So my forum's database decided to corrupt itself last night, as I'm sure many of you noticed. w00t for phpMyAdmin's repair function :)

I used to be a mySQL fan... then I found PosgreSQL... if you can switch I'd recommend it -- but it may not be possible / worth the hassle.

PosgreSQL seems to be more powerful than MySQL, yet it's less popular. Don't know why...

Never a good thing for a webmaster to come to. I use dreamhost as well and had a similar issue... Are you on taffy?
