[Release] Printer UpdatePack and XPS Addon 1.2.0

What is this addon(or switchless installer) for:
1. The XPS Printer contains several common printer driver files, so making it a "true addon" saves space. Additionally, XPS Printer copies some files to driver cache, so we can just merge these files into driver.cab
2. For those who want to update their XP/2003's common printer drivers to latest, the "true addon" also updates them
3. As the reasons above, I decide to remove XPS in my .NET installer release. So this addon is to make it complete. Please note that .NET 3.0 installs without XPS Printer flawlessly only that XPS Viewer won't work because XPS Driver is not present.

Could you clarify this for me... if I want to use your .net framework addon (that would probably include .net 4.0 in your next release from what I've read) and WIC is a pre-requisite (for net 4.0 the WIC in XP SP3 in not enough, a newer version like yours is needed), a true integration of both wouldn't be more suitable?

In other words... since your .net addon is T-13, a T-13 pre-requisite (I'm reffering to your hybrid installer) may cause integrating issues?

Yes a true integration of both is more suitable.

A "True Addon" is processed by the RVM Integrator/nLite so it doesn't matter if you combine them into a "hybrid true addon", the integration result is always same. That's why I don't release a "hybrid true addon".

Opposite, a "T-13 Addon"(or Switchless Installer) is almost not touched by RVMi/nLite, therefore if you don't combine them, you'll get 2 extra files(the installers), and if you combine them, you'll get 1.
The smaller size only applies to the discussion of Installer Versions, because they share common installation component, so make them 1 hybrid addon is a good way to reduce the size.

The pre-requisite of my .NET addon only need to be satisfied "right before the .NET installer starts", so even they are installed at T-13, it's totally safe and won't cause integrating issues as long as they are installed/integrated before the execution of my .NET installer.

To make it not confusing, I'd like to claim it here:
Personally I suggest the using of "true addon"s for both XPS and WIC, the installer is just for others who want install on a live system.
And for the VC++ Runtimes and MSXML6, each way(true addon/T-13 installer) has its own pros.

MSXML6 isn't a problem for me, since I always use a clean SP3 source, and I always use Kel's Runtimes, so VC++ Runtimes isn't also an issue. Just wanted to make sure what's the safest way of integrating a newer WIC and printer / XPS addon for your .net pack... and now I know.

BTW... should I expect an imminent launch of your .net AIO (1.1+2.0+3.0+3.5+4.0)?

Just a little bit off topic:
I decide to release .net in followings combinations:
2.0 (2000 / XP & 2k3)
2.0+1.1 (2000 / XP & 2k3)
2.0+3.0+3.5 (XP & 2k3)
2.0+3.0+3.5+1.1 (XP & 2k3)
**I havn't tested removing .NET 1.1 from 2k3 and running a install on 2k3 yet.

Then start a new thread, with:
4.0 Core/Full
4.0 Core/Full + 3.5 Full
4.0 Core/Full + 3.5 Full + 1.1

Well it's a huge amount of releases, so the final release may be different.

My current progress is:
2.0 3.0 3.5 done.
1.1 lite is done. optimization is almost done.
4.0 lite is partially done. optimization not started yet.
install script: I may need a confirmation here

Yes you may F-up your install, I add these to a section called KeepFiles in entries.ini of my updatepack to avoid this (works on nLite v1.4.9 and up)

Hey there yumeyao,

Just a heads up ... i added this addon to my unattended XP DVD and it screwed up IE for some reason ... i get a message about 'Framedyn.dll' not being found at T13 when installing SPTD and on reboot a few more error msgs. I removed that addon and my DVD builds and installs correctly.

i have lots of other addons going in as well so there could be compatibility issues, but i thought i'd give you this feedback

I saw that but i assumed i could do it 'after' the update pack was integrated. My automated AutoIT builder integrates the update pack first (user_hidden's XPSP3_QFE_UpdatePack) and then processes all the other addons it finds in the 4 addon folders i have set up (i have 4 OS options for my DVD).

So i should add a step before the standard addons get integrated and that is to create a new folder and integrate any addons in that folder as update packs.

That should work shouldn't it ??

1. integrate u_h's updatepack and this addon
2. integrate other addons

--- OR ---
1. integrate u_h's updatepack
2. integrate all addons, but you should put this addon in the location of updatepack.

I suggest the former because it saves much time. The latter compresses driver.cab on each step, and the former only compresses it on the first step.

FYI - the reason i integrate in two steps is to save time re-doing the update pack integration for the other 3 OS options

YumeYao, I generally create two discs that I use, the first one has core updates, such as IE8, WMP11, hotfixes, and runtimes. Unsurprisingly, I prefer to include this with on that disc.

My second disc is based on the first one, except it include superfluous programs, including some "true" addons. When I run RVMI for this second disc, should I be including your addon as an update pack, or is that unnecessary (since it's in the first disc already)?

At the moment, I'm just including your pack every single time I run RVMI to play it safe, but I'm wondering if there are any adverse effects from doing this (repeated entries somewhere or whatever) or if this strategy is redundant.

Any advice would be appreciated.

It is redundant and unnecessary.

The entries are fine, but if you include this pack every single time, then your driver.cab is compressed each time you do an integration, that will be insane.

I have answered another integration sequence question 3 posts above, that will also give you a clarification, I guess.

But I meant you must select this addon each time on an over-integration OF U_H's UpdatePack, because u_h's updatepack overwrites some files from this addon -- just the same reason why WMP/IE is needed on an over-integration of his UpdatePack.

So do you guys have any idea how I can make it clear in the first post?

It seems the "True Addon" is like an extension of U_H's update pack, (not an addon per se.)

Once its integrated, other typical addons, (excluding non-YY .NET AIO 3.0 and up??), can be integrated in one or more sessions without the need to re-integrate the XPS Printer True addon .

Yes.
The True Addon updates driver.cab with some updated files and some new files.
In fact, my WIC addon may be considered as an extension of u_h's update pack, but it doesn't need updating driver.cab. This XPS addon needs updating driver.cab therefore it must be integrated as an updatepack or with an updatepack, in order to let RVMi update driver.cab.

My uncertainty came about because I'm having issues with my XP disc and I wanted to make sure that I had everything squared away with this pack since it had never been included on my disc before. The problem was that my first disc was working, but my second disc (based on the first) was not.

I've already confirmed my issue is unrelated to any of your stuff, however. I'm just letting you know that it wasn't your wording or anything. I was just double-checking.

If I recall correctly, other files have same x.y.z as XP's original files(assuming the version number is x.y.z.aaaa), but pjlmon.dll has a different version.

Hi yumeyao,

I found that files coming from KB977225 Vista x86 work fine with your addon.
After integrating it, I tried with a XP install in Virtualbox. A text file was correcttly printed with XPS printer.

yy you may want to check out KB969744-v2 for Windows 7, it has newer files

Does not apply to you but weird thing is KB977225-v3 (vista) has pjlmon.dll with the same build string/date as most files in KB969744-v2 (seven)... but pjlmon.dll in the latter is from 7sp1 rtm

P.S. I think I will also take mxdwdui.dll from Windows 7 sp1 and add it to mine, xpsshhdr.dll I will keep the one from KB977585 until the 7 rtm one is updated

kb977225,kb977585 are not in one-piece update pack.
Because of this, can I integrate this pack as an addon when integrating one-piece update pack?
In your 'incompatible' statement (1st post), are you telling us your addon will 'break' the integration (thus incompatible),
or are you simply saying it is not necessary because the files are redundant?
The 2 KB's above now make your pack no longer redundant. Therefore, if your pack will integrate, I have sufficient reason to use it.

Please clarify so I can do the right thing.

I'm not very sure about that.

As I concern, onepiece should have included in his update pack XPS printer, which doesn't only requires files to be copied but also needs a lot of registrations. So since I haven't checked how exactly onepiece's pack does on this part, I can't give a correct answer on this.

You may suggest him to include them.
