No. I think that we should wait for IE8. Also, Understand the important of the IE 7 addon. Thanks you MrNxDmX, and all your addon's contributors!marzsyndrome wrote:Guys, guys........... maybe we should wait and see if MS update IE7 to properly support SP3 compatibility, yes?

The reason why RyanVM forum exists is because we don't wait for MS. We integrate because we want it automatic. We don't wait for MS.marzsyndrome wrote:Guys, guys........... maybe we should wait and see if MS update IE7 to properly support SP3 compatbility, yes?
For average Joe, you have Windows Update. You sit back and wait for hours to install it. Then reboot your PC. If you have 7 PC, multiply that waiting hours to 7X.
For computer technitian, it's just that impossible to wait.

I did some checking and this may be it. I won't be able to test it anytime soon. I just noticed the date of 5.6.08 today when I was browsing around.

First i want to thank you for your nice addon.
The only problem i encounter is that i get 1 error in the QFEcheck screen.
kb947864 needs to be reinstalled.
I did some searching myself and only found out it`s a IE explorer update ( http://support.microsoft.com/kb/947864 ) and needs to be updated with MU. But when i check MU there are no updates to install.
What i did:
My installation is a xp sp2 with RyanVM april update pack + this ie7 addon.
Any ideas howto fix this?
Thanks!

It has been reported that WU actually checks file versions, etc rather than the specific way a hotfix was installed.
It has also been reported that QFEcheck *just* checks for specific registration entries which *specifically* tell it whether a hotfix is installed or not.
As of those reports, it has been said that using WU as the 'standard' is better than trying to figure out what QFEcheck wants.
So my take on it is this: if WU does not show any updates, then you are good to go. As for QFEcheck, it probably does not have the proper entries to say the specific hotfix was installed.

I also did a qfecheck /v /l
And what i got was:
KB898461: This hotfix should be reinstalled.
The following files are incorrect for this hotfix:
C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\PREINSTALL\WINSE\WXP_X86_0409_V1\SPMSG.DLL.REF

I checked the folder and all files are in place and following the information at: http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx/kb/898461 everyting is installed as it should be.
Should i just ignore it?

Technically, none of the IE7 addons can support SP3 because MS does not support IE7 slipstreamed into XP. However .... this addon *does* currently work with SP3 when it is slipstreamed in. Now ... this status of certain updates are in question .... depending on how the *updates* were implemented *with* SP3. Outside of that, this addon is safe to use.Nameless Mofo wrote:Hi MrNxDmX, does this addon support SP3 yet? If not, are you even looking at it?

Yeah, not to take anything away from Onepiece (who does awesome work) but I personally prefer the structure and organization of MrNxDmx's addon. And yes, I also tweak his addon for my personal use.dumpydooby wrote:Awesome. I'm looking forward to it. Your version of IE7 is a lot easier to tweak than the other one.
Hats off to you MrNxDmx!

I apologize in advance If I am not posting in the appropriate thread but has there been an XP x64 or Server 2003 x64 addon of Internet Explorer 7 posted? I checked the appropriate subforms briefly and did not find anything...
Just wondering if anybody out there has one they are willing to share. Thanks!

I didnt want to post on first post cos I've not yet tested. This addon nearly the same as my turkish addon which works perfect.
Please give feedback after testing, i'm working on the alternative addon now.

Cipherfx2, as users reported above, the KB947864 update has not fully integrated in the addon. The addon integrates perfect but Microsoft Update finds KB947864-IE7 as a needed update.
Fixed that bug with these addons.
I've tested latest alternative addon in vmware and all went perfect. I created 2 partitions (c & d) and installed the windows to d partition. And no errors till now. Installing normal addon with same situation now. Will report back and update the first post

All Addons (Normal & Alternative) are specifically for SP3 with a fix for KB947864 showing as needed by MS Update. --> [Not compatible to SP2]
Alternative Addon intended for installation let's say partition D other than C.
Can I use your Addon in conjunction with IE Pro Addon?

I would think/hope that both versions would be compatible with both SP2 and SP3. Surely we don't need 4 different versions, do we? And I would hope MrNxDmX was just checking his addon's flexibility in allowing IE7 to be installed anywhere desired, rather than be restricted or hard coded to "C:\Program Files". I'm just amazed that he has apparently fixed the issue of requiring that IE7 had to be installed with the standalone installer after using a slipstreamed XP SP3 in order to allow further updates to IE7 to be successfully installed. I'm thankful, but very curious how he did it. Like Cipherfx2, I would also like to know if IE7 Pro Addon can be used in conjunction with either version. And does the Alternative version still produce the apparently unimportant setup errors?
Sorry for all the questions, but I'm excited! This is finally looking like the perfect IE7 slipstream solution!
Cheers and regards.

@ Cipherfx2, no no, dont mix up things.
I've released the 2.0.0 addon 11 posts above this, and then after testing in vmware (also users reported so), i saw that some files were not updated with 947864. In short I havent updated all files in the addon. Then, modified addon, and updated all files with latest release, and posted addon again 6 posts above.
As for the d partition thing; I created 2 partitions in vmware, c & d, and installed the windows into the d partition. The reason of this was to check if everything would be ok on different partitions than "C".
bphlpt describes this better than me
And, the difference between the two addons, is written in first post of this topic:
@ bphlpt: v2.0.0. and above will be compatible with only sp3. I've removed two files that a sp2 system would require for ie7 (xmllite.dll and custsat.dll). IMO everyone installed or slipstreamed sp3, then sp2 compatible addons will no longer requested
For the IE7-Pro addon, it should work ok with my addons. But i havent tested it yet lately. I've used it in one of my installs before, and it did install ok. Will add it to my test system next time.
The alternative addon still creates errors in setuperr.log file. But i didnt see inetcpl.cpl error this time. I'll do more tests later, and modify the addon if needed
Currently uploading the addons to ftp servers that RogueSpear and RyanVM provided. First post will be edited asap.
Cheers

And, the difference between the two addons, is written in first post of this topic:
Thats all.-The alternative addon should be fine, particularly if you prefer to overwrite files and disable SFC with nlite. This addon produces 'setuperr.log' messages about these files (imgutil.dll, inetcpl.cpl, inseng.dll, mshtml.dll, msrating.dll, pngfilt.dll, webcheck.dll). So far, they seem negligible. We're working on it!
-If you're adventurous, go with the Alternative Addon. Otherwise, play it safe and go with the normal Addon.

While this is very true, and I agree in concept, maybe as long as Ryan is putting out updates for SP2 it would be appropriate to continue to do so also? I'm most interested in SP3, just something to consider and I'll respect your extremely valued opinion. this is just my opinion, but maybe you could keep a 'legacy' version that was compatible with sp2. this version would be available for people (such as myself) that are taking a cautious approach to sp3. this legacy version would no longer be supported or updated by you, so i dont see the harm in keeping an older version on the page for people who might still would like to use it
is the new v2.0.0 breaking anyone else's oobe ?infact, alt addon breaks oobe ,and normal addon skipps my runonceEXE installs...its quite weird..ive tested this alot so its not a fluke.
edit:after more testing i dont think my prob is caused by this addon...ill have to test 1 by one to find the culprit.

First off, thank you very much MrNxDmX for continuing this project.
Unfortunately the alternate addon seems broken for Pro VLK sources.
IE6 logo is on desktop, but exe version is 7.0.6000.20772.
IE does not start, but a window flashes briefly. There is also a weird icon in control panel that doesn't do anything...it looks like a world with 2 checkboxes in a white square overlaid on it. (no text under the icon)
In my %programfiles%\Internet Explorer folder there are these files/folders:
Connection Wizard\
SIGNUP\
HMMAPI.DLL
iedw.exe
IEXPLORE.exe (hidden/system and only able to change attribute from command line)
I have tested 4 different builds all with same result, both with Gold VLK + SP3 slipstream and also with MSDN VLK SP3. Virgin image + alternate addon and nothing else touched.

I confirm that both addon work flawless on my end. I've used nlite for integration with no addons together, also with no settings&patches.

I used Integrator 1.5.3, I'll try nLite later and see how that works. There is nothing else wrong with the ISO as far as I can tell. I've been making tons of images lately and tested an earlier version of your standard addon successfully.
