[Release] Sue Fisher's The Font Thing Addon v0.80b2-070821

Post by Mrs Peel » Thu Feb 02, 2006 7:24 pm

I hadn't thought of making an addon pack for this until leelamb mentioned it here, so I've been having a tinker around for a few hours to see what I could do with the program.

This the next level of addon pack making for me and I haven't sought any help with it from any of the RVM Gurus, so I hope everything works as it should. It installs fine locally on my working system here (Win2k3) so if any of y'all have problems with using this in a slipsteamed build please let me know asap.

Please note that this utility will ONLY work with Windows TrueType and OpenType fonts. If you want to install Type 1 or PostScript fonts you will need to use Adobe Type Manager for them.

Sue Fisher: The Font Thing
The Font Thing is a freeware program for managing TrueType fonts in Windows 95, Windows 98 and Windows NT 4.0 (Note: I can also confirm that it works AOK in XP, Win2000 and Win2003).

Features:
* Browse installed and uninstalled fonts
* Browse fonts in subfolders as a single combined list
* View sample text and individual characters in your choice of colours
* Change sample text "on the fly" or easily switch between your own standard text samples
* View detailed font information
* Print font samples
* Associate notes with fonts
* Install or uninstall any number of fonts at once
* Load (and unload) any number of fonts for temporary use
* Copy or delete any number of font files at once
* Rename font files to avoid file name conflicts
* Filter fonts according to their type
* Group fonts into collections for easier management
* Use multiple font windows simultaneously for easy font comparison and management..

This is by far the very best freeware font utility I have ever had the good fortunate to stumble across and it even does a better job than 90% of the commercial graphics font managers I have experimented with over the years.

Enjoy!

:D

Well, problem with the download page at the moment, I'll get it asap. Why bother with MegaUpload, anyway? They are unworthy of you Mrs Peel! :wink:

I only use MegaUpload as a temporary hosting place until Ryan can move it onto his RyanVM.net site for permanent hosting. I'll get him to do that for us once we've confirmed she's all hunky dory.

Why MegaUpload? Cos it's the only freehost I can get a consistent decent upload speed to from where I live and I never had any problems downloading from their either, so that's good 'nuff for me.

You should save the flattery for the young gurly girls, cos I am immune to it at my age.

Bloody marvellous! Yet another addon I took the time to rebuild only to discover that there has been NO REPLIES for over EIGHTEEN MONTHS.

Despite it's age, this is the ONLY freeware font management utility out there that does a decent job of managing font collections, extracting full font information, font install/uninstall and front previews.

If I do not get some indication that this has been as valuable to others as it has been to me, then I cannot be bothered sharing it here any more.....

Seven days notice to being culled for lack of member interest.... tick-tock... tick-tock....

If only Ryan would give me an FTP account so we didn't always have to be waiting for him to update my files on the server........

This is NOT a discussion thread for members to gripe about my addon sharing policies. Posts split to general forum.

And yet.... It works!! In fact, I know of no other freeware with comparable functionality. Software doesn't need to be updated every three days, not if it does everything it needs to.

Oh, and you forgot to thank Mrs. Peel!! Even if it's not something you will use, why take the time to put down someone's hard work when you don't have something constructive to contribute?

:(

Sorry, but Mrs Peel has not been active on the forum for quite a long time, and she has chosen to not keep her posts active or share her sources. All of her download links are dead and have been for well over 2 1/2 years. Mrs Peel's state of affairs. I know many of us here were hoping she would return, (there were some health issues), but I guess it's not to be. It's unfortunate - I miss her and I hope she is well.

At this point, perhaps it's time for the staff to prune her posts to not confuse newcomers?

Cheers and Regards

Addon has been created and posted here:

Same version as posted above by Mrs Peel, (apparently the last to date.)
