Onepiece's Win2k3 post-SP2 Update Pack
thank you so much for maintaining this pack !!
Seems I can't get rid of IE8 (have to say i don't get the point of having this in the pack, oh well).
If I remove it in nlite, i come up with an error (no install possible), and it doesn't show in add/remove programs, windows components doesn't get rid of it either.

You can easily restore IE6 by removing IE8 from windows components wizard but you need a clean Windows CD (with no integrated updatepack)geoslake wrote:thank you so much for maintaining this pack !!

Don't ask for a different configuration of Onepiece's XP AIO Update Pack: use one of the existing vanilla XP UpdatePack with your preferred addons instead

No, it wasn't included as now but seems that integration issues are solved, so it will probably included in next release

thanks a lot
as i earlier mentioned in some post that i used universal creator to create ie7 addon for w2k3 & Win2K3_Post-SP2_UpdatePack and built W2k3 updated CD and got error while setup copying following files ie (iertutil.mui, ieudinit.mui, jscript.mui and vbscript.mui) as missing files
I think it is due to absence of Windows Script 5.7 for W2003 as i included "WindowsServer2003-KB971961-JS57-x86-ENU.exe" for making "OnePiece_Win2K3_Post-SP2_UpdatePack_ENU"
thanks again for response

Have you used Nlite for the integration? If yes, retry with RVM Integrator 1.6.1 instead.
It seems more likely that, during integration, the utility has not deleted file references from dosnet.inf and txtsetup.sif files.
Usually RVMi handles better [obsolete_files] section of entries.ini update pack file.

Tool-created IE7 addon must have this in entries.ini file:
As you can see, those files aren't present in the list because they're needed even if you overwrite IE8 with IE7 in CD. So if you have the same section in your addon entries.ini file, there must be something else that deletes jscript.mui and vbscript.mui.
Are they really missing from your source?

Those updates aren't pushed by WU/MU so they won't be added but you can easily place the hotfixes inside svcpack folder then in svcpack.inf file add under
[SetupHotfixesToRun]
2003admsetup.msi /qb (or /qn etc)
gpmc.msi /qb (or /qn etc)
and you'll get them

Major update: now UpdatePack includes a full .net 3.5 SP1 natively integrated ("true" mode).
Note for Windows Server 2003 Enterprise users: if you have a netfxocm20.dll file in your source, please test your source on a VM before installing in a real machine, as someone reported issues with that file after slipstreaming SP2.

wow, I would have thought that the Nonno would be able to suss that out for himself. After all he's only been doing this for three years.
Patience, grasshopper. All of the pack makers are working very hard to update their offerings and if something isn't yet available to your schedule, then wait some more.

Since that is your first post in this thread you obviously have little interest in this update pack and are just throwing insults at me for no reason...
Interesting that you thought that was the reason though, naughty.
The info is just there as a reference more than anything.
What should I do next time... just don't even try to help out in any way?

Wow, I already know he can - I didn't link to them all for that reason.newsposter wrote:wow, I would have thought that the Nonno would be able to suss that out for himself.

Onepiece is waiting for Flash Player critical update to upload new packs and update topics.
There's a lot of work to do this month because almost everything has been updated, so this would take a few days more than usual.
However something is already available in Voidseesaw repository

I cannot even begin to imagine the work that goes into it all, I know an "IE8 Culminative Update" is always bad news, these don't slipstream in nLite and also if you install IE8 on first logon, the system then needs a reboot before any additional IE8 hotfixes will take effect.
OnePiece addons make it ludicrously simple, I wish I knew how to make them!
To be honest I wouldn't add this or that (Silverlight, .NET 4.0) which is why I would try to make my own - if I knew how to.

as for Onepiece's XP, you can easily disable the installation of optional components adding in Winnt.sif file (if not exist, you can create one) a [Components] section with these commands:
In this way, they aren't removed from your source you can also install them in a second time by Control panel- Add/remove Windows components usign the updated CD.
Here is the full components list http://img17.imageshack.us/img17/3144/catturaxh.png
Code: Select all

MSXML4 = off
MSXML6 = off
DirectX = off
MDX = off
WDSearch = off
Silverlight = off
WinRM = off

WRMC = off

No, there's no chance for an x64 pack from Onepiece. This will need a lot of work and time for an uncertain result.
Even the removal of MSXML6 is not suggested. Since Vista is a default component of Windows OSes http://news.softpedia.com/news/MSXML6-I ... 6216.shtml

no i mean for MSXML6 SP2 only, why long times i am using ur update pack from 2.8.0 then i always failed install mssql express gold, sp2 or sp3 becouse mssql express come with own MSXML6 too
Fragbert wrote:KB954459 seems to not be integrated in a method that certain programs require. SQL Server 2005 express fails and references the msi installer for KB954459 for the failure.
Running the KB954459 (MSXML 6 SP2) installer to first remove, then re-install the hotfix resolved the issue.

wow sweet project; i wish i discovered this a few weeks ago
somebody asked (i think on page3 :s) if there existed a x64 project of this and i see nope for the answer..
i've recently created a spreadsheet with the x64 bit updates from a SP2 disk from the MS site, once i get all .net KB#'s i'll post a link to it if anybody wants to do slipstreaming the old way (as i've done)
i do have two questions though,
using the update pack instead of slipstreaming all the files with nLite, will the final setup CD be smaller with the single update pack?
and lastly:
would it be easy to port the already created project to x64 using your package as a template, i'm curious to give that a try, especially if the setup cd is smaller than nLite'ing the 90 hotfixes so far
cheers!

@mMiniImManN:
1) new system files are integrated in same way, so the size should be more and less the same, but AIO UpdatePack includes also some optional components that will increase final setup cd size if added with Svcpack Addons.
2) No. x64 has a different filecopy structure in System32 and in SysWOW64 too, so all the files must be doubled. The inf file follows same rules in x86 and x64 but it must be rebuilded from scratch. 5eraph could answer better to this question.
@bartgrefte: It should work without problems but never tried that. You could give it a try testing the result on a VM

Working on that now.
I asked because Google showed a bunch of websites where it is not advised (and some said not even possible) to integrate SP2 into SBS because it could cause problems.
Just done testing with SP2 (integrate switch...), install went okay, now trying with the updatepack.
Only integrated them in the 1st installation cd, looks like that's enough.
edit: looks like it worked

I asked because Google showed a bunch of websites where it is not advised (and some said not even possible) to integrate SP2 into SBS because it could cause problems.
Just done testing with SP2 (integrate switch...), install went okay, now trying with the updatepack.
Only integrated them in the 1st installation cd, looks like that's enough.
edit: looks like it worked

I'm sorry for the long delay and the excessive length of this reply, but I wanted to be thorough.
Further complications between architectures include:
As a rule, I only build what I intend to use myself. Since I don't use Windows 2003 on any of my machines here at home, I don't feel that I'm qualified to produce a quality update pack for it.

The structural issue is important for copying 32-bit and 64-bit files into their proper places. The real difference is that all source and destination codes in DOSNet.inf and TxtSetup.sif that were meant for 32-bit files in an x86 source are now used for 64-bit files in an x64 source. 32-bit files must use new codes in the x64 source.nonno fabio wrote:No. x64 has a different filecopy structure in System32 and in SysWOW64 too, so all the files must be doubled. The inf file follows same rules in x86 and x64 but it must be rebuilded from scratch. 5eraph could answer better to this question.mMiniImManN wrote:would it be easy to port the already created project to x64 using your package as a template, i'm curious to give that a try
Further complications between architectures include:
- It is possible to write a very basic INF to work with both x86 and x64 operating systems. But INFs that perform file operations must be written specific to the OS architecture (x86 or x64). Also, registry entries used in update packs which are added by update package installers for use with QFECheck.exe to check file versions are different between x86 and x64 because the files installed are different, with different build dates and hashes. x64 update packages also usually install twice as many system files as x86 packages—a 64-bit fileset and a 32-bit fileset. Essentially, you cannot use OnePiece's Win2003x86 INF as a template for an x64 version. Almost all of the data within will be different.
- 32-bit files in an x64 source almost always have "w" added to the beginning of the file name in the source so all files have unique names. When copied to the destination, this added "w" must be removed. This is important to remember when adding new files to the source, such as for KB942288-v4.
- Win2003x86 includes dotNET 1.1, I believe. Win2003x64 does not include dotNET at all.
- nLite and RVMi handle AMD64 and I386 source folders and files differently. These differences affect how update packs need to be created, and they affect the use of advanced features and sections of Entries.ini for compatibility with RVMi and/or nLite.
- RVMi requires the use of an x64_I386 folder within an x64 update pack to contain the 32-bit files. 64-bit files are kept at the root of the pack. RVMi copies the files to their respective source folders as sorted by the update pack creator. New entries for all files listed in the [txtsetup_files] of Entries.ini will be added to the [SourceDisksFiles] section of TxtSetup.sif. This behavior for new entries is incorrect and conflicts with nLite's behavior, but probably will not be corrected in a future version of RVMi.
- Use of an x64_I386 folder is optional with nLite.
- When the x64_I386 folder is not used, nLite will parse DOSNet.inf and the [dosnet_files] section of Entries.ini to determine where the files in the update pack must go. New entries for files in the [txtsetup_files] section of Entries.ini are placed in [SourceDisksFiles] or [SourceDisksFiles.amd64] as appropriate. This behavior for new entries is correct, unlike the following nLite behavior for new entries or RVMi's behavior.
- When the x64_I386 folder is used, nLite will move files as sorted by the update pack creator like RVMi does. However, new entries for all files in the [txtsetup_files] section of Entries.ini are placed in [SourceDisksFiles.amd64], unlike RVMi. This behavior for new entries is incorrect, but will not be fixed. Development on nLite has ceased.
- Adding files to Driver.cab in an x86 source is possible with nLite, but not recommended (see quote at 16:59 UTC below). For an x64 source using nLite, forget about it unless you want to hack system files—which I will not do in an update pack. nuhi and I had the following conversation in PM on MSFN where we discussed workarounds:

I'm putting together my next release and have run into a problem with nLite 1.4.9. When integrating an x64 Update Pack the sections [drivercab_move] and [drivercab_copy] do not work. I have also tried using [UpdateCabs] but it doesn't seem to work either. The files are not added to driver.cab or drvindex.inf under any circumstances.
In case you're curious, I'm trying to include KB948046-v2 for XP x64.
Code: Select all
[drivercab_move] stddtype.gdl stdschem.gdl stdschmx.gdl
Code: Select all
[drivercab_copy] stddtype.gdl stdschem.gdl stdschmx.gdl
Code: Select all
[UpdateCabs] AMD64\driver.cab, AddFile_drivercab [AddFile_drivercab] stddtype.gdl stdschem.gdl stdschmx.gdl
nuhi, on 2008/09/02 at 16:59 UTC, wrote:Hi,
I don't support drivercab_move and drivercab_copy, what's the point of them?
nLite automatically updates files in the CABs so don't worry about that.
If you wanted to add a new file to it no way, have you tried that manually? Windows will not see it. It must be in the layout.inf which is signed.5eraph, on 2008/09/02 at 17:24 UTC, wrote:The reason I'd like to do it this way is because the files are supposed to be in "%SystemRoot%\Driver Cache\amd64" and "%SystemRoot%\system32\spool\drivers\x64\3". There is no easy way to do this without putting them in driver.cab and copying them out with the usual entries in DOSNET and TXTSETUP.
The intended result is achieved with the Integrator using the following code:
While the above code is workable with nLite as is (won't cause errors during setup), it doesn't seem ideal to me because the files will not also be in the "Driver Cache" directory.Code: Select all
[dosnet_files] d1,stddtype.gdl d1,stdschem.gdl d1,stdschmx. gdl [txtsetup_files] stddtype.gdl = 100,,,,,,,11,0,0 stdschem.gdl = 100,,,,,,,11,0,0 stdschmx.gdl = 100,,,,,,,11,0,0 [drivercab_move] stddtype.gdl stdschem.gdl stdschmx.gdl
nuhi, on 2008/09/02 at 19:48 UTC, wrote:Stuff like that is better executed by your own INF file through sysoc.inf like Ryan does it.
Or make a double file, renamed and add in txtsetup to the other folder and rename at the end.
Something like:
I could add drivercab_move in the next version but why wait.Code: Select all
stddtype2.gdl = 100,,,,,,,99,0,0,stddtype.gdl
Let me know what you decide.5eraph, on 2008/09/03 at 00:07 UTC, wrote:Yeah, the INF method does make sense to me as well and will mean less time spent on this from the both of us. I'll run with it. Thanks for the suggestion.

Hi nonno fabio
Will try out your updatepack on a copy of Datacenter 2003, will let you know how it goes.
integrated without a problem using RVMi 1.6 on a clean sp2 disc and installed on an older machine without a single error.
"thanks for all the hard work".

I hope so but I can't promise... Onepiece is working hard on his DX Integrator for W7
