True Addon?

Post by beefy147 » Mon Mar 30, 2009 4:28 am

All

I am not sure if i have missed something here (perhaps the point!) but what defines a true addon. i had a search and i am unsure

e.g. is it an addon that works with the integrator?
an addon that runs via SVCPACK
an addon that is truely silent / truely integrated

or is it just a word for an official release

sorry if this qn seems stupid im just confused!

Great site as ever - always reading, hope to post more :o)

True addons are ussually programs/themes/registry entries that get installed the same way xp installs stuff, either during text mode setup (early blue screen) or via INF (during copying program files... part of the setup before svcpack)

Silent addons are the installers downloaded from the web made to install silently, true addons usually are those same files extracted from the installer and told where to go by use of txtsetup.sif or a .inf file (same way windows installs its programs)

Ricktendo64 provides a very concise answer. I wrote a more lengthy reply to a similar question previously that you may also want to read if you're interested in more details.
