You need to be a little more patient, there ace_neo. :)

I didn't answer because I don't know for sure (I use Vista now for my Media Center). AFAIK, there are no other MCE addon packs other than what you've found here, but that doesn't mean there aren't more MCE updates, necessarily.

Ok r there any updates for MCE after this ?

Can u list which updates and addon packs of MCE are needed to complete entire integration?

Give links where ever possible plz..
I gave you my EXACT process from start to finish... what more do you need to know? We have told how, what updates are necessary... I'm kind of lost at what you are waiting for now???

01. Update source to SP3
2a. nLite to add addons, remove components, unattended settings...etc
2b. slipstream addons in this order: Redxii's Post SP3 update --> MCE Addon --> KB900325 --> KB925766 --> WMP11 --> All other addons --> IE7
03. Slipstream Driverpacks (skip this ifyou don't use them)
04. Build ISO for testing in VMware/VPC
05. Burn if everything goes smooth...

Am I missing something? What else do you need/want (as far as this topic is concerned)?

roirraW "edor" i don`t want to irritate u.

I thought there might be some other addons which i might had skipped.

Therefore i asked u and other members of this forums.

I got my answers to my questions from u people and henceforth i won`t ask this mce addon question again.

Thanks for your help.....

There are no other updates for MCE after this. You should integrate Rollup2 and after that this one. That's all.

Sorry benjamminzIS to disturb u again

I ran into an error while suing nlite software.

I followed following steps

1.Update source to SP3
2.Copy components folder to xp sp3
3.slipstream addons in this order: MCE Addon(NR_MCE_Installer_Addon_b2.rar ) --> KB900325 --> KB925766- -> aio .net framework pack.
4.wmp 11 and rest addons.

nlite is giving error while integrating KB900325 hotfix (failed).

What is causing error???

well for one thing you need to have components folder copied BEFORE updating source to SP3, as far as 900325 & 925766, I don't "integrate/slipstream" them I put them in SVCPACK folder and run them with the /quiet /noupdate /norestart switches.

see on page three I posted the order of things in SVCPACK.INF

I have no idea; I only know that nLite won't integrate the Update Rollups for Media Center. I was led to believe that was the fault of the Update Rollups.

DMX i following query about your mce addons.

1. Page 1 addon is NR_MCE_Installer_Addon_b2.rar ----->Installer addon
2. Page 2 addon is http://rapidshare.com/files/99376384/NR ... 3.rar.html -----> Rollup pack 2 addon.

Steps followed y me for integration of mce:

1. Source: Win XP PRO sp3 build 5512.
2. Copied compents folder into xp sp3 PRO.
3. Used nlite to integrate MCE addons in following order.
(1)NR_MCE_Installer_Addon_b2.rar
(2)http://rapidshare.com/files/99376384/NR ... 3.rar.html -----> Rollup pack 2 addon.
(3)aio .net frame work.
(4)WMP11 and rest addons.

Setup runs fine in nlite without errors.
I tested this setup in virtual pc 2007

After installation of this unattended cd, Rollup pack 2 is not installed.

Media center software version doesn`t show up update rollup pack 2 in version tab.

I dont know why is not showing in it.

Plz correct me if i went wrong in procedure....

ace, again you didn't listen to me...

I told you that I placed the kb900325 & kb925766 hotfix exes in SVCPACK and ran them with /quiet /norestart /noupdate switches... this is how I have gotten it to work...

please try it this way and report back. see my post on page 3 again for SVCPACK reference...

EDIT1: I guess I had forgotten to update SVCPACK order on page 3 with 925766...

would it be possible for there to be a version of this that is compatible with wmp11 slipstreamer? this would greatly help setup times I think... as you wouldn't have to have all those hotfixes running @ t-13...

Yes i am sure rollup pack 2 do not get installed if we use rollup pack 2 from DMX post i.e. on page 3(first post).

But if integrate hotfixes directly with help of nlite then it gets installed to update rollup pack 2.

benjamminzIS check out media center version in that it is shown whether u have update rollup pack 2 installed or not.

To check version, go to media center-->setting-->software version..

To install update rollup pack 2, integrate hotfixes directly using nilte after MCE installer addon. By doing so update rollup 2 gets install properly.

I'm confused. I have a version of this installed and when I run Media Center and click settings I don't have "software version" as an option, nor can I find this info under General or anywhere else. Running Microsoft Update and checking my "installed updates" doesn't show anything since MCE was slipstreamed. Belarc Advisor, http://www.belarc.com/free_download.html does correctly indicate my system as Windows XP Media Center Edition Service Pack 3 (build 2600), but the only KB it shows installed for MCE is KB900325 (rollup 2) which it lists as SP4. And both Belarc and MS update say all appropriate updates have been applied and nothing else is needed. So I guess I'm all set, but how do I "prove it"?

bphlpt there is tab in mce software that shows software version.

Since u have KB900325 installed as per u r post, download KB925766 from ms to get latest mce edition.

Your MCE software build should be 5.1.2715.3011.(Media Center No. 4)

I assume now that what you mean is the version tab of the Properties of C:\WINDOWS\ehome\ehshell.exe? If so, then you were right. Even though Belarc Advisor correctly identifies my system as Media Center SP4 and that Rollup 2 was applied, the software version was not right. After applying KB925766, it was still SP4, but now the version number was 5.1.2715.3011 and both KB925766 and KB900325 show up as installed in Belarc. But neither now nor earlier did either KB ever show up as installed in MS MU, even though they were both slipstreamed/nLited in using the instructions earlier in this topic, nor did either KB, or any other KB ever show up as needing to be installed in MU.

So, since we now see that MU doesn't seem to be a valid indication of whether or not we have properly installed all appropriate KB's in this situation, how do we know whether there are any OTHER KB's that we should install? Any ideas? I'm also somewhat concerned about the issue reported here - http://forums.techarena.in/showthread.php?t=834305.

And now, does anybody have a confirmed method of setting up an unattended install disc with XPSP3, any other necessary KB's, MCE, WMP11, IE7, Dot Net, DP's and all other appropriate addons/switchless installers (from Kels, RS, redxii, etc) that they are willing to share in detail? How about it benjamminzIS, roirraW "edor", ace_neo, MrNxDmX, UtCollector, searchengine? Searchengine, the buddy's disc you mentioned earlier as an example of your approach working, is the version I've been playing with to verify that everything did work, and that we have now seen didn't totally work after all, just to let you know. :D

I'm sure looking forward to all of these details getting worked out, as I'm sure everybody else is, too!

Cheers and regards.

I think it's Settings and About. I think it was the very last option in the Settings menu.

FYI, I haven't fooled with these MCE addons but otherwise I've used nLite successfully for everything except that I use WMP11 Slipstreamer of course.

See my posts here (second and third posts) for what all I add with nLite. I use nLite's unattended abilities all the time.

I didn't have in those posts but the very last step I do is DriverPacks, since you mentioned that.

Thanks for the prompt response. Yeah, I use WMP11 slipstreamer, too. Booogy rocks! Any particular reason you integrate IE7 and its KB "raw" rather than use the Onepiece or MrNxDmX version? I know you're not alone. Just curious if it's because of problems, preference, or what?

Cheers and thanks again.

Nope. When I run Media Center, I get the "couch potato" screen, and the options under Settings are:

General
TV
Pictures
Music
DVD
Messenger & Caller ID
Radio
Help

That's it. I had to go to ehshell properties. But then I haven't really played extensively with Media Center much. Maybe there's a mode or screen I haven't found yet. Curious though.

I got this too work, only the media center wasnt Dutch, going to replace all files in de b2 again, not using the a3.

Only this or more (just delete this or what? i use oem maps for new theme & wallpaler):

Inside the SVCPACK are 3 other cat files:

SONIC.CAT
MEDIACTR.CAT

Do i need to replace those too? My father is using a Dutch MCE 2005 on his pc, this is an original one, and he has that 3 .cats too.

EDIT:
This addon works perfectly, i replaced files + added dutch cmpnts folder + replaced all .cat files in the SVCPACK.
Result= Dutch Windows XP MCE, there was only one thing while installing media center (via installtips), it asked if i wanted to replace a English file for a Dutch one, i pushed Yes (because i want dutch), but i forgot to write down the filename, so i will make a new installation and test in VMware again.

SVCPACK.INF [just to show order of mce addon & updates & wmp11 + updates]

EDIT1, I had gathered from previous posts that it wasn't possible to slipstream wmp11 via boooggy's slipstreamer, well that is not the case. I tried it, all things the same except now my SVCPACK.INF Looks like this [reflecting wmp11 slipstreamed]:

Code: Select all

[SetupHotfixesToRun]
0_dotNET11SP1.exe
0_dotNET10SP3.exe
NR_IT.exe
kb900325.exe /q /n /z /o
kb925766.exe /q /n /z /o
0_ROGUESPEARSRUNTIMES.EXE
SPTD_156.exe add /q
MOZILLASUITE.EXE
FL_OP_PLAYER.EXE /S
VMWARETOOLS.EXE
VISTASOUNDS.EXE
SEGOEUI.EXE
WPIR.BAT
MCE shows proper build number and all addons install without incident and WPI starts on first boot and all Driverpacks are properly installed. WMP11 starts right up, IE7 has no issues and ehshell.exe version shows 5.1.2715.3011 as it should.

I also add this lines to WINNT.SIF for custom theme at first boot. :

Code: Select all

[Shell]
CustomDefaultThemeFile = "%WinDir%\Resources\Themes\Default.theme"
So EXACT PROCESS step by step was as follows for me:

1. Integrate SP0 --> SP2 --> SP3 (using the above .bat)
2. nLite with above settings
3. slipstream wmp11
4. manually edit, SVCPACK.INF (for proper service pack installation order, see above)
5. manually edit WINNT.SIF
6. Test via VMware
7. Slipstream Driverpacks
8. Build ISO

Hope this helps some that may have any questions!

now to build my minimalist install for an audio production rig!!!

Nice, that took a lot of work. Thanks for sharing the info! Ah, the good old days of batch file programming. :)

well that .bat was based on one that was posted somewhere on this forum, haven't been able to relocate the original thread, I'd give credit to that person... I just updated it a bit for my needs. I was told by ace_neo that he was able to use this addon via nlite and then slipstream wmp11 afterwards before using nlite again to add all other addons and build ISO... so I am going to try that, 'cause I'm sure it'll help the initial setup times some not having to run all those wmp11 items @ t-13/svcpack. If so then that would make this build absolutely perfect for me!

My installation is working also! But i get this question in the installation because i repacked this addon with the dutch files, so my media center would be dutch, it is dutch now.

Only thing i wanna know is how to fix/autoreplace that file without asking, will push Yes anyway, but there must be some command or some sort of solution to automaticly replace files without asking?

I used the addon on a Dutch XP PRO SP3 (Not slipstreamed)
It installed fine, even MCE works.
But there are no updates for MCE.
And when i download a few and try to instal, it says its only for MCE.

EDIT:
When i use a XP SP2 , slipstream the addon , then slipstream SP3
My key doesnt work , also my MCE key doesnt work.
So only way to use it for me is without updates.

EDIT2:

After my first method, updates only install after first logon.
reminds me of this :

EDIT3:
Yes my old guide did the trick :)
Updated fine, no more errors...

Any progress in adding the TabletPC components to the addon?

i slipstreamed an OEM MCE to SP3, and SP3 updates.
Then used the components and netfx folder from that version to put in my XP PRO

And i had to add a new quarz.dll , otherwise there was an update for media player.
