[Release] Windows Vista Games AIO (ported to XP)

Post by MrNxDmX » Tue Jan 16, 2007 7:09 am

These addons were requested here

I currently have 7 games that can run under Windows XP. If you do know how to patch vista RTM games, I can make them as addons.

A small explanation: All games are in English language. Game exe's are all version 1.0.0.1. These games don't run in Vmware and onboard vga cards. You need a 3d supported graphics card.
I didnt patch them, also dont know which vista build they are from (Maybe build 52XX) . They are just made an addon by me. But as far as I understand, these games are patched by Rafael & ZoRoNaX. So, credits go them about game files.

As all of you know, Minesweeper and Shanghai games wouldnt run because of some errors we dont know. Users ddSHADOW and orcoxp came with an idea, using a cmd file. That cmd file first will delete error making files, then will launch the game. And, I used that cmd file for both Minesweeper and Shanghai games. When you click their shortcuts in "Start Menu/Vista Games", first cmd file will launch, you will see it pop-up in a second then disappear, then the game will start. Because of this error, no statistics are shown, also no settings are saved.
Also, I got Purble Place game from orcoxp's addon. Thanks for sharing.

And about the addons. They wont be shown in "Add/Remove Programs" unless you select "Show Updates" thing on top.
Take a look: Image

All addons are uninstallable. These 7 addons are made to run with Main Addon. Main addon includes runtime file. When you will uninstall all, remove Main addon last. Main addon will delete shortcut dir (Start Menu\Vista Games), and the dll file. It will remove "%USERPROFILE%\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft Games" directory, that game files creates, as well.

Ok, here what I found after reading orcoxp's post here

After running minesweeper, it creates 2 xml files in:
%usersprofile%\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft Games\Minesweeper
named windowprefs.xml and MinesweeperSettings.xml
when you restart minesweeper, it gives an error. But if you delete the MinesweeperSettings.xml file, and launch the game, it works. But when you restart the error happens again.
Maybe a cmd file can be used to delete that file, that I can easily put in startmenu, or I can remove that game. What do you think?

Also, I see that games are using "%usersprofile%\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft Games" directory to store data and settings-preferences, also a folder named "Microsoft Games" is created in My Documents, that is used to store game saves. Do you want me to make the addon remove those folders or let it like this?

okay, i tested it on a running system.

Works fine for me, but there are some things to say:
- No game saves the highscores
- Nothing is saved in "My Documents\Microsoft Games" so i think it could be deleted
- is it normal that you are asked to choose diffyculty on start? (minesweeper)

I think a cmd like orcoxp's to delete the minesweeper file would be okay ;)

Two questions:
1. How can I translate the games into another language?
Do I have to get & copy the Files from e.g. "\Game\de-DE" to "Microsoft Games\Game\de-DE"??

2. Are your addons nLite compatible? (this & UAP)

Wow, lots of questions, lets get to work.

Thanks for confirmation that it works for you.
-I havent played much with them, you may be right. But dont forget, these are ported from vista to XP. There is no rule that, they will perfectly work.
-If you dont save anything, I mean, if you dont save a game, "My Documents\Microsoft Games" will be empty. But, try saving a game, then re-check that folder. There will be a folder with the name of the game and a save file in it.
-Its very normal that the game asking the diffuculty. It happens in soliatire too.

and about questions:
1) Is there a way to translate these? I dont know :( But if you try that mothod you described, or find a new method, we will be glad to hear.

2) This addon and other addon should work with nlite. Didnt try, though. I will be glad to hear your experience.

Okay the "My Documents" stuff was my fold! How could I be so stupid not to save a game ... *no comment*
---> don't delete this folder, it's jused and works fine
---> solitaire, freecell, hearts & spider solitaire are working fine by [exit & don'T save] and [exit & save] -> continue

same error from Minesweeper in Shanghai on every 2nd run:
start Shanghai, play it, exit it -> next 2 runs = 2errors -> SolitaireOptions.xml & SolitaireStats.xml (in Shanghai folder) deleated(deleats itself on error message) one by another -> works fine, just ur settings are away.

-> statistics is not shown, not highscore but statistic is not shown, sorry

diffyculty is just asked by minesweeper.

What I did in the pack I made a few months ago was to build the fix.batch into the shortcut.

Code: Select all

[Minesweeper.Shortcut]
Name       = "Vista Minesweeper"
CmdLine    = 24,%Minesweeper%,Minesweeper.bat
WorkingDir = 24,%Minesweeper%
SubDir     = %LINK_DIR%
Infotip    = "Vista Minesweeper"
IconPath   = 24,%Minesweeper%,Minesweeper.exe
This will give the link of the batch file but the icon of the Game.

Code: Select all

RD /S /Q "%USERPROFILE%\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft Games\Minesweeper"
start /i Minesweeper.exe
This is the batch file...you don't need the path in the batch file if you have the working directory in the shortcut

Keep in mind that this points to a folder outside of the program files folder and you will have to modify it.

My pack also includes Purble Place...so it's considerably larger.

Ok, thanks for your replies guys. I think sth, and will give a try. We will just click a shortcut and it will delete the files then launch the game. (as what ddSHADOW did, credits belongs him)

And, orcoxp, where did you find those files? Or, can you share Purble Place for adding it this pack, too?

Purble Place is very big it will make the addon go beyond 100 MB!!!!! LOL the biggest addon so far

btw good work buddy, but i have a suggestion
why don't u make separate addons for all games
coz u know *cough* 69 MB is BIG!!

and then we will have the freedom of installing only those games which we require :-)

Yeah, I have an idea that I'm working on. All games will be as seperate addons, and there will be one main pack. And all will be uninstallable. I will wait for purble place.

Hey NR you might want to wait. The new VAIO is coming out and im planning to separate it from the sidebar so single addons like these can be made.

All you will need to do is simply have VAIOXP installed on your PC, then Pre-Patch games exe files and wrap them up into addons and recomend that they require the VAIO addon to function.

Looking for chess game, or a tutorial for how to port chess from vista. (I have vista running in evaluation version)

ok, here is the final. Most of the job are done. Just making modifications. There are 8 addons. First one will be required for all games. Then 7 game addon packs. That are uninstallable, and removing dirs created by that addons.
Main addon will be uninstallable too. That will remove the dll file, and shortcut dir from start menu, and also %USERPROFILE%\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft Games" dir from system. I wont touch "My Documents\Microsoft Games" folder.
But you know, my connection is very slow, and these files are too big. Upload will be in 2 days, have to go school for this :(

PS: Windows vista wallpapers coming too. Thats 43,3MB :shock:

OK, at last its done. First post is modified. Addons are uploaded. Test is done. Just your feedbacks are missing :P

These will be great in my DVD XP. Thanks for idea rubab. I will update AIO pack too, but not sure about that. All addons are compatible with each other, and no need for AIO IMO. Maybe I will delete it.

@ phiron: I fotgot to mention that, games dont run in vmware and onboard vga cards. No need to make switchless, you can do what orcoxp said. But dont forget to copy inf files to "C:\windows\inf". So, uninstall can work.

And, what about others? Any errors? :P

All games are updated in order to correct info links.
There was a typo in Solitaire Addon, its corrected now.

All in one pack is updated too. Contains 2 addons. Total size is 127MB. Not yet tested.

Will inform you when I make a test. I will be glad if you can test them.

Thats all from me. If you can patch vista rtm games, I can make them as addon. Or if you know a way to patch vista rtm games, I can do that for you.

The AIO's size is big because of Purble Place. It is 58,7mb as a seperate addon. But, I have vista rtm games here. And all of their size is; 7zip compressed:66,9MB, uncompressed 88,4MB. This is all 9games.
Rick told me how I can patch them vith VAIO. Only with a legit Vista RTM key :(
I tried my RC1 key, that I had taken from microsoft, but no help...

Hi! Thanks for these excellent Vista games. I have integrated games to xp cd with nLite. No installation problems. Bu when I tried to run them they gave the message "Vista Emulation dll" not found. And no problem I got it from internet and put it in system32 folder and everything is ok. My question is how can I put this dll to my xp installation cd so that later I don't have to put it system32 folder manually?
Thanks for these addons and for the others too...

LMAO RaGhul. Its already in addons.

@ Ironeagle: If you used the All in One pack, it contains the emulation.dll file. But if you used seperate addons, you must add Base addon too. I have written this in first post. They require base addon to be installed. Also, when you are uninstalling, you must uninstall base addon last. It will delete all folders, registry entries and files created by games.
