[Release] TaskKill AddOn v1.0 from XP Pro

I've noticed that a lot of add-ons seem to want to run TASKKILL before actually uninstalling their software. I'm running XP Home Edition, which does not contain TASKKILL.EXE as a standard component. So, I wrote an add-on to add the program to your Windows CDs.

NOTE: Repacked add-on so that original packed TASKKILL.EX_ is packaged so that optimzed ISOs are a little smaller.

Thanks, this is a great AddOn; especially if you have XP Home and use some INF addons. I cant seem to get TSKILL to work on my PC so I'm reluctant to switch from TASKKILL in my uninstall scripts.

Yeh, that was a terrible oversight on our part that was only recently bought to our attention by Mitsuko Aninikkou.

I am currently working my way through the addons I recently built uninstallers for and rewriting the killprocess section to use tskill instead so they are properly compatible for XP Home and I expect other addon makers who've been using the taskkill will also be doing the same.

I should hopefully have all mine fixed up by the end of the week, but thanks for thinking to release this to help members who have already downloaded releases still using the taskkill.

Cheers,
;)

PS: TSKILL works perfectly OK for me here on Windoze 2003 Server on every running application that I have tried it on so far during my uninstaller testing process.

It only works for me when I use the Process ID, but that sucks because the PID is always different each time you run the program.

Example RunPreSetupCommands:

Code: Select all

TSKILL USDownloader.exe ;Fails

Code: Select all

TSKILL 3000 ;<- PID Works
This has puzzeld me, I tried all sorts of switches I found using /? and I AM sure I have tskill.exe in system32 but I cannot get this to work right.

TSkill won't work if you add a file extension to the program name. I do it like this and it works:

Code: Select all

[KillProcess]
tskill USDownloader

So, is this add-on really needed? If not, I'll remove the link and file.....

Yes its always good to have, I don't plan on updating ALL my addons just yet but I will slowly phase TASKKILL out for TSKILL but it will take some time.

IMO this is a good addon either way.
