Windows XP SP3 RTM Confirmed on April 29, 2008 Not Confirmed
Ok firing up a 2nd system. Rechecking as suggested. My SP2 file adds the Version Tab but still no Digital Signature tab. Checking my SP1 copy I do see the Digital Signature tab.
Edit: Well I used Mark Russinovich's tool Sigcheck to check the digital Signature from the Command line and this is what it shows:

I had this issue with betas and RCs of SP3 but I ignored it since they weren't RTM.
In summary, if you perform the slipstreaming of SP3 into XP Corporate under Windows Vista or Windows Server 2008, then it will no longer accept your proper VLK keys. I don't know if similar issues are present when performing slipstreams to other editions of XP under Vista/Server 2008.
Other people have confirmed that they still had this issue with SP3 RTM, and I did as well. Re-slipstreaming under XP SP2 instead of under Vista allowed the resulting installation source to still accept my VLK keys.
That's interesting, but I didn't notice it mention about why the same file would have a Digital Signatures tab for some people and not for others. Did I miss it?
basically the page said that it had something to do with explorer in windows xp sp2 and that it had something to to with file size.. (from the bit i read)
not sure why it works on some and not others... files are the same but some work and some dont
good luck..

I cannot see the digital signature tab either. I have followed the slipstream instructions on the technet forums (under WinXP SP2), and can confirm that VLK keys work. I put them in WINNT.SIF, and tested under VMWare.
As mentioned previously, it sounds like the problems with keys relate to the host OS being used when slipstreaming SP3.

More interesting info, although I haven't confirmed it but I wonder what the "experts" have to say about this:
http://forums.microsoft.com/TechNet/sho ... &siteid=17
http://forums.microsoft.com/TechNet/sho ... &siteid=17
Edit: Whenever I have the time, I'll actually perform a file comparison between these two sets of files to see if there's a difference, but I don't have the time today. Logic would tell me there will be differences, but only testing will tell for sure.i did a small test
1) XP Retail CD "Gold" German -> slipstream to SP3 RTM
2) XP Retail CD "Gold" German-> slipstream to SP2 -> next to slipstream to SP3 RTM
if found that there are several files that are different.
E.g
Gold->SP3
MSRDP.CA_ is from 18.08.01
MSTSC.EX_ is from 18.08.01 -> 5.1.2600.0
Gold->SP2->SP3
MSRDP.CA_ is from 04.08.04
MSTSC.EX_ is from 08.08.04 -> v5.1.2600.2180
So Gold to SP3 will have some file older that if you slipstream SP2 before SP3
Why ?

Thank you 5eraph. I was wondering what the moderators thought of that. If someone is really intent on looking for XP SP3, they should google for it like I did.5eraph wrote:What's going on here? Since when have we allowed links to serials or warez sites on this forum? Please wake up, people.

Major Geeks has:
Microsoft Windows XP Service Pack 3 Final
Then it has:
Beta service packs are not for the average PC user. Unless you are an experienced Windows user and troubleshooter, please wait for the final release.
Does Major Geeks have the real final release or a beta, considering it is not suppose to be released until 29th?

Run the DXWEBSETUP.EXE from here. If it downloaded something when you run it... it means your system doesn't have the complete file and requires to be updated.jbob wrote:I just installed and running dxdiag it shows the current version as:

I just downloaded from MajorGeek and their SP3 is the same with the rest. Same MD5.Submariner wrote:Major Geeks has:

Ok tried that. It seemed to download the whole 23 MBs and proceed to install. From what I can tell nothing seemed to change but too many files to determine. Don't think that was a good test!project51 wrote:Run the DXWEBSETUP.EXE from here. Thanks jbob, that confirms that SP3 doesn't have DirectX March 2008.jbob wrote:Ok tried that. It seemed to download the whole 23 MBs and proceed to install. And to further confirm I tested the download(directx) on my main system that is only a few months old. It only required a 2.6 mb download. I watched it download the March update only. The fresh install of SP3 downloaded 23 MBs worth and I saw months in 2007 being downloaded so looks like it doesn't have very many DirectX updates at all.project51 wrote:Thanks jbob, that confirms that SP3 doesn't have DirectX March 2008.jbob wrote:Ok tried that. This is another item that doesn't show up in Microsoft Update. So looks like people still need to incorporate the latest DirectX updates into their installs and/or run the updater after install.
Does anyone know how I can use the new Vista-like feature to install without a key and enter it later? I have a corp-version of XP here, and when I don't enter a key during setup it tells me that I can't continue.
Another thing: I have a corporate key (a legal one) that I can't use in a slipstreamed SP3 install. It tells me that the key is invalid. If I install with SP2 slipstreamed and then update manually to SP3 everything seems to be alright. Even if I go to the Microsoft site and do a Genuine Windows check I am told my Windows is completely genuine. Does anyone have any idea why the key doesn't work the way I want it to?

More to report. I was successful in Slipstreaming SP3 onto a Dell OEM XP SP2 CD(not a re-installation CD). Installed fine with the same results as my earlier post.
One more thing. I did download and install the a IE7 installer. During the installation process there was a check box that asked if it should get all the current updates for IE7 and the Malicious Software tool. I unselected the check box hoping that with IE7 installed it would then show up in WU. No GO.
No updates show up for IE7 however comparing that IE7 with my current main system shows the same IE version.
7.0.5730.13 I'm not sure if the IE7 installer didn't go ahead and update with all the latest patches even though I unchecked the box to do so.

I believe SP3 has the latest IE7 fixes build-in. So when you install SP3 first and then install IE7 it has all hotfixes already.jbob wrote:More to report. That might be it.
Does anyone know what the current policy with MS Update is with IE7? Seems to me when IE7 first came out it did show up on the Critical Update list but then later it might have been removed. That is one possibility why IE7 is not showing up.
Dang guess I'll just have to do another SP2 clean install to check that out! lol

If you guys look carefully, certain things are *not* included with SP3. The latest MRT is one of them. IE7 and WMP are two others. Updates not *directly* integrated with either of those *should* be included with SP3. Otherwise, you may still have to update products that were not originally with Windows XP.

Great! A poster on DSLReports posted a download link from Microsoft to the SP3 release. I downloaded it and it came down fast however......the file size and hash is different than the one that was found via P2P.
The thread post is here:
http://www.dslreports.com/forum/r203757 ... t-and-MSDN
Not sure why the file sizes are different. If anyone cares.
Edit: Actually he posted two links but the files at either link are of different size. I downloaded from the lower link.

Thanks Red...that makes more sense. I "assume" MS will eventually make WU and/or MU compatible with SP3.redxii wrote:MS has not made the IE7 hotfix installers "compatible" with SP3, all IE7 hotfix installers look for a maximum of SP2, therefore they won't be detected for nor allow install on SP3 with IE7.
You'll have to integrate IE7 with an addon pack if u want IE7 + updates on a integrated SP3 install.
I've integrated the SP3 (316MB) via /integrate:<path>

WScript is not needed as SP3 comes with the latest (tested by myself). Futhermore, you may want to include the root certificates updates and possibly an AIO .Net installer under 'RunOnceEx' to make sure they are installed after the OS is done installing (that is what I have done with setting tweaks, IE7 hotfixes, and etc).SelfMan wrote:I've integrated the SP3 (316MB) via /integrate:<path>

WScript - thought so, but just wanted to see what happenscrashfly wrote:WScript is not needed as SP3 comes with the latest (tested by myself). All the other stuff is what I normally do. For now I just wanted to see what happens on the Microsoft update site.
I only wonder why the SP3 contains a very old flash.ocx version (6.x).
[EDIT]
I've added .NET 3.5 (again just to see what happens) so no problems either...

First of all, even with SP3, the Corporate edition of XP won't include the ability to install without a key. This has been covered many places. That ability resides only in non-Corporate editions of XP with SP3 slipstreamed.posttoast wrote:Does anyone know how I can use the new Vista-like feature to install without a key and enter it later? Edit: Your other question I have the answer to closer to the top of this page.

IE7 still shows up as a critical update when WU/MU checked with just XP SP2. The last time I observed this behavior was just last week.jbob wrote:That might be it.
Does anyone know what the current policy with MS Update is with IE7? Seems to me when IE7 first came out it did show up on the Critical Update list but then later it might have been removed. That is one possibility why IE7 is not showing up.
Dang guess I'll just have to do another SP2 clean install to check that out! lol
More interesting info, although I haven't confirmed it but I wonder what the "experts" have to say about this:
http://forums.microsoft.com/TechNet/sho ... &siteid=17
I compared two direct integration scenarios with SP3 RTM:
left: XP Pro corp gold > SP3
right: XP Pro corp gold > SP2 > SP3
Differences in i386 (besides sp2.cab, sp2.cat):
http://forums.microsoft.com/TechNet/sho ... &siteid=17
Edit: Whenever I have the time, I'll actually perform a file comparison between these two sets of files to see if there's a difference, but I don't have the time today. Logic would tell me there will be differences, but only testing will tell for sure.
i did a small test
1) XP Retail CD "Gold" German -> slipstream to SP3 RTM
2) XP Retail CD "Gold" German-> slipstream to SP2 -> next to slipstream to SP3 RTM
if found that there are several files that are different.
E.g
Gold->SP3
MSRDP.CA_ is from 18.08.01
MSTSC.EX_ is from 18.08.01 -> 5.1.2600.0
Gold->SP2->SP3
MSRDP.CA_ is from 04.08.04
MSTSC.EX_ is from 08.08.04 -> v5.1.2600.2180
So Gold to SP3 will have some file older that if you slipstream SP2 before SP3
Why ?

The real problem is not whether machines think but whether men do.
Is just my opinion but i guess those 2 files are older version of SP3.jbob wrote:Great!
If you download them both you'll see: one of them is from 31.11.2007 and the other from 12.02.2008.

Both links were deleted anyway.
krieger546, thanks for the info. The filedates are different but are the files themselves indeed different? I'm 85% sure they will be, but I'm going to confirm it here shortly.
Edit: I confirmed that the files are actually different. Just wanted to make sure.

Thanks a million for the heads-up! xable had everything I needed!crashfly wrote:Further testing on SP3:
So far, it does not seem to be that big of a deal.Also appears to be an updated Windows Update Site. Not sure if I installed that or I just missed that update.
- WGAN is not included at all. If you have an addon for that, I would suggest continuing to add that.
KB941569 is not included (wmp codecs)
KB890830 is not included (MRT)
Otherwise, seems to be a pretty complete SP.
Edit:
The following addons are not included since SP3 is integrated and Ryan's update pack is not.However, xable has all of these updates on his site. Go here to add those to a SP3 installation.
- Adobe Flash Player 9.0.115.0 ActiveX Control
Microsoft Qfecheck 6.2.29.0
Microsoft Update 7.0.6000.381
Not a problem. I can only hope that more people use this information.w2sjw wrote:Thanks a million for the heads-up! xable had everything I needed!
