[Release] Remove MRT From RyanVM Update Pack

Post by MrNxDmX » Mon Jun 26, 2006 9:53 pm

This addon will remove "Malicious Software Removal Tool" from RyanVm Update Pack. (was asked here)
You will be prompted to install latest MRT when u go to MU/WU!.

Download:

Discontinued. See last post for more info.

File Informations:
RVM 2.1.5 MRT Remover (7zip) Size: 0.7KB Md5: 2FCFECEF52AC6D8EFFADD5FF81A6C5C6
How to use:
  • First integrate RyanVM UpdatePack into xp source, and also addons you wanted.
  • After integration completed, use integrator v1.4.2 (and above) with this addon.
NOTES:
  • If you use this addon while update pack integration, Rvmuppck.inf will be edited, mrt.exe file will be deleted as well. But dosnet.inf and txtsetup.sif entries will not be deleted. So while setting up windows, you will get an error message that MRT.EXE file couldnt be found.
  • If you use this addon while update pack integration, you will get an error message while windows setup, that MRT.EXE file cannot be copied, just ignore that message. No problems will occur, because mrt.exe file is not needed in anywhere.
  • If you use this addon after update pack integration, i mean on an update pack integrated source, everything will be fine.
I used Replace WGA-Notify with WGA-Only Addon 2.0.7a by Aserone, as reference.
Also thanks RyanVM and Zacam.

EDIT: 2006-12-17 - Updated to 2.1.5 compatible remover... Deleted all previous removers..

RyanVM hosting. Thanks Ryan!

"txtsetup.sif|MRT.exe = 100,,,,,,,2,0,0||1"

Not doubting that's how it shows up, but it really should be:

"txtsetup.sif|MRT.exe = 100,,,,,,,2,0,0||1"

Whatever is putting it into txtsetup.sif with all those spaces shouldn't be.

but it was how ryan coded it, so i put it that way. as integrator looks for the same lines...

Well, I'll be...... While it looks all nice and neat from a readability POV, it really shouldn't be that way. While windows can adapt to spaces like that, it can occasionally do odd things with them.

I _know_ it doesn't like having a space and the end of the line before it goes to the next one. And I have no idea what it thinks of all the spaces after a filename and before the "=" sign, though it doesn't like MORE than one space AFTER the "=". I find it strange that it doesn't seem to care about the ones before the "=".

I'm still thinking they shouldn't be there.

Oh please, thank you for building an addon which allows us to remove MRT, so dangerous software can mess up with our systems. ;) (No offense.)

MrNxDmX: does this addon work as expected in nlite? Or only with RVM Integrator?

I dont have official info, but as far as i know, nlite doesnt parse extra file edits section, so this kind of addons wont work with nlite.
Edit: Updated, see first post.

MrNxDmX: could you make similar addons for removing other components from original Ryan UP, like (removing/disabling):

Adobe Flash Player 9.0.28.0 ActiveX Control
Macrovision SafeDisc Driver Fix
Microsoft Qfecheck
Microsoft Web Folders
Microsoft Windows Script

I'm sure many would appreciate it.

Hi hakab. Can you give some valid reasons about them? Why do you think they are useless, or why dont you want them?
Qfecheck just works when you run it, and its just 35kb. Windows script is needed i think. Web folders also same. Maybe only fase disc driver fix, but its already in xp sp2 disc, so you should remove that too. About flash player, you will downlad it one day, as 1mb package.
Any ideas?

@MrNxDmX: ok, I think you're right about them but do you know what uses "Web folders"?

ps is your addon RVM 2.1.5 compatible? Or wait for new version of addon?

Quote from KB892211 (Description of the Software Update for Web Folders: January 25, 2005)
This article describes the Software Update for Web Folders that is dated January 25, 2005. This update fixes two issues that occur when you use Web folders from your client computer to connect to a server that supports Web Distributed Authoring and Versioning (WebDAV). Additionally, this update includes security enhancements to Web folders and adds support for URLs of Web sites that use Security Sockets Layer (SSL).
That SSL support is necessary I think. Also, web folders is already in xp disc's, it gets installed when you install your copy of xp. This is just an updated version of it. You can extract contents of Ryan's update pack, delete file "webfldrs.msi", and then repack the update pack with 7zip, winrar or winzip. Then use that modified pack. No errors will occur.
I just have trust to Ryan's work and knowledge, that he includes necessary thins. I also have added to my update pack. Its just your choice to modify his pack or not :Wink:

First post is updated with 2.1.5 compatible remover. I removed all previous removers.

You can remove the web folders update from the pack, but you're still going to have it on your CD. The joy of direct integration is that my pack is just overwriting an existing file. It's hurting nothing by being included.

This is the contents of this addon:
Entries_RVM215_MRT_Removal.ini wrote:[general]
builddate =17/December/2006
description =Remover for Malicious Software Removal Tool
language =English
title =MRT Remover
version =1.23.1634.0
website =http://www.ryanvm.net/forum/viewtopic.php?t=2460

[obsolete_files]
Mrt.exe
Mrt.ex_

[ExtraFileEdits]
RVMUpPck.inf|KB890830.AddReg,||1
RVMUpPck.inf|[KB890830.AddReg]||1
RVMUpPck.inf|HKLM,"SOFTWARE\Microsoft\RemovalTools\MRT","EULA",0x10001,1||1
RVMUpPck.inf|HKLM,"SOFTWARE\Microsoft\RemovalTools\MRT","Version",0,"621498ca-889b-48ef-872b-84b519365c76"||1
Dosnet.inf|d1,MRT.exe||1
rvmtemp\Dosnet.inf|d1,MRT.exe||1
txtsetup.sif|MRT.exe = 100,,,,,,,2,0,0||1
rvmtemp\txtsetup.sif|MRT.exe = 100,,,,,,,2,0,0||1
Now make a new text file and rename it to "Entries_WhatEverYouWant.ini"
Continue reading to update this addon to newest version of mrt:

You see that yellow numbers. After installing the new mrt tool, open Regedit.exe and go to key "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\RemovalTools\MRT" and copy the version number in the right panel. Then paste in the entries.ini file. Then compress it with a name containing "addon" in the name and use it.

I no longer see any reason to remove mrt from ryan's update pack. I removed link. And wont add it again. Please, somebody lock this topic.
Thank you
