How to... ?

Post by SuperFreak » Sat Nov 25, 2006 7:28 pm

How to put those "Switchless Installer" files - can be found here: http://www.ryanvm.net/msfn/ - into my own copy of Windows with RyanVM Integrator or nLite?

Where can I read a tutorial or something on how to integrate them?

I see topics on how to MAKE one, but not how to use already made ones (Net Framework, Adobe, etc.)

Thanks.

Copy and paste this into Notepad
[general]
builddate=2006/11/25
description=
language=
title=
version=
website=

[EditFile]
I386\SVCPACK.INF,SetupHotfixesToRun,AddProgram

[AddProgram]
Program1.exe
Program2.exe
Now Edit the file and replace Program.exe with your program or programs of choice (Yes you can use one or more)
Now save the file as Entries_WhaterYouWant.ini
NOW put the exe into a folder and name that SVCPACK and simply zip, rar, cab, or 7zip them together and you are done

No, no, no... but thanks. I was asking how to use those predefined addons (like dotnet11sp1.exe, dotnet2.exe, jre509.exe, reader708.exe) via RyanVM Integrator or nLite.

Exactly how Rick said. The integrator and nLite use addons to integrate switchless installers. So make the entrie*.ini file in the way rick said and then compress the switchless installer and the entrie*.ini file into a zip, rar, 7z, or cab file.

I can make you a addon with the msgina complete replacement also (it will overwrite/replace the one on the CD)

logoff is in shell32.dll, but since it covers too many customisable ui, icons etc, best to exclude it, else will overwrite people's own customisations.

MSI reg has been sent to you, not sure if u need anything else.

Hi,

I was wondering if the switchless installers here are all SVCPACK compatible. I understand there are certain situaitons where they may not be. (For example see Shark's addons here: www.sharksfiles.com . Some are listed as being svcpack compatible, where as others are not). I understand the process of making an addon differs if it is not svcpack compatible.

I am actually specifically referring to the new jre6.exe and reader8.exe (that I just downloaded from Ryan's torrent tracker)

Any help would be appreciated. Thank you

This is what I have in the .ini file.

[general]
builddate=2006/11/25
description=
language=
title=
version=
website=

[EditFile]
I386\SVCPACK.INF,SetupHotfixesToRun,AddProgram

[AddProgram]
Java6.exe
Reader8.exe
Dotnet11sp1.exe

I renamed the .exe files to what you see above.
The .ini file is named Entries_Programs.ini

Then I put them into the folder named SVCPACK and compress it. However, I know it says to compress it via, RAR, CAB, 7z, etc. However, I tried RyanVM integrator and it wouldn't see the compressed folder until I put Addon in the file name but, the instructions in this thread didn't say anything about having to rename it so I'm not sure if it is working. nLite wouldn't recognize it unless it was a .CAB file. I'm confused am I doing something wrong?

I haven't done this yet, but I believe the proper way is to have the entries_*.ini file NOT in the SVCPACK folder but above it and .cab/7zip compress them TOGETHER so that if you were to extract them you would have:

root\entries_*.ini
root\SVCPACK\Program1.exe
root\SVCPACK\Program2.exe

etc... someone please correct me if I am wrong.

You are correct concerning the directory structure, benjamminzIS.

But certain versions of dotnet can be used in SVCPACK. RyanVM's v1.1 can, as well as most versions of dotnet from RogueSpear's forum. It's important to pay attention to the release notes for each.

Obviously, I am too backward to be considered a noob.
But, I aspire to be one.

Jeez you guys are as clear as mud, do you use Hershey bars to clean your windows ( the glass ones )

I thought RVMintegrator nLite etc were supposed to streamline and facilitate the process. I started with a few questions and now I am like a deer in the headlights. I have read forums tutorials etc. The hours I have spent trying to figure this out, I could have done a complete manual install of my whole system inc software data tweaks settings etc.

I have XP SP2

All I want to do is include the Updates and the main add ons (.NET, DX9, Java, & Adobe). One post says easy just click on them in Integrator. Then some one else says WPI, SI, ini. Then weld the discombobulator to the blue infrabit.

Probably be insulted for being in the wrong forum, but damn tell me which one. There's only a few hundred of them

v1.5 of the integrator will allow you to integrate switchless installers. Without the need to create an entries file and repackage it.

Okay, maybe I lied. My first post was desperation.

Lets say I want to get adventurous and integrate drivers.

1. Are DriverPacks the way to go or do they clutter things with useless stuff. Can you only install machine specific drivers within the pack.

2. Are there additional steps involved to integrate drivers from disk or mfg downloads

2a. Does Integrator clean up after itself by removing setup files etc

Again, if I'm in the wrong forum here, kindly direct me

1. Are DriverPacks the way to go or do they clutter things with useless stuff. Can you only install machine specific drivers within the pack.

A. That depends on what you need to accomplish. If you are like me then you need many different drivers for many different computers... so the driverpacks are a blessing. If you are using them for your own personal computer then they may be an overkill. But it is possible to use my tool DriverGrabber.exe to collect all of the needed driver files from your computer. Then follow the "How to make a custom DriverPack" tutorial or the "noob version". to create your own.
You can also call the DP_Base unattendedly with the integrator by following this trick:
http://integrator.siginetsoftware.com/i ... anual&tips

2. Are there additional steps involved to integrate drivers from disk or mfg downloads

A. At this moment in time the integrator doesn't integrate drivers on it's own. It utalizes the driverpacks method. Later I plan on implementing a way to simply integrate your drivers with the integrator. But the driverpacks method is actually the best way in my opinion.

2a. Does Integrator clean up after itself by removing setup files etc
A. Yes of course.

Again, if I'm in the wrong forum here, kindly direct me

A. Actually v1.5 is in it's beta stages right now. It should be released very soon.

Got DriverGrabber....Thank you

I assume usage to be:

Update all drivers on system
Run DG
Point Integrator to the created driver dir as an add on

or would nlite be a better choice
