Can you tell us what "extra" software runs on XP with this extension, or how existing software runs "better"?
Maybe just some application examples? Thanks...
5eraph, I would like to have your opinion on this as well, if you've tried it?

It depends on the apps which require api mentioned above . Currently it can run thousands of app . my favs are palemoon , cyberfox , most of the games . It has newer unicode rendering dlls which can improve many things . newer debugging engine can improve stability .

ok!

Has anyone here installed it yet? I don't mind testing, but would not care to destroy my current install, still a good install and tight! and to be forced to reformat and reinstall right now is not what I want to do!

Junwuan, do I have to install this extend XP first, or will this work on a regular XP install?

Tell me about Cyberfox more so, I'm googling it now

Cybefox last version I run successfully in a XP box was 45.0.2. New versions dont run on a regular XP install. so you can test the portable first with Extended patch

VERY interested in getting this to work!
but i'm NOT having any success, it simply will NOT install - just get a dialog box to "please install latest windows xp updates first" - WHICH I HAVE (slipstreamed latest updates and posupdates)...

is anyone getting this to work ???

During the regular installation of updates, corresponding entries are made under the registry path
HKLM,"SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\HotFix\KBxxxxxxxx",Installed,0x10001,1,
these are queried by the installer of Extended XP.

The following is a list of the installer's queries:

Code: Select all

HKLM,"SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\HotFix\KB2961072",Installed,0x10001,1
For appropriate entries in the registry, the installer works, but if the actual slipstreamed updates do not match those in the list, this can give serious problems up to a blue screen.

As long as updates from MS are available, Extended XP has to be adjusted and tested monthly. For this reason, Automatic Updates should be set to Notify, but not automatically download or install. Before the installation of the updates, Extended XP should be uninstalled, so an updated Extended XP should be released soon.

i have a LEGAL winxp CD, i do my "updates" via 'update packs' from this forum - period...
i do not, and will never, use "Windows Update"...
"Automatic Updates" is DISABLED on not only "Windows" but *ALL* software on my PC...

will Extended XP be able to installed WITHOUT the 'cursed' use of "Windows Update"?

nope...

my trial-run with "Extended XP" was a VirtualBox install using WinXP SP3 and two update packs (six if you count .net 1, .net 2, ie8, and wmp11) -
1) XPSP3_QFE_UpdatePack for Windows XP Post-SP3 20161026 (by user_hidden, NOT by OnePiece)
2) [Addon] XPSP3 QFE POSReady Updates 20170110 (by 5eraph for all POS updates not included in user_hidden's update pack)

i have used OnePiece's update pack in the past...
it is a great update pack but i highly prefer user_hidden's instead, do not see myself switching to OnePiece just for the sake of "Extended XP"...
but "might" run a trial-run using OnePiece + Extended XP (VirtualBox only, doubt will do as primary install), not sure yet...

With that configuration everything should work, maybe you can check if hotfixes are installed correctly with qfecheck /l:c:
the .log is created in c:

Have your list and the queries of the installer matched where the two updates KB3178034 and KB3078601 crystallized out. After that, I simulated various scenarios in the VM with the result that the two updates possibly only in older programs are needed for compatibility reasons (GdiPlus.dll). For this reason, both updates are removed when querying the future installer from Extended XP.

At this point, thank you for the list of installed hotfixes, so that a future installation of Extended XP will work smoothly.

seems much much worse when i use OnePiece update pack...

took WinXP SP3 CD and used RVM_Integrator_1.6.1b2.1 to integrate -
1) OnePiece_Windows_XP_Post-SP3_UpdatePack_v1.0.8_FINAL_ENU.7z
2) OnePiece_WinXP_Embedded_Post-SP3_True_AddOn_v2016.12.16_ENU.7z

also used -
3) OnePiece_Remove_AddOn.cab

to REMOVE (in this order) -
4) OnePiece_Remove_BitLockerToGo_AddOn.cab
5) OnePiece_Remove_BrowserChoice_AddOn.cab
6) OnePiece_Remove_Microsoft_Update_AddOn.cab
7) OnePiece_Remove_MSXML4_AddOn.cab
8) OnePiece_Remove_NETFX4.0_AddOn.cab
9) OnePiece_Remove_NETFX3.5_AddOn.cab
A) OnePiece_Remove_NETFX3.0_AddOn.cab
B) OnePiece_Remove_Silverlight_AddOn.cab
C) OnePiece_Remove_Windows_Management_Framework_Core_AddOn.cab
D) OnePiece_Remove_Windows_Search_AddOn.cab
E) OnePiece_Remove_XP_EOS_AddOn.cab

Extended XP gets SAME RESULT as earlier, will *NOT* install, says i'm not updated...

so i run qfecheck /l:c:
log file only shows these hotfixes -

i'd personally *HIGHLY* suggest a command line install "switch" that enables a *FORCED* install ***without*** any 'checks' for updates...

perhaps a small "disclaimer" that "this version of Extended XP intended for all regular and POS updates through month/day/year, use at own risk if forcing an install on system with different updates"...

Windows must be on the Update level as in December 2016.
Extract all files from the installer into a directory and change by section "Prerequisite" in the file update_SP3QFE.inf in the directory "update" as follows:

Code: Select all

[Prerequisite]
    condition=SingleOp,LatestUpdateCheck2.Section
    condition=SingleOp,LatestUpdateCheck3.Section
    condition=SingleOp,LatestUpdateCheck4.Section
    condition=SingleOp,LatestUpdateCheck5.Section
    condition=SingleOp,LatestUpdateCheck6.Section
    condition=SingleOp,LatestUpdateCheck7.Section
    condition=SingleOp,LatestUpdateCheck8.Section
    condition=SingleOp,LatestUpdateCheck9.Section
    condition=SingleOp,LatestUpdateCheck10.Section
    condition=SingleOp,LatestUpdateCheck11.Section
    condition=SingleOp,LatestUpdateCheck12.Section
    condition=SingleOp,LatestUpdateCheck13.Section
;    condition=SingleOp,LatestUpdateCheck14.Section
    condition=SingleOp,LatestUpdateCheck15.Section
    condition=SingleOp,LatestUpdateCheck16.Section
    condition=SingleOp,LatestUpdateCheck17.Section
    condition=SingleOp,LatestUpdateCheck18.Section
    condition=SingleOp,LatestUpdateCheck19.Section
    condition=SingleOp,LatestUpdateCheck20.Section
    condition=SingleOp,LatestUpdateCheck21.Section
    condition=SingleOp,LatestUpdateCheck22.Section
    condition=SingleOp,LatestUpdateCheck23.Section
    condition=SingleOp,LatestUpdateCheck24.Section
    condition=SingleOp,LatestUpdateCheck25.Section
    condition=SingleOp,LatestUpdateCheck26.Section
    condition=SingleOp,LatestUpdateCheck27.Section
    condition=SingleOp,LatestUpdateCheck28.Section
    condition=SingleOp,LatestUpdateCheck29.Section
    condition=SingleOp,LatestUpdateCheck30.Section
;    condition=SingleOp,LatestUpdateCheck31.Section
    condition=SingleOp,LatestUpdateCheck32.Section
    condition=SingleOp,LatestUpdateCheck33.Section
    condition=SingleOp,LatestUpdateCheck34.Section
    condition=SingleOp,LatestUpdateCheck35.Section
    condition=SingleOp,LatestUpdateCheck36.Section
    condition=SingleOp,LatestUpdateCheck37.Section
    condition=SingleOp,LatestUpdateCheck38.Section
Then run update.exe.

Dibya still needs to customize some files because of the current vulnerabilities before an updated installer is released.

eureka... kind of...

";"ing out those two lines enabled it to be installed on my updated-via-user_hidden's Update Pack and POS Addon (20170110) VM...
but it did not enable it to install on my updated-via-OnePiece's Update Pack and Embedded POS Addon (v2016.12.16) VM...

but my test program (Pale Moon Portable 27.1.2) did not execute under the installed Extended XP :(

";"ed out *ALL* of the prerequisite lines enabled an install on my OnePiece Update Pack VM...
Pale Moon test gives same result, something about not able to load a valid "PE"...

will hold off until the next Extended XP to do any additional testing...
looking forward to it...

Since 2 months, on the part of Dibya's, with Extended XP no security revisions updates have flowed in, I decided to delete the download link in this comment! Everything else would be irresponsible at the present time!

XP is needed in real life . It is very fast and stable if we compare with newer version of windows . It is one of the most secure version of windows as newer security risks depends on features of vista and up.
Yup. Windows XP still the best IMO. Nice to see others keeping it alive.

Love to see people appreciating XP! This patch is great stuff, but it looks like the dlls are just being overwritten. As a result, either POSReady updates will overwrite the added functions or - if you reinstall this patch, security updates will be overwritten. I've done some code injection in the past with Syringe (https://github.com/securestate/syringe). I think this would be the professional way to go. If you implemented all those dlls call for yourself, it's even legal.

Is there a chance to make this project open source? I will take a deeper look into it and help if possible.

Support for most browser has ended and will end in the near future. This extension will provide a way to keep using modern browsers.

Hello. I will tell you the question I was thinking from before. Is it possible for current XPSP3 to support AVX, AVX2, FMA3 and other extended instructions in Extended XP? I think that it is amazing if this could be done.

Thank you for reply. Really? It is good news if so. If there is a person who can do that, I think that it is one option to have that person do it. If you can do this it seems there is still hope for XP as well.

After A long time being only one person to develop this project I am not getting enough time to work in this project.
I asked help in many places but no developer except damnation willing to develop this .
I wish if their 48hours in a day then probably i could have managed this project.
I have no way left rather leaving my creation (Extended XP) in hand of be loved community . Hope some one will take interest and work on this .
I believe community is much better than me so hope they will look after it .
In future if my real life permits i will return but currently it is impossible ...
Tools used in this project :
IDA PRO for disassembly
PEMAKER for editing export table : http://blog.livedoor.jp/blackwingcat/ar ... 13117.html
I hope some one will grab interest .
Last kernel binaries and Exkernel.dll build environment are here :: https://www.mediafire.com/file/4k48mb5t ... iroment.7z
Its a great time to here with you all . All support, love what i got i will never forget .
Now any good coder can save this project otherwise it will be few pages of history .
I am really sad to declare it but i have no way until next year .

Perhaps LZCNT, BMI1, BMI2 etc may be instructions that can be used in XP. I have heard that it is a CPU general-purpose instruction. Perhaps these may be realized by making kernel drivers. I am seeking the Messiah who will realize these.

I found a way to make AVX work . Wait sometime.
XP can handle AVX but it lacks some API to run AVX capable application.

This patch looks amazing. I hope you'll find time to work on it again some day.
I particularly hope you'll be able to make it work with SP4, since getting XP to install all of the required updates via the update service is so hit & miss.
