[Release] Dark Avenger's HeadAC3he Addon v0.23a-070902

Post by Mrs Peel » Wed Jun 20, 2007 3:41 am

If you don't know what this audio utility is for then you are probably too inexperienced at video ripping to need it. ;)

I have released three versions here, so please be sure to grab the correct one for your particular CPU if you decide to stick with the older v0.23a. See the notes on Dark Avengers Website if you are not sure.

Please note that I have personally been using v0.23a for about four years with absolutely no problems, and even though dkrus assures me that the newer version v0.24a13 is all good and stable I have since had the opportunity to take it for a test drive myself and found that it has failed me on several decodes that otherwise worked OK with v0.23a. My system is PIII, so it might just be that Dark Avenger has abandoned the PIII support in this newer version, but I'll leave it up to you peeps to decide what is best for you personally.

Also please note that my ripping gurus at Doom9 forums are still recommending the older version v0.23a, and these guys usually have a very sound (pun intended) reason for sticking with older versions. Newer is not always "better", after all. Also interesting to note is that Dark Avenger has released this newer v0.24a13 version under full GPL, so that is a good thing IMO.

Thanks dkrus, I actually managed to find a version of this on a reputable site and did a CRC compare between the archive you shared above and the freshly downloaded one and I see some of your file versions are older. Also, we must include all the contents of a software package in an addon release and it looks like you had deleted about a third of them (probably not necessary for your personal use but very important for repacking purposes)

I was actually hoping you would send me an official download link that has the current documentation and changelog on it, as I like to include all that stuff in my release notes. Being over 2yrs old already, all the weblinks in Avengers readme are long since dead, so if you do happen to have one please post here.

Cheers

I believe your HeadAC3he v0.24a13 is missing the vorbisfile.dll which is needed for the hVorbis.dll. The only link I had was to the development forum which is dead now.

Look again, it's in there.

For 8:3 naming convention it is called vorbisfi.dll in the cab file and when it is installed my inf file is set to rename it back to the original (non- 8:3) filename of "vorbisfile.dll".

God I wish software programmers would stick to 8:3 naming conventions cos it makes 10 times extra work for us addon pack makers.

Your wish is my command.... updated to be uninstallable now :P

FWIW, I have since had some time to test out this new version you recommended and I am sad to say that it has failed me a few times on files the the old v0.23a handled effortlessly.

So my personal choice now is to stick with the older version, as recommended by the good folks at Doom9.

Cheers m'dears ;)

Thanks Mrs Peel :D
I've no problems with the new version at all, but I do use the older version from time to time.
