No offense, but it says here http://www.ryanvm.net/forum/viewtopic.php?t=4905 and here http://www.ryanvm.net/msfn/updatepack.html that it is already included in the update pack.motofan wrote:nothing...just wanted to know if it was integrated already...MrNxDmX wrote:Its already in the Ryans update pack. Whats wrong with it
Now back to thread topic.
@MrNxDmX - Thanks for working on this, I imagine this type of update addon will become more common while Ryan is busy with his "day job"

Edit: My alternative update is now in a thread of its own...

Notes:
1/ KB932716's "update_SP2QFE.inf" does the COM registration for the IMAPI2 libraries manually. My update does the registration using a DllRegisterServer call (i.e., RegisterDlls in the INF). Same results, except cleaner and less prone to error.
2/ I have not fully tested this yet. It integrates okay. It installs okay in my VPC. It passes QFECheck okay. I can't find any glaring errors jumping out at me after the test install, and that's the extent of the testing that I have done (and will do). So no, I have not tested functionality.
3/ Since Ryan is going to be on hiatus for a while, I guess there will be more of these "update of updates" coming from various people in the near future, especially since Patch Tuesday is just a bit over a week away. So if anyone thinks highly enough of this update that they wish to base their own "update of updates" on this, please feel free to do so.

great work, MrNxDmx, thanks.
Question: I noticed you added only a few registry lines in the inf compared to those contained in hotfix 923845:
is there a particular reason?

MrNxDmx, I noticed in your entries.ini file that "qmgr.dll" is referenced in [txtsetup_files] but not in [dosnet_files]. Disregard this post if that is normal.
Don't ask for a different configuration of Onepiece's XP AIO Update Pack: use one of the existing vanilla XP UpdatePack with your preferred addons instead
no, this file now needs two copies, but only one copy in original XP install CD.
so i think he modified its entry to 100,,,,,,,3,3, then use inf file to copy it.
Also i use this method in a pack my friend needed 2 days ago.
i can't make sure if he uses this method because i haven't downloaded his pack yet. first link is bad because a limit of Ryan's server. second link is rapidshare, and these days rapidshare always gives me trouble in connecting...

I don't think that the "bits" directory is even needed. I debated for a little bit over whether or not I should leave a copy of qmgr.dll in the "bits" directory, and in the end, I had decided not to. This is a list of the things that I found out while investigating this issue, and the reasons why I came to the conclusion that it's not needed:yumeyao wrote:no, this file now needs two copies, but only one copy in original XP install CD.
1) If you look at the standalone installer for BITS 2.0, it also installs a copy of qmgr.dll to the "bits" directory. Same with a BITS 1.5 installer. However, an official XPSP2 install CD that has BITS 2.0 built-in doesn't leave a copy of qmgr.dll in the "bits" directory. Same version of BITS: standalone installer leaves extra copy in "bits", official XPSP2 CD from Microsoft doesn't. So leaving a copy in the "bits" directory is something that previous BITS installers did (and is thus not new to 2.5), but a "bits" directory was never created if using an official Microsoft install CD, and this is true for RTM (BITS 1.0) and SP2 (BITS 2.0) (don't have an official SP1 CD to check, but I suspect that it'd be the same as RTM/SP2 in that it doesn't use the "bits" directory).
2) The BITS service explicitly uses system32\qmgr.dll, not system32\bits\qmgr.dll. There is never any reference anywhere to the use of a copy of qmgr in the "bits" directory. I've never seen the copy of the "bits" directory ever be loaded, although I do see the system32 copy being loaded.
3) BITS 2.5 works just fine without a copy in the "bits" directory.
4) In the BITS 1.5 installer, the installer's INF refers to the qmgr.dll that it copies into the "bits" directory as an "extra" copy. Additionally, there are other non-essential files, like a readme, an EULA, and an uninstaller that get copied to the "bits" directory. This makes me suspect that the "bits" directory serves the purpose of some sort of backup/miscellaneous directory that is created if someone installed it separately from the OS, but that is not necessary.
Yep its by creation. KB923845 installs it to that folder.nonno fabio wrote:MrNxDmx, I noticed in your entries.ini file that "qmgr.dll" is referenced in [txtsetup_files] but not in [dosnet_files]. Disregard this post if that is normal.
And, i'm not an windows xp expert but the hotfix KB923845 installs qmgr.dll to bits folder, thats why i've added those lines. As I'm trying to make our xp disc's to look like hotfix installed, i dont think i added un-needed files or entries...
But thanks for your post code65536. You've informed us a bit about qmgr.dll file and bits folder.
