And since this particular addon didn't go through a great deal of revisions (aside from correcting some initial mistakes) I figure people knowing what version of the application is going to be installed would be a better deal, especially since this addon is pretty well finalized. Now, if this was my theme pack (still in progress) then I would version number it based on releases instead. Thanks for the input though, if there are more similarly minded people that comment (in PM please) then I'll consider renaming the addon.
I agree wholeheartedly with this.
I also name my addon packs by that standard. In my mind that is the authors orginal work and I am nothing more than a humble repackager, so I defer my personal credit to the author by using his/her version numbers and where appropriate to include their name in the title of my release posts. I also use the date the app was made by the author as my builld date in the entries file and a link to their website (if it still exits) rather than link a link to this board.
To me this just seems the right thing to do and if the author is ever going to be pissed that they found one of their apps repackaged for download elsewhere on the web, I kinda hope that it softens their reaction a bit to see they had full honorable mention. Maybe that's a bit niave of me, but anyhoo thats where I currently stand with it.
I only give my own version numbers to multi-packs, such as my font packs and games packs or to windows tweaks that have no particular version number.
