Can't install Seraph's Windows Live Addon

Post by lapetite66 » Sun Dec 04, 2011 10:50 pm

Hi:

I downloaded 5er_KB967756RollBack_Addon_v2010-04_1.7z from this site because from the direction I read I thought that would allow me to install Window's Live.

Unfortunately, the above mentioned addon doesn't work for me as I keep getting the same error messages over and over. At first I used a OS GRTMPOEM_EN copy that had been slipstreamed already with One Pieces v5.20 and then I tried one that totally clean copy without any integrations. I also tried using another version VRMPOEM_EN, both with and without integrations and still got the same error message.

Image

I even tried just slipstreaming 5er_KB967756RollBack_Addon_v2010-04_1.7z file by itself with both a clean copy and a one already slipstreamed with either One Pieces 5.10 or 5.20 Post SP3 pack but to no avail because I still got the same identical error message.

Is there another place where I can download this file???
Do unto others...then run. :)

The addon version you have was intended for user_hidden's older update packs, lapetite66. I have updated the addon which is now strictly for use with OnePiece's update pack v3.6.2 and later.

The installer has also been updated. Both the addon and the installer now include the MSI Event Viewer registry fix that was made obsolete by KB979302.

Thanks, 5eraph. I think you should repost your referenced post in it's own thread in an appropriate place so that it would be a little bit easier to find. :)

Cheers and Regards

I would have agreed with you, bphlpt, back when it was needed for both XPx86 update packs on this forum. However, now that it may only be needed for OnePiece's pack it is perhaps best that it be a bit harder to find. It should be good enough that nonno fabio links to the addon post in OnePiece's XPx86 update pack release post with specific instructions.

If you don't want to loose the new version, there's also atemporary workaround for working systems that allows you to install Photogallery in an updated XP

Microsoft should really release KB2388997 for XPx86, which includes the hotfix that originally corrected this issue (KB983280). Perhaps the Win2003 files could be used in XP... Is there anybody brave enough to try?

KB2388997 Experimental Addon

Description:
  • The following addon will slipstream the Windows 2003 x86 KB2388997 update into a Windows XP x86 installation source.
Details:
  • Intended for Windows XP x86 with an update pack that includes KB942288-v3.
  • Works with RVMi 1.6.0 and nLite 1.4.9.1, or later versions of either.
Download:Changelog:
  • [2011/12/06 20:10 UTC] - 2011-11_2 - Added registry entries from [MSI.AddReg] section of original update_SP2QFE.inf.
    [2011/12/05 11:50 UTC] - 2011-11_1 - Initial release.
Notes:
  • v2011-11_1:
    • Seems to work for OnePiece update pack v5.2.0 but not QFE update pack v20111110. In both cases the CAT file doesn't seem to work; updated files are unsigned in XP x86. With QFE update pack v20111110, Windows Live Essentials appears to install normally until "Done" page, where it shows all components failed to install for the following reason:
The Windows Installer Service could not be accessed. [...] hr:0x80070641
Unregistering and re-registering through MSIExec.exe may help this installer, but does not solve problems earlier in Windows setup for QFE update pack. The addon may need the additional registry entries from the original installer that I don't normally add for MSI.DLL updates. Needs further investigation.
    v2011-11_2:
    • As yet untested.

5eraph,

Can you tell me how you are testing this addon?

Opening the archive, I see two dlls included but, except for registry entries, neither is referenced in the inf. Shouldn't they be copied to system32?

If the addon is correctly made, how do these files get to system32?

Sorry, if I seem dense on this.

The DLLs replace existing files in the source which already have code in TxtSetup.sif to copy them to system32 when used with an update pack that includes KB942288-v3.

My test procedure:
  1. Copy unaltered XPx86SP3 source.
  2. Use RVMi v1.6.1b2.1 to integrate an update pack and the addon, then make ISO.
  3. Install ISO in VirtualBox v4.1.6.
  4. Check %SystemRoot%\SetupErr.log in VM.
  5. Run "QFECheck.exe /v" at command prompt in VM.
  6. Run EventVwr.msc in VM and check MsiInstaller sources under Application, and check all error messages.
  7. Try to install Windows Live Essentials from the Microsoft Update website, which is known to be buggy with newer versions of MSI.DLL.

OK, I was comparing to your previous "KB967756 Rollback installer", which was meant for a live system.

OK, then I have a report to make.

I just added this addon into a source that included other addons having msi's, like yumeyao's VC mixed addon. Those addons failed to install at T-13 due to an MSI Installer issue.

I will start over from scratch and integrate this at the beginning with U_H's update pack, before integrating the other addons and see what happens.

Nothing like testing. :)

5eraph,

Source + u_h 20111110 + this addon + yumeyao VC runtimes mixed addon. (Only these)

In that order and in a separate integration for each.

Same result as posted just above.

More info from virtual machine:

SetupErr.log:

Let me know if you need any more info from that vm.

If its only reg entries to get msiexec.exe to work with these dlls, then I'm guessing you'll fix it quick enough.

Hi Seraph:

Thank you for making an updated version of the Rollback File I appreciate it I will test it and let you know.

I would have gotten back to you a little sooner but was testing some stuff I made in a virtual machine. I was attempting to install some CABs and .7z files I made. While I still have your attention I can you tell me what section I can post my problems with .7z files and .ini files.

Thanks again, :)

You're welcome, lapetite66. You seem to have found the appropriate place on your own. Unfortunately, I don't have any experience with the installers you're having trouble with.

You got the same results that I did. The addon is updated. I'll test as soon as I'm able.

I just manually copied/installed the files on my xp partition (signed with signtool.exe) and I did not have to add any registry entries, it worked fine

And what Microsoft "should" do is release KB2494305 already not KB2388997 for XP

5eraph:

Sorry for misspelling your name all this time. Why didn't you say something? I could have sworn that was an S but it's a number 5.

I tried your addon and it worked like a charm:) . Once the process was completed I was able to install WindowLive by using the wlsetup.exe file which installed without a hitch. The ONLY problem I still have is that I still can't install my homemade WindowsLive .7z files nor the .cab files during the installation process. It would seem as if it was installing and then the installation process would roll back and cancel itself.

It would be simpler for me to install Windowslive during the whole OS installation process but hey at least I'm now able to install it whereas before it wouldn't install at all so I'm VERY happy about that.

Thanks again for creating the addon! :D

P.S.

I'm writing this message from the VMware virtual machine.

I'm glad it's working for you. :)

Don't worry about the spelling. It was easier for me to type without using the SHIFT key. Usually people don't notice a few pixels slightly out of place when the word itself is obvious.
