[Released] Windows Search 4.0 true addon

Post by ricktendo64 » Wed Sep 17, 2008 6:30 pm

I am happy to announce that I have finally been successful in making a true addon from WindowsSearch-KB940157-XP-x86-???.exe

So give me a couple days to perfect/translate it (maybe make it uninstallable from add/rem windows components) and hopefully we will have ourselfs a addon

Here it is guys, working english version: http://www.wincert.net/forum/index.php?showtopic=4372

Image

Important: Sorry guys nLite only....it also includes KB915800-v4 for RVM UpdatePack users (OnePiece already has this)

I tried and failed to make it install via SYSOC.INF but only way I could get the service to install properly was using SYSSETUP.INF (same methods of install as IE and WMP)
Addon/UpdatePack makers are welcome to modify/improve/translate/release this addon for use with your language (including english) all I ask is a honorable mention ;)
Because I could not get it to install using Optional Components the uninstall using Add/Rem Windows Components is on hold for the time being.

a simple imagination.............we merge this inf into srchasst.inf.............................then it's RVM integrator compatible..
but later user should never remove Search Assistant component..

Sep 20-08
- Tweaked INF a bit
- Added [NeededComponents] to both entries.ini to stop nLite users from removing necessary stuff
- RyanVM Integrator compatible version added (thanks to yumeyao)

I just noticed how cool the search now is if I keep the search assistant, I think I will keep it from now on :P

BTW if you use the RVMi version with nLite it will not let you remove the Search Assistant (with nLite version you can! remove this)

I get the dreaded "advanced INF" error upon first boot like many did with Adobe 9. :\ Using rvm 1.0.1 sp3 update pack, nothing else.

Fragbert wich version are you using?

Add this to the INF and tell me if the error still happens

Code: Select all

[SourceDisksNames]
1="Windows XP CD/DVD-ROM",\win51ip,,\i386
It should look in Layout.inf for what 1 equals but sometimes it may not have the brains to look

That reminds me, I was looking inside the windows search resources and I think its very possible to skin this baby to look more like vista, here is an exmaple:

Fixed with the latest version (RVMi compatible) - overlooked the new listing, sorry!
