[Release] Media Player Classic 6.4.9.0

Post by keytotime » Tue Mar 07, 2006 9:20 pm

I'm taking over the Media Player Classic Addon. I got permission from Mr.Peel. Also with this one, I have changed the Icon to a much nicer one.

Download
md5:A5FE69B2B7ADC6C33D456235262C2B59

Note: This is not compatible with Nlite.

LOL I don't own it, so you didn't need permission :lol:

Hey have you tested this one out in a working build to confirm that it properly overwrites the native mplayer2? And did you have to mess with windows file protection or dllcache to get it working? I'd love to know how to get this thing working properly on my current win2000 nLite build. :(

Keytotime, why package the file twice without compression? Wouldnt it have been better to compress it once, and copy it twice using an .inf file ? There is another way around WFP too from what ive seen, if anyone is curious read this link. I havent personally tested this method yet tho.

If your not to interested in this package keytotime, ill give it a whirl and also try to throw in an uninstaller that keeps the old mplayer2.exe file and puts it back if you ever decide to uninstall MPC.

The only problem with the other method is, the file that needs to be edited is attributed as "Read Only". Will the RyanVM intergrator work on a file if its Read Only?

Dumb question, Thats only when its installed.

Ive been playing with the uninstaller, it seems that the only way to uninstall this and retain a working original mplayer2.exe is to remove it from the protected file list using that filelist.xml. People who want to keep Windows File Protection on, would that be a problem for you? Or would you just prefer to not have an uninstaller at all ?

Don't you think you are getting a bit too carried away with this uninstaller frenzy you have going on here?

The specific purpose for this addon is for peeps who want to REPLACE the native windows media player with this superior open source player. It therefore implies that they already know what they are doing and have no need or intention to revert back to the native mplayer2.

If you were looking at making an addon for MPC that is just a plain installation (rather than a replacement) then sure it would be appropriate to be looking at an unistaller for it, but not in this case and neither in the case of other native windows appz that we have hacked out of our builds with nLite in favour of clean open source alternatives, eg: Kels Notepad2 replacement.

<removed>RyanVM Edit: If you have a problem with someone, take it to PM.
Ooops, I already had done just that and was on my way back here to edit that last line. :oops:

@Mrs Peel, Are you using nlite or the Intergrator to intergrate this Addon. I'm using the intergrator and have no problem. About the 2 file version's I'm really sorry. Somehow I missed deleting the uncompressed version of Mplayer2.

I am using nLite cherub, and this is how my entries file looks, if that helps any:
[general]
Description =Overwrite Windows mplayer2 with Media Player Classic.
Language =English
Title =Media Player Classic
Version =6.4.8.8
Website =http://sourceforge.net/projects/guliverkli/
I have tried manually copying the MPLAYER2.EX_ file directly into my i386 folder overwriting the original before I build my ISO and it installs AOK.

I have tested this in Windows 2000 SP4, XP Pro SP2 & Windows 2003 SP1 (slipstreamed with nLite) and it's not worked on any of them. As far as I know nLite should just pick up the cab file and drop MPLAYER2.EX_ directly into i386 over the top of native version, so I'm darned if I know why that's not happening - since manual overwrite works just fine.

I even tried writing an addon that installs from an inf file and copies a second version of the file into the system32 dllcache but that was a no go also. This was my inf code for that effort FWIW....
;Media Player Classic v6.4.8.8

[Version]
Signature=$Windows NT$

[Optional Components]
MPlayerC

[MPlayerC]
OptionDesc = "Windows Media Player Replacement"
Tip = "MP Classic"
Modes = 0,1,2,3
CopyFiles = copy.cache

[SourceDisksNames.x86]
1="MPlayerC Files","MPlayerC.cab",,"i386"

[DestinationDirs]
copy.cache = 11,"%mplay_cache%"

[SourceDisksFiles]
mplayerc.exe = 1

[Copy.Cache]
mplayer2.exe,mplayerc.exe

[Strings]
mplay_cache = "dllcache"
Tres bizarre. I must be missing something so blazingly obvious that it's blinded my eyes :shock:

It could be that nLite is checking file versions and thinking that the file in the addon is older than the one on the CD. Though it should at least prompt you in that case...

I apologise for this keytotime, i didnt read your first message properly and i assumed you didnt really want to take over the mpc pack. I wont work anymore on this pack with an uninstaller, since Mrs P is right.

No Problem. I love this addon, because I use Media Player Classic for my Video's and Foobar for my Music.

Dang I hadn't even thought of that. :shock:

Is there some way I could test if that is the reason? Trick windows into thinking that it is a newer version or something like that? Isn't there a tool you can use with makecab which can spoof file information?

Oh I love these wee learning curves :D

Turn advanced reports on and nLite will ask you wether you want to replace the file with the older version or not.

All you need to do is at some point after its on your hdd run:

fullpathto\mplayerc.exe /regvid

I just scrolled back... if this addon is replacing the native mplayer2.exe you of course need to use the correct filename when you run the above command.

there is no popup window and it doesnt open the player

In this case, place it into your system32 folder and you dont need any path. just use filename.exe /regvid
