Fine. Thanks.mfarmilo wrote:Well I for one wouldn't want such functionality included in userhidden's pack - I'm very pleased to see it doesn't appear to be. Fine if you want to add it in as an extra, but most of us actually want the microsoft update page to work.
But where did I demand (or even suggest) to include such a thing?.
Please read post carefully, before raising false & unnecessary alarms!:rolleyes:

This is just a nit, but was there a reason for using this:
HKLM,"%SP4UPDATES%\KB2485376","InstalledBy",0x0,"Administrator"
instead of this:
HKLM,"%SP4UPDATES%\KB2485376","InstalledBy",0x0,"%NAME%"
Just curious
Al
maybe i placed it in there to see if you were on your game

there are 2 in there for you, you only picked one.
the 2/8/2011 -> %VERSION%
really harmless as you know, actually was rectified in my local build,
and is ready for next pack release.

Trouble with update pack
I made a new nlited DVD disc Friday, rebooted, but it skipped the step - press any key to boot from cd - and went straight into regular windows. I then put my "old" backup DVD disc, using last month’s update pack, and it showed the “press any key” part. Bottom line, after a lot of trial and error, I discovered that the source of my problem was this new version of the update pack. With everything, except update pack, everything worked, with update pack, failure. FYI, I don’t have a burning “need” to reformat.
My only question is, if I did indeed “need” to reformat before next month, can this “update pack” be installed after a slipstream installation? Whenever I start a new “nlite” DVD project, I always start from scratch - original windows xp pro source, files manually copied over and then integrate everything. Since I had an issue, I got a fresh copy of the ’nlite program and SP3. I originally posted on the nlite forum, including my “last session ini”, but no errors were seen and no one had an answer for me.
Thanks in advance for any assistance,
Eddie
PS: Thanks for all the work you do to create this update pack and keep it current.

@eddie11013
"press any key" has NOTHING to do with the updatepack.
it is nLite !
check on the options page in nLite under Misc you will see an option "press any key....boot message", make it enabled.
as for installing the pack on a running system -> NO GO
but you can check this thread by dimadr that will run updates
on a running system. http://www.ryanvm.net/forum/viewtopic.php?t=8482

It seems that the "press any key" option is set on enable by default. I ran nlite again with the same result. the press any key did "not" show up. So there it is. So it's a "no go" on post install. Understood. If next month I still have the same result I guess I'll just have to move on.
Thanks for replying.

Thank you.
PS: Thanks for another great release.
that is a framework update and is included in my dotNet releases.
as Ricktendo64 mentioned above check Yumeyao's addon it has the XPS driver.
or if you want to have the exact update: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/en/d ... laylang=en

It now says I need the October 2010 version ..... (which had already been installed), digital signatures say July for the oct version and Jan for the one above.
Yes, I see that too, but the version in the current .inf is VERSION="27,0,2195,0" as compared to "26" from the last rootsupd. I don't know why the online WU doesn't detect the new version. If I recall there is also a problem with it detecting the new version of Silverlight. I never use the web update; I usually rely on the little yellow icon in the system tray

Words may define us, but it's love that connects us.
microsoft got tricked by the calendar this march, as the "1st Tuesday of the month" was in fact the 1st of march, obviously the second tuesday might be as soon as today (8th), the closest tuesday possible to the begining of a month
although the same ocurred in february
can't wait u_h and yume's updates

For those interested, Adobe released the first beta of Flash Player 10.3 today.
I know it's not particularly relevant to this thread, but since people that build new XP discs (implying they're getting everything up to date) come to this thread, I figure it might be relevant to some folks' interests.

Silverlight wasn't/isn't a Microsoft Update problem - MU handles the last update correctly. It's only problem is that the test PAGE is showing the wrong version when you visit it using Internet Explorer.user_hidden wrote:yup there is a new rootsupd for February 2011 but MU nags to install October 2010. this is a MS problem which hopefully will be fixed. they have the same issue with silverlight latest release.SHO_GuN wrote:Just an FYI - There was a link posted somewhere in this forum to a "new" rootsupd.exe ..... OTOH, the Feb 2011 rootsupd.exe has problems, read about it HERE.
That article indicates that it was supposed to be fixed earlier this month, however I just redownloaded the file from the above link and it is still the same file that I downloaded on Feb 15th when the link was originally posted.

@Ricktendo64
seems the cert can be cmdline installed using utils from "Win2003 Admin Pack SP1"
haven't tried it but then again i may just wait for a new root update exe to be released.
Alternatively, you can use the command line utility certmgr.exe, a
cryptoAPI/Authenticode tool from MS (and also Certutil.exe I suppose).
To add a certificate to the "Trusted Root Certification Authorities" in
localMachine:
certmgr.exe -add -c "<cert-file>" -s -r localMachine root
More information can be found here:

For those having trouble with user_hidden's CertMgr.exe download link, the latest known version can be found in the 567MB Microsoft Windows SDK for Windows 7 and .NET Framework 4 (ISO). You will need 7-Zip or another compressed file manager to pull files out of the ISO.
You want the "Setup\WinSDKTools" folder in the ISO. You must install the MSI within that folder, then navigate to the following folder on your hard drive to find CertMgr.exe:
Here's an alternative link with just the files of interest for those without the time, patience or disk space to spare.

it'll be in the next release as i have it already in the currnet alpha build of the next pack.
Which line entry inside the WINNT.SIF generated by nlite or Ryan VM integrator is responsible for removal of some "useless" behaviours of windows xp installation using the original disk, such as:
- the red filling progress bar, counting down 10 seconds before restarting PC several times during install.
- the windows repairing - recovery option, if a preexistent broken xp detected.
- the page with the License Agreement, that needs to push F8 to be accepted.
Apparently it does that without the user consent, which is good given their reduced utility...and for speeding reason... yet I want to know if there is any hidden setting inside winnt.sif or other windows installation file that keeps tracking that... and by switching it to make reappear the original behaviour.. I am much interested in recovering the repaire function, thanks

[Unattended]
DriverSigningPolicy=Ignore
NonDriverSigningPolicy=Ignore
This solves the no repair problem as well.
.... but you can also get to the repair option on an unattended CD by pressing the "F10" key at the first start of loading when the installation asks for F6 driver installation
