Problem (Maybe) with Onepiece Updatepack

Post by centi50 » Thu Sep 20, 2012 8:42 am

i have a problem with onepiece update pack. after integration, the IE8 icon is not found on the desktop even if i select to show IE8 icon using nlite. some nlite tweaks does not work also. Security centre also not running, windows firewall also not running and cannot be started. i tried to fix the firewall thing using auto fix from Microsoft website but say i need to to install .Netframework 2.

All these come to work again if i run windows components wizard. everthing i mentioned above works. but only after running widows components Wizard.

Is this ok or something wrong.

Before i used onepiece update pack cant remember which version but i never encountered this scenario. just integrated it and everything worked fine.

These are the steps i took

1. slipstreamed SP3 using RVMI
2. Integrated Onepiece UP Latest one using RVMI, then rerun again and
3. Used OnePiece_Remove_Windows_Search_AddOn. Then
4. Used Nlite to Tweak and reduce size, and then Burned the ISO using Nlite

My Nlite settings ini

If you search the forum you can find things like this:
http://www.ryanvm.net/forum/viewtopic.p ... 193#104193
Kelsenellenelvian wrote:The IE icon not being on the desktop is actually a feature of windows since SP3 came out...
With a bare sp3 installation the IE icon is not on the desktop.
Regardless Microsoft intentions, there was a simple addon by Ricktendo64 tweaking this: see here

About your other issues, please retry the integration only with RVMi on an untouched XP CD without step 4 and "burn" the .iso.
Test it in a VM and see if everything works. If yes, the issues you get aren't directly related to UpdatePack, but probably to some Nlite tweaks or component removal. You can search on its forum or try to add them one by one to see which of them is the culprit
Don't ask for a different configuration of Onepiece's XP AIO Update Pack: use one of the existing vanilla XP UpdatePack with your preferred addons instead

After Slipstreaming SP3 to My SP2 CD and then rerunning RVMi again to Integrate Onepiece Post SP3 Update Pack, then rerun RVMi again to remove the Desktop search with onepiece Desktop search removel addon. evreything works fine. Even IE icon came back by itself. i did not do the step of going to Add/Remove components wizard and selecting Next to reconfigure Things.

I guess there is something with the Nlite Tweaking or removal thingy affecting things. i dont know wat it is!!!!!!!!

But i really need to Tweak and create an Unattended CD. but i dont know how if am not using nlite.

can somebody help

Thank you

Only way to know is to experiment. You know doing everything else but nLite tweaks and removals works fine with no problems, so use that as your base. Try the base plus each of the following:

1. Use nLite to do the removals only, no other tweaks, "burn" the iso then test in VM.
2. Use nLite to do the other tweaks, but do NOT do any removals, "burn" the iso then test in VM.

Now you should know if it was either a tweak or removal that is causing the problem.

Assuming it was a removal,

1. Use nLite to do just half the removals, no other tweaks, "burn" the iso then test in VM.
2. Use nLite to do just the other half of the removals, no other tweaks, "burn" the iso and test in VM.

(Do similar with tweaks if it was a tweak causing the issue.)

Each time you find that the problem lies in one group of nLite actions, keep splitting the group in half to narrow the possibilities down until you find where the problem lies.

You can also do the same type of troubleshooting tests if you do a bunch of addons and one of them is causing a problem but you don't know which one. First narrow down that it is an addon by doing everything else but the addons and make sure that everything tests OK. Use that as your base then start testing half your addons at a time, splitting the group into smaller groups until you find the problem.

This method takes time, but it will work to find the problem. Good luck and let us know what you find.

Cheers and Regards

Remember also that Nlite 1.4.9.1 was released a long time ago, when IE8 didn't exist so several Nlite IE tweaks couldn't work anymore.

Here you can find many answers that will help you: http://www.msfn.org/board/forum/89-nlite/

Thanks to Both nonno fabio and bphlpt. Seems a lot of work, but i will try to give it a shot, and report back, might take some time as now my work leave is almost over, and i have to resume work.

In regards to Addons till now i only use addon to remove Widows desktop Search. I dont use programs addons such as firefox or anything like that. i prefer using portable softwares as it keeps system clean.

Thank you again.

Will give it a shot

I'm sorry to bump up in this thread.
I have done several, if not all integrations of onepiece update pack dating so far I may recall to 4.6 ; I use both RVM_Integrator_1.6.1b2.1.7 and nlite and thereafter Driverpacks and I have never encountered any problems at all. Maybe I will try to write some sort of "help guidelines " if someone want it to help out .

After much of time taken for troubleshooting, by removing components and tweaking, i have found that the source of the problem. It appeared if you removed Help and support from the removed Components in Nlite, then the problems i mentioned before of firewall not working IE8 Icon disappearing from desktop, Security center not working, iCS not working, Net frameworks detection failure, tweaking by nlite not working. All these is becoz i removed the Help and Support. But once u dont remove it, everything works fine and you dont have to go to Add/remove component wizard to reconfigure things. Also i noticed if Help and Support is not removed it takes approximately 40 min to Install XP in Virtualbox compared to 13 Min if its removed. This is on my laptop which is iCore 5 with 4GB Ram.

Hope This will help somebody who encountered similar problem

Hi All,

Just thought I'd provide an update on this issue.
I've just experienced exactly the same problems as centi50 (missing IE8 shortcut, Firewall broken, no Remote Desktop, etc.) on a fresh install of XP SP3 from an ISO created with nLite using the latest (v6.3.1-20121221) OnePiece update pack. I also had the Help & Support option disabled in my nLite config. When I re-enabled it, recreated the ISO and reinstalled to a new VM, everything was working as expected. So thanks to centi50 for his detective work in finding the cause of the problem.

I've been using nLite for many years with virtually the same config options, but have always used the Xable update packs plus the OnePiece IE8 add-on & have never had any problems. However, since the .NET downloads are now huge & time consuming to install I thought I'd try the OnePiece update pack. Apart from this one glitch, everything worked fine, so as a further experiment I created another build using the Xable update pack (v2.0.25) plus the OnePiece IE8 add-on and .NET update packs, and with the Help & Support option disabled I get the same results, an XP system with broken Firewall, Remote Desktop, etc. Therefore, it looks like there may be a problem with the interaction of the Help & Support option and the OnePiece update pack, particularly the .NET updates?

A more conclusive test would be to make a build using the Xable update pack and the OnePiece IE8 addon and nothing else, as you say you have done before, with the Help & Support option disabled in your nLite config. Try to do as much of everything as you think you remember from before. Everything OK? If not, keep redoing things until you can recreate your past results. If you can't, then you are doing something different. If everything is OK, then try to install .NET post install along with everything else you were trying to install in your new OnePiece build. If everything is still OK, only then can you even begin to imply that the fault lies with a bad interaction with something in either OnePiece's update pack or one of his addons. I'm betting that you just shouldn't try to remove Help & Support. And why would you need to these days anyway? Yes, I know it just rankles some folks to have things on their system that they do not plan on ever using. There is just not the need or payback to justify removals like there used to be. Just leave things alone. I would just disable services after install, and don't use IE, and you'll probably be fine. Just my opinion.

Cheers and Regards
