Because when you install .NET the 'offcial' way, the registry entries are 'carefully' organized by Windows Installer(Although Windows Installer & such careful way are totally bull-shit). But when you install installers made by u_h or me, all(u_h's)/some of(mine) registry entries needed to satisfy Windows Update are written 'rudely'.

why not just deny and block it to not prompt again in mean time ?

@yumeyao
Ahh yumeyao was not abducted by Aliens. :-)
Thanks for the information hopefully someone finds a way to avoid this problem.

@user_hidden
To do that on over 20 computers every time a .NET update comes out mmm. :?
For now i will add a script for installing the .NET stuff over the Windows Auto Update Center.

I'm not sure if there's someone using my .NET addon encounters such issues, at least it still works fine for me and my friends(I have several installations on my and my friends' computers of different versions of my addon).

there have not been any problems up until the current updates.
it was the current ones that wiped the old reg data instead of adding to it thus prompting
for an update that had already been installed.
imho a MS snafu ....

I already explained that you should unpack the installer and apply the MUREGFIX.reg file and you will be fine.

Yes ture but was this a .NET update pack problem and could this happen again in the future with the new version if some .NET updates come out?

Ahh a forum full of thank posts would be annoying. Adding a 'Thank You' button in the forum would be nice.

Can never tell the future with Microsoft.
They play games and are not very efficient.
So I can not guarantee what may happen.

As for a "Thank You" button that would be a nice addition to the
forum but that is up to RyanVM and it would probably entail a
forum software update.

Actually thepoint of thank you doesn't REALLY apply to that poster it was the tone and impatience of the post.

Especially for a 5year old only one poster....

While I don't use this addon I can admire the WORK that is entailed in making it...

Dont hold your breath for RVM to update his forum software :P

And yes I was! talking about the (1 time) poster, been nothing but a leech for 5 years without a single thank you post and expect others to be his addon slave and update stuff right away

So this installs at T-13 or at first logon? I want to install it before ricktendo's .net 4 pack, but I can only make his a SVCPack .net4 addon, so a T-13 installer.

Is asking too much of you to make also a (silent) .exe installer for this .net2.0-3.5 pack, so I can make it afterwards a svcpack (for it to be installed before ricktendo's .net4 addon during windows installation)? Your .net 1.1 is also a svcpack addon... Thanks :)

you could unpack the addon to get access to the net35.ex_.
with 7zip unpack the net35.ex_ to get net35.exe.
run the exe with the "-ai" switch for silent install.

i can not guarantee this will install properly at T13 as like i said
it is designed for runonce.

I can confirm that it DOESN'T work as a SVCPACK addon, only the .net 2.0 gets installed, .30 & 3.5 doesn't. Pity. :(

I just tried to update a previously installed .NET (20110101) with your new switchless installer on XP and I do not see any reg entries for KB263380. WU still offers it as an update for .NET20 SP2. This is all that I see:

Is this supposed to work or do I need to install when there's no .Net present on the system?

How difficult would it actually be for one to alter the installation script/method so as to make it useable with SVCPACK?

I'm aiming to get all the .NETs installed during GUI Setup and am hoping to find a way to achieve this while still using Ricktendo64's Slim installer for .NET 4.

I mean, I still have a copy of YumeYao's last svcpack-worthy CAB for .NET 3.5 but it would be nice to not have to worry about updating it through MU/WU afterwards. :)

Anyone know why KB2518864, KB2572073 and KB2633880 have started to appear in Windows Update?

These KBs were replaced by KB2604092 (MS12-035) which is in the current addon/switchless.

@ Adric

by chance do you have archived my installer before the current one?
if so is it possible for you to upload it and pm me a link.

if you don't no problem but maybe another user may be able to post it.
just want to check a couple of things and i have no backup of any of the
previous ones.

I have all the previous ones from 2012 and a couple from 2011.
I have SkyDrive, but I haven't tried sharing anything on it. I can
upload it there. If you have an ftp server I could upload there with
a temp id that you could remove after I upload. Let me know what you think.

thnaks Al.

as you said it seems MS has fixed their issue.
i knew it wasn't my installer.
i think they like screwing with XP users!

i downloaded the old installer that you posted so i can archive it
as i had a few things i did to the msi that i lost my notes on.

hopefully MU/WU will stop playing.

When I rebuild my system and use the latest updatepack, everything is fine with WU. When another Patch-Tuesday arrives with .NET updates and I let WU install them, I always end up being offered .NET Framework 3.5 Service Pack 1 (KB951847) afterwards. It looks like updating the system that has a .NET UpdatePack installed, ends up breaking the detection for SP1. Any ideas?

i have seen it before but i can only say somehow WU gets broken
or MS doesn't code properly.

i actually had that offerred on my system.
i let it be downloaded, start the instal and then all is fine.

i'll be looking into these querks over the summer when i have more time.

I am trying to produce a slipstream install CD of XP SP3 with .NET 1.1 and .NET 3.5 SP1 pre-installed. My primary goal is to have a minimal Windows installation size. So I think it would be advantagous to use this Onepiece installer instead correct? I believe that installing at RunOnceEx still has the problem of Windows creating lots of duplicate DLLs in the Windows directory.

http://www.ryanvm.net/forum/viewtopic.php?t=8316
[Release] .NET 2.0-3.0-3.5 GDR/QFE TRUE addons xp/2k3

Code: Select all

The peculiarity of these addons is that .NET framework is directly slipstreamed into your XP/2003 source, without the need of running .msi files or svcpack/runonce installations, a "true-mode" integration just like .net 1.0 in Windows Server 2003.
So you'll get a working .NET framework already installed BEFORE T-13 (svcpack time), a very handy opportunity.
