[Release] - Attribute Changer 5.23

Post by Zacam » Sun Nov 13, 2005 7:55 am

This is my first Addon, hope it works. :-)

shx_ZacamAddon_AttributeChanger_v5.23.cab
MD5 = B1F7337D7E86ABBC45904D37E2073A96

Code: Select all

02/08/06 - Hosting moved to addons.ryanvm.net
v6: 12/24/05: Cleaned INF's, fixed uninstall, TESTED. Ditched Rapidshare.
v5: Uninstaller added.
v4: Uninstall AddReg information added.
v3: Updated cab and corrected INI/INF's by Xable.
v2: Corrected possible CAB creation corruption by using MakeCab instead of QuickZip conversion from Zip->Cab.
This is Romain's Attribute Changer Shell Extension found here.

Hopefully I've interpreted the RegKey sections properly.

Much thanks to Xable for being psychic and making DateEdit and posting enthusiasim about AC.

Additional thanks to Xable for correcting my sloppy work. :-)

Thanks to Siginet & RyanVM for UpdatePacks, the original Addons and Integrator, the Holy Trinity of Slipstreaming.

Hmmmm. Strange. Does the MD5 match? If so, what do you have opening it?

Yes md5 matches, winrar to extract. What you using to make the cab?

It's probably a QuickZip error in converting a Zip archive to Cab (since it doesn't natively make CAB files). I just grep'd MakeCab and ran that for v2, see if that helps.

-edit-

So far I've not gotten any word back on any issues since I switched to makecab. I've tested in both VM and on a real install, so I think I'll call this good. Though I'm still sure I've _got_ to be missing something, it can't actually be _this_ easy.......can it?

Download is good now, i`ve had a look and there is a lot wrong with this. If you had of done testing you would of seen that it didn`t install, main reason being;

Code: Select all

[Optional Components]
AttribChanger

[DateEdit]
I think it`s best if you take a look at the one i built and ask any questions you might have. It installs to the default location of Program Files\Attribute Changer

PS, Siginet`s Defining Entries.ini thread should explain a few things aswell.

I knew I was missing something. Now I'm trying to debug how it is it worked on the test system and I can't figure it out as a re-install show's that you're right, it doesn't work. *shrugs* There's a reason I call that particular computer "Scrap_Heap".

Yours is obviously much cleaner......no surprise there, you've done this far more often. So, I'm switching mine out for yours.

I am curious though......why did you strip the uninstall strings out of the AddReg?

As long as you understand how the cab works i would mind if you re-branded the addon as your own.

I always leave out the uninstall reg if the app doesn`t need to be removed to upgrade. But off course your free to put them back if you want.

Would or would not? :-)

And I don't suppose that the uninstall strings are needed for upgrade as it will install over itself, but if someone finds an app that's more asthetic to their tastes then they might want to. Sadly, work now calls so I won't be updating that until later tonight.

Okay. Re-branded and now with Uninstall information added. Maybe now we'll have hit the final version.

If you've already grabbed the previous version, don't worry about updating it unless you _really_ need the uninstaller information (which is just a few simple reg keys).

uninstall.exe entries are missing and in the ini/inf`s it says i made it, all i did was help a bit. but anyway it should work accept the uninstall.

imo everyone should ditch rapidshare and use http://upload2.net instead. :)

Rapidshare dropped in exchange for Upload2.net.
Uninstall.exe information added, sorry about that.
Tested on VM and Live install.

I'll be double checking all of my release stuff as well as getting some more stuff out the door soon. My work scheduling and other "Real World" issues have managed to make a mess out of my free time, that's hopefully changing now.

Sorry for the slow reply on this, Happy Holidays all.

I can no longer Download the file, since on upload2.net it is stated:
Sorry, but this file was deleted from our database
Any chance for me getting this file ?
i personally rather not use Kel's UberPack (which includes it), cos it has several additions I personally do not use at all.
And want to save some space with my install

Greetings

Makes sense indeed :)
But do u mind if I upload a self-made pack ?
Well self-made  (took all relevant entries from Kel's UberPack)

I am not sure, that's why I ask it, and if I may I will put the URL here in this topic, OK ?

I re-wrote the inf for Zacam and in turn kel took the files and reg from this for his pack so i see no harm in posting it here again untill Zacam can get it back up ;)

But I am not sure if the code is correct, I need some of you to double check it please :)

Furthermore is it OK for you Xable if I send u the file via mail or the like so that you can look at it and even host it here if needed :)

I will indeed. Thanks for the notification, I hadn't noticed this thread popping up until just now. I'll upload it and ask Ryan to host it as per the latest version, and when it get's updated, I'll update the addon.

*edit*
FYI, I did not submit to having the hosted file deleted off of Upload2.net, so I don't know why it was.

@mindwarper you inf file is missing the %clsid3% sting in the strings section so it will not work.

An attribute changer? Are people here that lazy? lol
RyanVM wrote:I don't host files unless the author asks me to
Which could be avoided again if this forum allowed attachments. -_-

Although that would be a bad idea because some asshat would come along and probably ignore the no-crack policy. o.o'

That makes me wonder, how do these people send you the files to host? Do they just email an attachment?
Do you have stairs in your house?

@Zacam
Great job :).
I was really looking for something like this and now I found it :D.
But would you consider renaming this addon to 1.0 instead of 5.23.
That way it would look consistent with the naming used on the other addons available here at RVM.com

@Kelsenellenelvian
Would you please add this addon to the addon download page since I believe it's up to you to maintain it?

Thank you both.
Cheers

Yep, he's back for good :P.

I would, but I believe in reflecting the version information of the application of the addon. And since this particular addon didn't go through a great deal of revisions (aside from correcting some initial mistakes) I figure people knowing what version of the application is going to be installed would be a better deal, especially since this addon is pretty well finalized. Now, if this was my theme pack (still in progress) then I would version number it based on releases instead. Thanks for the input though, if there are more similarly minded people that comment (in PM please) then I'll consider renaming the addon.

It already is, under shell extensions. The only other addon I've done to date that _isn't_ on the list is the MS True Type Font properties extension.

No problem, just keep it as it is ;).

Indeed, I don't know how it slipped through my eyes .

I agree wholeheartedly with this.

I also name my addon packs by that standard. In my mind that is the authors orginal work and I am nothing more than a humble repackager, so I defer my personal credit to the author by using his/her version numbers and where appropriate to include their name in the title of my release posts. I also use the date the app was made by the author as my builld date in the entries file and a link to their website (if it still exits) rather than link a link to this board.

To me this just seems the right thing to do and if the author is ever going to be pissed that they found one of their apps repackaged for download elsewhere on the web, I kinda hope that it softens their reaction a bit to see they had full honorable mention. Maybe that's a bit niave of me, but anyhoo thats where I currently stand with it.

I only give my own version numbers to multi-packs, such as my font packs and games packs or to windows tweaks that have no particular version number.

Cheers

Funny, it doesn't crash here on live installs.

And you are the first person to mention having a problem with it.

But that's okay, because I am going to update it, but it will not be released until almost the first week of December.
