[Release] Royale Noir addon

Postby Kelsenellenelvian » Sun Oct 29, 2006 11:51 pm

v1.2 Has the normalcolor folder renamed properly.

This is a official MS variation of Royale and as such does not need uxtheme.dll patching. It includes 2 color options Royale and Royale Noir.

ricktendo64 and I choose a nice dark variation of Bliss to go with it:

Finally, a black taskbar that looks like it was designed for Windows XP and not a bastard child of Vista. Good find, ricktendo64!

As always, Kel, great work with the addon. This looks like it could go well with the black LOGONUI mod found here: [Release] Black Media Center Edition Logonui

I'm currently working at porting (if I get permissions) Morph's [Noir] for Litestep over to an msstyle.

I think I like LE5.05 black, but this a decent find indeed for a machine where you cannot patch teh UXTheme, so I'm definately saving it. :) Thanks R64 for finding it, Thanks Kel for packaging it!

Kelsenellenelvian:
Will this interfer with your other official royale addon if I integrated both this and that one?

Installing both will not cause problems. They don't interfere with each other and both are accessible after Windows installation.

I went so far as to merge them into a single addon for my own personal use.

I don't like the way it looks from the Noir theme either, but it doesn't overwrite the files in Kel's original addon so they're both still usable.

Here's the unified INF I created. You should be able to see how I merged the CABs from this.

Code: Select all

[Version]
signature="$CHICAGO$"

[Optional Components]
Royale_Complete

[Royale_Complete]
OptionDesc = "Royale Complete"
Tip        = "Royale Complete"

Royale Noir.theme,Noir.the

[theme.metallic]

[theme.noir]
metal_ss.dll

[web.wallpaper]
EnergyBliss.jpg,Energy.jpg
EnergyBliss Dark.jpg,Noir.jpg
Saturn's Moon - Titan.jpg,Titan.jpg

[Strings]
Metallic  = "Resources\Themes\Royale Noir\Shell\Metallic"

Noir      = "Resources\Themes\Royale Noir\Shell\Normal"
Shell     = "Resources\Themes\Luna\Shell\Royale"
Themes    = "Resources\Themes"
Wallpaper = "web\Wallpaper"

As you can see, I renamed the wallpaper Kel included and am using one of my own. Here's a screenshot of the wallpaper I'm using with it. Looks great with WMP11. :)

It's a NASA photo of Saturn's moon Titan as seen through the rings. I can't remember the original dimensions, but the picture wasn't very large. I cropped just enough off to make the dimensions 4:3 to preserve the image quality. It hasn't been resized or otherwise altered. This wallpaper is 912x684 at 24-bit color. Looks best when stretched to fit the display and even looks good when stretched to fit a 2048x1536 display without noticable pixellation.

I noticed there is a redundant shellstyle.dll in the package ->metal_ss.dll/metal.dll since only one can be used right?

Anyway, I was wondering if someone can help package my version? Link

There is one shellstyle for each color choice.

The metall_ss.dll is for the Blue normal royale and the shellstyle.dll is for royale noir.

I deleted the metal_ss.dll because both looked identical, same as the original royale one. If you are using a .theme file, you will only be referencing one of them, right?

The differences I see between royale and royale noir colors are defined in the .msstyle file where the bitmaps are stored. The version I have is still be able to switch between royale and royale noir colors. If I made a mistake in deleting it, let me know so I can correct it, thanks.

It makes it so there is no shellstyle for Royale you should put it back. (they looked the same but if you open them with reshacker you will see one has blue bitmaps and the other has black bitmaps) rhwy are for the right side sections of explorer windows.

Here is the addon you requested...

www.wpiw.net/downloads/Themes_Kels_Roya ... ddon_1.cab

Size 278 kb MD5Hash = E17FCF1FC14F4709154613F65750065B

P.S. I included both shellstyles in it...

It just hit me, in the original file from istarteddsomething, the file I deleted is named metal_ss.dll which wouldn't show up the taskpane graphics anyway. In the cab tou made for me, it is renamed to shellstyle.dll after it's copied right?

Yep, Yep.
Addon makers have to rename the files with the same name so they dont ovrewrite each other, you see theres more than one Shellstyle.dll

Okay, just double confirming. In case the cab followed the original structure of the file from istartedsomething.com. Thanks.

All toolbar settings, including WMP11 and Quick Launch, are located in the value "TaskbarWinXP" at this key:

Code: Select all

HKCU,"Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Streams\Desktop"

Just export the value from RegEdit after setting them the way you like and apply it during your install. Credit goes to dgelwin for finding this tweak.

Just one thing about noir.inf, Kel....

Code: Select all

[theme.noir]
metal_ss.dll

Shouldn't it be something more like this........?

Code: Select all

[theme.noir]
shellstyle.dll,metal_ss.dll

[s]It works perfectly fine as is, marzsyndrome, in Kelsenellenelvian's addon and my own. The source files from i started something are laid out the same. I do not know why.[/s]

Hmmm, ok. It's just I always assumed that a typical style would only work correctly if the DLL was named exactly "shellstyle.dll".

Ah, but wait! It appears I just discovered something very interesting....

I'm not sure if you all knew, but one thing shellstyle.dll appears to do is determine how the Common Tasks section of your explorer window (if you enabled it) should look graphic-wise.

With metal_ss.dll left as it is, Common Tasks in Royale look like this:
Image

Whereas if you rename metal_ss.dll to shellstyle.dll, you get this:
Image

So perhaps it is a little naming error after all chaps? :P

Umm. I just realized the problem. More than one thing was named wrong. The folder Normal should be NormalColor. That's according to the file on the source website, which has a new link.

Your addon is still broken, Kels. Mine is too at the moment. ;)
