Thank you too discotex.

To all who downloaded before, please re-download. There was a typo in entries.ini file.
Sorry for that.

I don't use a roaming profile or a domain environment. Would this still help with slow shutdowns or even hung shutdowns. These are unfortunately too unpredictable and infrequent for me to just test this. Those really bug me and I'd love it if this would help.

Thanks MrNxDmx. I am going to try this out. It appears that it might help out in *some* shutdown / logoff freezing states. Hopefully that is the case.

Thank you, but all I did was make minor install modifications. You and the people that create the addons in the first place deserve most of the credit.

Without you guys, I would not have anything to edit! :D

Besides, changing the install directory is trivial if the install and uninstall are limited to the inf file. It gets more difficult if the uninstall is not based on the inf. (But then who would want to uninstall all of these beautiful addons anyway? :wink: )

Just add it to your source with the /integrate switch, or use nLite, or run it from cmdlines.txt like: KB943729.exe /quiet /passive /norestart (/nobackup).

After integrating the 2.0 addon, I see uphclean.dll in the program files/uphclean directory, but I do not see any registry entries for UPHClean.. Which means no service defined, started, etc. Did I miss something and how do I get this installed correctly?

I did see that mentioned in this the 2,0 thread, I thought there might be another way to handle this without manual intervention. No big deal though. Thanks ... I 'll go ahead and run what you said. I just need to remember this the next time I do a new integration.

Rick, Thanks VERY MUCH for this... I didn't actually realize that anything needed to be done in order to have this run properly... not sure how I missed it but sure enough I checked the reg like adric said and unless you register the .dll there are no entries... but I also noticed it doesn't make the following Open File Handles change which is referenced by TechNet http://blogs.technet.com/uphclean/archi ... -v2-0.aspx

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\UPHClean\Parameters
SHARING_VIOLATION_REMAP REG_DWORD 0X00000001

I'm curious on your thoughts and others regarding this...

UPHClean removes access to files or directories, a file could be corrupted. Also the process might be unable to write further data or it could cause the process to fail because it cannot read from the file. During testing this has not been found to be true but there is still a chance that it could happen. This is the reason why the remap feature is disabled by default.

The [UPHC.AddReg] section in NR_UPHC.inf should be replaced with the following tested code. The existing code was possibly broken due to bad quotation mark usage and missing escape characters. Your fix is also added.

Code: Select all

[UPHC.AddReg]
HKLM,"%RUNONCE%","UPHC-1",,"REG ADD ""HKLM\%RUNONCE%"" /v ""UPHC.1"" /t REG_SZ /d ""\""%16422%\UPHClean\uphclean.exe\"" -install"""
HKLM,"%RUNONCE%","UPHC-2",,"REG ADD ""HKLM\%RUNONCE%"" /v ""UPHC.2"" /t REG_SZ /d ""regsvr32.exe /s \""%16422%\UPHClean\uphclean.exe\"""""
; This makes the service start while windows setup
;HKLM,"%RUNONCE%","UPHC-0",,"""%16422%\UPHClean\uphclean.exe"" -install"

I have v1.1, which is still linked in the first post. :rolleyes:

I'll need a current download link for v2. MrNxDmX's latest link is dead. The addon is not posted on WinCert.

Thanks for uploading, djkc. :)

v2.0 only seems to need one line as shown below to add that fix, Cipherfx2. I have updated the release post and the addon to v2.1 on MrNxDmX's behalf. Any further updates are to be his responsibility if he has the time.

Code: Select all

[NR_UPHC]
OptionDesc	="Microsoft User Profile Helper Cleanup Service v2.0.49.0"
Tip ="UPHClean is a service that helps with profile loading and unloading problems."
Modes =0,1,2,3

Uninstall	=Uninstall.NR_UPHC
CopyFiles	=UPHC.Copy
AddReg =UPHC.AddReg

What happened to the 1.6d addon version that is officially offered my Ms?

I removed the 2.0 version because it breaks the Add Remove Windows Components after uninstalling it from there. The components wizard will no longer launch because the .inf is removed from the %windir%\inf

Why make this addon uninstallable from Windows Components if it is going to cause problems. I prefer a clean integration that doesn't need fixing at a later stage. Just my 2 cents.

I have put the details and download link for UPHC 1.6d back into the release post, adric. Technically, both versions were offered by Microsoft. Robin Caron works for Microsoft; the beta was released through their TechNet blog.

The UPHC 2.0.49.0 addon has been updated to fix the uninstall problem. You'll have to wait for MrNxDmX to reply if you want to know why it was made uninstallable. I didn't add that functionality and I can't really take responsibility for it.

Thank you 5eraph, for kindly updating my work and informing me about it.
You've been a very good working person and especially a moderator on these forums. I lost my dreams about computers, and don't want to work on them again.

Anybody can do anything with my addons without ever asking about them.

Thanks for your work and thoughtfullness again.

Cheers to all.

Oops, that was very nice to read those kind words from users like you, thanks a bunch for your words.
I'm working in a supermarket, and i havent finished my university still (till 7 years, it was a 4 year faculty-dont laugh :P). Also users in Turkish forums mostly blamed me for their silly errors in computers. And i stopped contributing in turkish forums, then i closed my internet connection at home, and cannot connect everytime, also have some financial reasons.
But I like this forum, i love those kind contributions here, also on msfn.org, also on doitrightconsulting.net, also on some other sites. I learned the power of sharing, the power of personal contribution, the power of creating and helping others. Learned a lot which i cannot tell with words.

Cheers to everybody, enjoy your life, don't let people to hurt you with their bad words, we will not born again :)

Edit: beats, sure i can do that :)

You'll always be welcome here, NR. You've been here longer than I, helped more people than I, and I've never seen a post from you written in anger. (Though I can't read Turkish. ;))

Whatever you decide to do in life, I wish you the best.

According to MS and for the essentiel needs of Citrix (Terminal Services) only
1.6g is supported. The 2.0 beta program is even on hold (see Technet blog)
http://blogs.technet.com/b/uphclean/

If someone wants it, I can post the addon I made for 1.6g.
