You need to remove the tick next to "Fast Download." It's just below the Download button.

It's a common tactic among some hosts. Uploaded.net does the same thing.

Hold on! I forgot to tell you that with it unchecked, I get sent to a different malicious web page everytime! With a page telling me that my PC is suspicious and to contact support. Obvious malicious web page.

The last time, I tried to download it like you said and that's the method I tried the first time, but when I clicked to uncheck it, it opens a malicious web page and in my case, I had to terminate the browser with Task Manager.

Free download hosts will tend to do that occasionally, RJARRRPCGP. They need to make money somehow. And some advertisement providers don't screen their ads.

I consider all of the following to be a decent defense:
  • Use a secure browser (not internet explorer in XP),
  • Recognize malicious websites (which you seem able to do),
  • Disable Flash Player. Temporarily enable it only when needed. Keep it up to date.
  • And use a decent antivirus that can block drive-by downloads (I prefer avast at the moment for its Web Shield).
I'm looking into using a free host myself. Zippyshare.com seems to be among the least annoying.

if you don't like Ads or want to try and suppress some with IE look for AdBlockerPlus, it's free.
for Firefox look at Ublock Origin

I find the download site problematic even after unchecking fast download. I see about ten windows that open up. Luckily they are blocked. The download is nowhere in sight. u_h, why did you stop using MediaFire?

I use Firefox with ublock Origin. THis site just doesn't feel right. There's a lot of stuff being blocked, but I don't get the download. When I use the generated download link, it times out. The site currently has a questionable reputation according to https://sitecheck.sucuri.net/results/dailyuploads.net

Not trying to be argumentative, adric, but Securi's business is cleaning up websites; so maybe they're not the most reliable indicator of trust.

In any case, sent you a PM.

No problem 5eraph. I need to find out why I'm having a problem getting the download to kick in. After taking a closer look, the domain seems to be clean.

For the uBlock users with Firefox, can you download the UpdatePack from dailyuploads.net?

I can't. It always times out.

Hi,

It has been a while since I built install media for Windows XP. Recently, I purchased a Dell E6430 laptop specifically to run Xp and Win10 as Dell has Xp -> W10 drivers available for this machine. The machine also has SLIC 1 & 2.1 in the bios.

I am planning on building a slim XP installation suitable for running from RAMdisk (the machine has only 8Gig RAM). In the past I was lazy and used Onepiece's allinone. However, since this is no longer being updated I will have to return to using individual update packs. I have used SP4 but this will also go out of date

Anyhow, I can use this update pack and the posready update pack to keep the core OS up to date. Similarly, there is an up to date IE8 update pack available, I don't use microsoft media player so that is not an issue. However, I am unsure how best to install an up to date .net framework. Most of the .net addons are quite old and I would assume rather out of date. I was going to try Ricktendo's post install slim installer but Ricktendo has retired and thus the installer is no longer being updated.

Can anyone advise which way to go?

Regards,
Bob

I have cut back on doing repacks, I will only maintain a handful from now on and leave it up to others to take over the rest (not that I maintained many to begin with)

The reason I have not updated the xp .net is so few people use xp and ms does not publish any more updates for 1.1, 2.0, 3.0 and 3.5, I would have to grab these updated files from Vista and Win7 hotfixes... They also do not publish any x64 .net 4.0 updates so I do not update my x86/x64 package any longer (which also affects .net for xp)

Storm it,
Did you get those two files from MS, or a third party?
Just curious.

You can get them from the MS Update Catalog. I am also using Rick's last AIO for XP.

Hi shiner they are right from the MS Update Catalog. :)

Hi adric Thanks for the info, did you mean OnePeice's last File or Ricks and where is Ricks. We are talking about POS updates correct.

I meant .NET Updates offered by WU on POSReady systems. Rick's last AIO is from 2016-01-10 from http://repacks.net/forum/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=26 . It has not been updated with the last two .NET updates. I don't use any Onepiece components.

Thanks guys for the replies and links.
Those links don't help me though, because I download updates for my XP machine using my Android phone then transfer them to that offline machine. Some MS download pages are not friendly with non-windows systems.
I have already downloaded those two files Stormit posted, extracted and checked them, then installed them.

@userhidden or 5eraph,
Could you please fork these recent posts into a new thread, We've done enough hijacking of this one.

Hi Ricktendo

Thanks for the response. Sorry it took me so long to reply but I was out camping - no phones, no computers, no internet, no TV, no radio, no newspapers, and hardly any people - glorious, pity about the weather.

I have now built a couple of systems up, one using your installer and one using Onepiece's update packs. Although, I could have been a bit more systematic about, it appears that using the addons results in a smaller build image. Although, given the bloat in all the Intel drivers, the savings were not massive. Both methods required me to install the same 2 updates.

I was hoping to avoid installing .net4 but one of the essential drivers has it as a prerequisite. I do remember the wonderful days when no driver (and hardly any software) used .net.

Onepiece', addons were not as out of date as I thought. I was going by the last post date shown in the forum (back in 2014) to determine their age. However, he had updated them in October 2015 and edited the first post but had not posted a notice so the thread was not bumped. I may just go and bump them now.

Again thanks for your reply and the work you put into the installer(s).

Regards,
Bob
