for the Cabinet Tool. Again, the Sysinternals builder works as a charm.

Any ideas how to fix this?

I don't know what to tell you... Using Windows XP Professional SP3, all .NET Framework packages and updates, I got no errors at all. I can't think of why it would stop working for some but still work for others.

Ooh, I wonder if the FGCBA utility is trying to reference cabarc from a system directory instead of the included version. Perhaps with SP3 they updated cabarc and removed the LZX compression option. If that is the case, its a bug in FGCBA (0.897 Beta) that would need to be addressed. But that's purely speculation.

But then again, I have SP3 and don't have any problems whatsoever. Let me throw this out there: If you have a problem with this builder, maybe you could try downloading the Microsoft Cabinet Software Development Kit and replace any existence of cabarc.exe on your system with this version. (Make an appropriate backup, of course, just in case something gets screwed up. If something does get screwed up, don't blame me please.)

Now it works, thanks! That was a Delphi 7 cabarc that was causing problems.

PS The builder also fails when working from a network drive.

Ok, I'll shoot this towards the FGCBA developer. I'm sure once the option for utilizing an included copy of cabarc is corrected, everything else will be fine.

I'd like to see a version of this tool that keys off a user-generated txt/ini file that lists the download paths (or local disk path) that is used to create a custom addon. Have a +- setting for each download to indicate if it is to have a start menu entry/icon or not. Sometimes we want all of the utilities available on disk, but only need a few of them actually available via a start menu mouse click.

Something like this might go a long towards 'solving' the maintainability issues.

This is something to think about, Daenon, on next build for users.

You need to make the output name of addon file something like Nirsoft_ADDON for the RVM Integrator to recognize it as an Addon. Otherwise we have to manually rename it with _ADDON; unless things have changed with regard to Integrator that I don't know about.

I think you will need to make your own addon builder forum thread so that you can be in control of it.
You do need to give credit where credit is due. Not me though. The originator of this and the original .exe builder, etc. Please?

Also to others, He has kindly put in a language selector in the toolbar named "Spachauswahl" please select your language first before making add-on. By default it gets the german versions of files. The rest of steps I think many English peeps can figure out.

I have no plans to update the builder I was associated with but instead highly recommend Daenon's 0.7.0.21 builder (two posts above) for selectivity of any or all of NirSoft and relative ease of use after you know about the quirks. D/l link still works. Snag it instead! Also see the few above posts related for its language selection.
