XP SP3

Post by the_guy » Thu Oct 19, 2006 8:53 am

Guess what? According to the Service Pack Lifecycle page, XP SP3 is not due out until 1H 2008. Guess Ryan will be making a ton more update packs for XP SP2 (maybe 1 or 2 GB?). Also, 2003 SP2 is not expected to be released until Q1 2007.

1 or 2 GB? I beg to differ... besides there is this limitation for .cat files (150?). I hope MS will release an update rollup in the meantime, 2008 jezus... It used to be 2H 2007.

Maybe the 1-2GB was a bit overboard.

I thought the 150 cat file limit was just for the same file.

It used to be. Microsoft silently updated the page on Tuesday.

So Ryan can pass this limitation by releasing e.g. 2 seperate update packs? Hmm. Yes I noticed the "Last Updated: October 17, 2006" status. :)

The 150 CAT limitation is easily solved by MS, all they need to do is merge all the CATs into 1 huuge CAT file (like SP2.CAT) and then we'll be back to only a handful of CATs again..., which is what they do as standard in every Service Pack...
