Update packs - simple question

Post by jace5869 » Tue Jan 27, 2009 4:13 pm

I'm wanting to know if there are any known or serious issues with using nLite to slipstream a service pack (SP1 -> SP2), along with also integrating Hotfixes/Patchs like Post_SP2 packs in the same session?

Any number of people might say no, and then some might say yes. In general, it would depend on what you were trying to update.

As a general rule, there are not any major problems. Most update pack creators (Ryan, 5eraph, etc) know enough to have their update packs compatible with both the Integrator *and* nlite. The way nlite accomplishes certain tasks, some hotfixes are not correctly integrated, but there are ways around that also.

One simple thing I will tell you, this forum gives more support toward the Integrator. Most nlite problems/issues would need to be asked at the nlite forum.

Alright, that sounds good, but how does the integrator perform when you want to slipstream a service and the POST SP update packs?

integrate the update pack directly, then the integrator will ask you for spX.exe for slipstreaming.

Alright, Thank you!

I will start using The Integrator more, and only use nLite when needing to tweak and lighten a disk.

I recon this post would be the right place to ask the simple question. Does SP3 Update Pack include all Hotfixes that SP2 does? If so why have both when SP3 is supposingly the latest? Main page offers both but I'm kind of struggling to decide which one to integrate. The retail version of Windows I use is XP SP2.
Nevermind, I think I found the answer: http://www.ryanvm.net/forum/viewtopic.php?t=6899
