WPA2

Post by JenniferArden » Sat Aug 11, 2012 9:57 am

Hi all

Does anyone know if service pack 2 from MS adds support for WPA2 encryption in XP Pro x64 or must a separate hotfix be installed? According to internet searches both XP x86 SP3 and x64 SP2 provides WPA2. I tried selecting WPA2 on both XP x86 SP3 and x64 SP2 but WPA2 is not available although the manufacturers of the wireless adapters claim their equipment support WPA2 and "N" networking.

I can't answer your question, but I can comment on your second sentence.

WPA2 DOES work on XP x86 SP3. I am using it on two different machines.

I was just discussing wpa2 on another site in a different context. Have you been to this page? Here

WPA2 in XP Pro SP2 x64

Hi ELiTE and SHO_GUN

Thank you for your reply. I took a look at your website but it only tells how to set up a WPA2 network, not weather XP Pro SP2 x64 provides WPA2 security. I also noticed my OfficeJet 8500 Pro Plus do not support anything other than OPEN/WEP so I guess I will stay with this security. WPA2 seems isn't available in XP Pro SP2 x64 anyway. The main thing is that at least I have a wireless network that works although only at 54mbps.

Thank you for reading.

Google is your friend.

Try 2003 instead of xp x64.

here is a link that may work:

Apparently WPA2 is supported in XP x64 SP2. But I don't have a wireless NIC to verify this.

I see what you're talking 'bout now. Forget about using Windows to set up a network and kick that wireless "G" to the curb. Go out and buy yourself a Brand name high end wireless "N" gigabit router. Connect it between your modem and PC. In the router config set the password encryption to WPA2. You'll be cruising at 300 Mbps Speed on your 802.11n Network in no time.
Anyhoo, if possible, hardwire your main PC to the router. Run all else wireless. No wireless NIC, no problem: Here I've been using my TP-Link TL-WR1043ND Ultimate Wireless N Gigabit Router for years. Here .... 8)

WPA2 in XP Pro SP2 x64

Thank you everyone for your replies, I will try to update the drivers on my equipment, thats all I can think of since they do support WPA2 according to the manufacturers, if that doesnt work then it doesnt work. My server is wired to the router, the rest is wireless peer to peer.
