Is it normal that i get this error message below if i manual download and installation the "KB2909921" HotFix?
The version of Internet Explorer you have installed does not match the update you are trying to install.

It's normal if you're trying to install the wrong one. ;) There are three updates for XP SP3 with that KB number: IE6, IE7 and IE8

I wanted to post the reg entries for KB2925418, but I forgot to
run the install with /b:sp3qfe. I also noticed that the reg
entries I have go all the way from Filelist\0 thru Filelist\46 even
though IE8-WindowsXP-KB2925418-x86-ENU\SP3QFE\ only has 25 files in the dir.

All the previous reg postings show a different format and never
seem to go past Filelist\24. What am I missing about getting this
right?

okay, I ran the fix again with /b:sp3qfe, but it looks like the reg entries stayed the same so here they are after formating with

Gracias Rick...

So is it just a matter of leaving out the C:\WINDOWS\system32\DllCache entries when adding to ie.inf?

What ended up in the ie.inf uses variables and has a different order how the files are listed. Did you do this manually or did you use another tool for that?

Manually ordered them, also deleted the dllcache ones

BTW if you already have the previous QFE files you do NOT have to force it via cmd line in the next update, also if you want reg2inf to do the %variables% use /repvars switch

I went ahead and updated your addon (nosetuperr) to 1.4.32 since I needed to update my XP with a new install. I hope you don't mind since this is probably the last time this addon will be updated.

I don't think Ric abandoned anything. I just happend to be rebuilding my XP system and wanted an updated nosetuperr addon for my install without bothering Ric. I'm no expert for doing addons and I'm only trying to help where I can. Maybe I shouldn't have posted this addon since it could be interpreted as if I were trying to take over which is not the case. I never used the other addon and that is why I have not tried to update it.

I just compared the clean and nosetuperr and there are only some small differences between the two, so if Rick doesn't mind, I can update the clean version with KB2953522 since I already did nosetuperr for myself.

Remember, all POSReady 2009 updates by Ms after XP went EOL are supposedly not tested against XP anymore and functionality may someday break on you, so I recommend a full backup every time you update your XP system . You now
have 2 possible sources of error - unsupported fixes and a possible bad addon updated by me. :mrgreen:
