Well there are now many hacks/tweaks and software for xp.
directx 10 will probally be ported to XP sooner or later.
and i agree vista just sux... and most poeple just dont relize vista is just XP but with more crap stuffed in.
i read an article and they did a benchmark test vista SP 1 and xp sp3, and xp was like 10 times faster atleast.
if microsoft keeps up with releasing crappier OS's evry time then i will except that will be even more 3d party additions to XP, maybe even kernel rewrites...

Tell that to a 1.3 P4 with 512mb RAM.newsposter wrote:10% faster, not 10x faster............
Boot:
XP = 45 Sec to boot to desktop
Vista = 8Min to boot to the desktop
Open IE:
XP = ~5sec to open IE to google homepage
Vista = 5+min to open IE to google homepage
I shouldn't need an entire new computer Just To Run The OS!!! funny... I can put Linux or osX on my lappy and runs like a dream compared to Bloaty Vista.
Anyways... that is IMO...
Back on track... Anyone tested the DX10 working on XP?

With the exception of MS Flight Sim, which is a personal vice of mine, when I want to play a game I reach for a console. I swear gaming on the PC was an easier endeavor when I had to make a custom config.sys and autoexec.bat with himem.sys and emm386 settings.
Now there's OS patches, game patches, DX patches, find the right video card drivers that the game publisher says you need, tweak the driver settings because unless you have a $10,000 Falcon Northwest PC there ain't no way the default settings will work, and on and on...

No, most games run faster on DX9 vs DX10 because for DX10 gaming you have to get past the OS, namely Vista, in which case DX9 games on XP are still faster than DX9 games on Vista. Namely, Halo 2. Neither here nor there however.
DX10, were it available on XP, would not likely see as much of a system hit as on Vista (and in my case with Bio-Shock, I only see a slight frame rate decrease and the effects are worth every lost frame). Granted, some of the more advanced DX10 only shaders and effects would give a good googly to a system not prepared for it, but that is true regardless of OS or machine hardware.
As for exclusive, quite true. And it's not likely to occur any time soon. However, given the total level of immersion increase available with multi-point cast light shadows and other effects available under DX10 (at less of a performance hit than it would be to try and achieve in under DX9), I would rather see the DX10->XP projeckt actually make it.

I'll keep my ramblings concerning DX10 to myself, for now.

I have a seven-year-old Falcon Mach V that still runs after countless upgrades. A word to the wise: If you're comfortable building PCs then build your own unless you really need a full system warranty. You'll spend half as much for the same exact hardware with less waiting and no preinstalled bloatware.

LOL. Nice to see somebody besides me remembers the good old days.RogueSpear wrote:I swear gaming on the PC was an easier endeavor when I had to make a custom config.sys and autoexec.bat with himem.sys and emm386 settings.
