[Release] ClearType Tuning PowerToy CPL

Post by Kelsenellenelvian » Sat Nov 05, 2005 7:53 pm

Total rebuid! I used Codes method for adding it to the catogories in the "normal" CPL mode. Also added regentries to enable it by defualt.
ClearType Tuner PowerToy

An alternative to our popular online ClearType Tuner, Windows XP PowerToy lets you activate and tune your ClearType settings via the Windows Control Panel.

Here's another version of the ClearType Tuner add-on:
http://stashbox.org/24620/ClearTypeTune ... 0070619.7z

Differences between this add-on and Kel's:

1) This add-on adds the registry entries necessary to place an item of the control panel into a category. If an item is not placed in a category, then any user using the control panel in non-classic mode (not that most of us do, of course ;)) will not be able to access that item via the control panel unless they click the obscure "Other Control Panel Options" on the left. People who do use the control panel in non-classic mode tend to be the more "Joe Sixpack" type and are less likely to notice that option on the left. So it's important that every item has a category assigned to it. See Q292463 for Microsoft's official documentation about how to do this for both CPL tools and namespace (CLSID) tools.

2) The help file, which is missing from Kel's pack, is installed to the Windows help directory. At first, I had thought that the help file was useless, because if you open up the help file, you'll only see some placeholder text, so I initially omitted it as well. But as it turns out, the help file does contain useful content--it was just never meant to be opened directly from the shell. The help file provides the app's contextual help (the question mark tool in the title bar) and also an illustrated LCD resolution explanation text (what you see when you click on the "click here for more details" on the first tab of the tuner).

Thanks Kel! I'm lazy, and don't need help files, so this one works fine for me

Thanks code65536 for the update. And to Kel for initiating this.

But code65536 is no where to be found right now.

This addon didn't work for me simply because its filename doesn't have the word "addon".

Now I'm going to reburn and reformat my PC again... OUCH. And this time I'll add it for sure

Indeed. And it's been like that for a while now.
I hope Kel doesn't mind me sharing his addon with everybody else.
Here's a link for it at MediaFire.
Enjoy this great tool & addon.

PS: MD5 hash should be the same as original post.
