Always show hibernate button at "Turn Off Computer":

It's from a Microsoft hotfix http://support.microsoft.com/kb/893056
But you need to send them an email request to get the patch.

You can download the patch WindowsXP-KB893056-x86-ENU.exe here

Can someone make an Addon for this? :D

i can make it work without the extra icon or the need for that hotfix... :)

simply press the shift button when that window comes up, to see it .

make sure hibernation is enabled off course ...

That's stated in the KB article, ENU_user, and is beside the point. The hotfix is meant to make it more prominent for those who forget or aren't aware that they have the option.
Microsoft wrote:However, you may not easily see or remember how to access the Hibernate button when you click Turn Off Computer. Therefore, you may not use the hibernate feature in Windows as much as you want to.
Making an addon for this would be trivially easy. It'll take me an hour or so to set up a VM to capture the registry entries; I don't have a machine running 32-bit XP to use for this. If somebody can make one faster then please feel free.

having addons for theses kind of hotfixes is cool

didn't mean to sound like im against any activities in promoting addons

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\System]

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\System\Shutdown]
"ShowHibernateButton"=dword:00000001
"HibernateAsButton"=dword:00000001

does the same thing

But this is only possible after the patch is installed :(

Addon posted.

That was my observation as well, project51. In fact, the hotfix does nothing once installed unless that registry entry is included. The addon includes both entries listed in the article for completeness.

This addon is also for lazy people who don't like to hold the shift key :wink:

Something of interest: When you pull up that window, hit "H" to hibernate the computer. Don't even have to HOLD the shift button. Not sure if it's useful to anybody, though....

Wow. Actually thanks dougiefresh. I'm not sure how useful it is either but that's an interesting thing to know. All these years and I never knew that...

On a side note, hardly anyone who's computers I work on is aware of Hibernate, or doesn't know what or if their computer does, Hibernate or Sleep, and what the difference is either.
