[Method] SpeedUp!

Postby ENU_user » Sun Jan 20, 2008 10:50 pm

SpeedUp1 \ loading pre-expanded drivers needed to boot the install and through out the setup!
SpeedUp2 / telling the boot process not to load SCSI drivers into the setup cache

Looking into this addon: you may edit ",noload" to any drivers you won't require loading during texmode. They will remain available during device installs. where the actual setup begins ..

1. the post DriverPacks Slipstream speedup addon is the same as the other, but its intended for those who slipstream the MassStorage driverpack
which actually adds more drivers to load during the text mode stage, with this method of editing the ",noload" to some of these drivers the expected results in having a smaller number of drivers loading during the text mode thus stopping these drivers from being loaded = reducing the time required for loading them ...

2. using file expands: besides the file expands for the MassStorage devices ...
the other files expands prooved to speedup noticeably the "text mode" along with any of the devices that are responsible for loading the actual "text mode" portion ...

Also, will this work if you use driverpack's sata drivers?

enu user... since you're very good at this.. can you investigate how to remove SCSI drivers from loading?

u see, sparrow.sys -- i dont think this is required in most systems.... all those SCSI adapters are pretty useless for 99.9% of installations

removing them should be able to speed up the preboot process a lot faster

Hi ENU_user, I hope you dont mind me asking this potentially stupid question, but what does this addon do exactly? Does it speed up the early DOS based part of the Windows install?

@ jamesdean, sorry it doesn't

@ biatch added old sata drivers not to load as you requested

@ stimpy it will definitely speed up the early DOS based part of the Windows install as you called it
and it is basicly an implementation of what you can read more about here

now, with implementing biatch's request we just made the drill a complete one ...

another thing, this includes siginets find , which drove me in making this addon and to test it with "optimize system files" which now wont re compress any of these files due to new appended edits in this addon ....

updated!.

@Zacam, its all in the title ;)

@dolivas, i think you're files are a bit messed up ,this shouldn't be a problem with the integrator. ... for that you should start over to check the probability of messed up files. as this shouldn't be a problem with the integrator or in this addon.
try it with a new integration and if the problem persist bring it up once again @ siginets RC release testing threads..

@Outbreaker, i guess you can ,shouldn't be a problem.

Refer to http://siginetsoftware.com/forum/showpo ... ostcount=4

I'm not very sure if the following files are still needed.

atapi = "IDE CD-ROM (ATAPI 1.2)/PCI IDE Controller"
cbidf2k = "CardBus/PCMCIA IDE Miniport Driver"
i2omp = "Intelligent I/O Controller"

Refer to the post, there are references of these files in dosnet.inf and scsi.load scsi sections in txtsetup and elsewhere too within txtsetup.sif

You're the expert though, so.. It's better I give my worries and you make the judgement. If I may add, if it's impossible to remove them from the cd, due to certain conflicts, maybe we could just tell it not to load. Of course it's nice to remove it though. In fact, I'd really like to remove most of everything from default cd. Strip it as bare as possible.

this addon now includes only edits to stop SCSI drivers from loading into the setups cache.
with the idea of achieving this without the need to remove or extensively edit anything.

for removing all those entries, files and all the involved bits ..you really should turn to nlite.
it will take care of all those entries and delete the drivers physically.

I am still considering using nlite, ive tried it a few times, but my windows did not install through properly, often getting stuck at a period.. i forgot when it was... i think it was 40mins or 32mins .... i just know it hung somewhere there.

Mind telling me if its possible to use nlite to remove features first before integrating addon packs? I'd like to keep a source of nlite'd removed stuff.

have you updated it btw to reflect your last post changes. Without version attached to the naming its hard to tell. its at 1723 bytes now.

also, please advice if this time i can integrate it along with other stuff, doesnt necessarily need to be the last addon... and if i can tick optimize system files along with it.

of course you can remove anything you wish ,and save the source, in one condition that you wont go adding things that are based on stuff that was previously removed and expect them to work ;)

take the time to make you're selections with the removals don't use the ones that have warnings in descriptions, save the settings to a tamplete name of you're choice so if anything goes wrong you can load and apply changes
remember to save each time
good luck!
---------------------------------------------
as for the addon: you can use it with "optimize system files" now! .and integrate it in combo with other addons in selections (the issue was recently fixed!) and the addon is updated ;)

I personally would like to see more about what this addon is doing, or should I say removing.

I wonder if it would be possible to post a list of all drivers that are available, and a list of those that have been removed, then maybe we can all discuss and test if any other drivers could be removed?

Just a thought, please don´t flame me 8)

* dolivas i have updated the Hashes. thanks again!

* Stimpy we aren't removing anything with this addon & it isn't made for that purpose
the edits in the entries file adds a ",noload" to the end of each driver
so we are only telling the boot process not to load any SCSI drivers listed into the setup cache
with the probability that most guys are not going to need or use these drivers loaded at that point

Hi ENU_user, I really meant removed from Windows Setup rather than removed from the disc, excuse my bad English

I was just wondering if we could "noload" more than just SCSI drivers, as I assume that the more drivers get "noloaded", the faster Textmode setup will run.

This could turn in to an interesting project to find the total bare minimum drivers to load, as there seems to be so many during textmode setup that have no place on a modern, home built PC.

i don't think there are other drivers that can be added to the ",noload list other then the ones included in this addon

the ",noload edits are typically for the SCSI ones, the other drivers are needed by the setup to run without error

but, if there are any other drivers that can be added or im missing ,make a note of them and i will add them in ..

hey i been using this addon (which was great) with the latest rvmi v1.5 rc7c and it seems to fail at its job

now i'm not sure if it's rvmi's fault or whether the addon needs to be updated

it worked in 1.5 betas but since i think rc1

i've put a log up here
http://siginetsoftware.com/forum/showpo ... stcount=14

could you have a look for me.

is there a way i could do the same via just the cmd?

you can check if the MD5 hush match

I cant see anything on that log pointing that the fault is caused by this ...
yes, you can add the delete part to the cmd file if thats what you wanted

only make sure lines in keydelete section match with the "same" on txtsetup, note empty spaces after/before the "=" if different you will need to adjust that manually, also because nlite may change the spaces count around "="

It would depend on what programs you are using galileo. SP3 was delayed due to an "issue" with one of their current programs. Expect a quick fix for that program and then SP3 being released.

If you were referring to this topic on 'speeding up' the install, then there are not any present issues with SP3 and using the methods described to have XP not load certain drivers during text mode.

its finally changed to better support DriverPacks
should have looked into this before ,but didn't really get to it.

hopefully now its fully compatible with DP and will speedup the MassStorage files added by DP as well :D

note: for any MassStorage files newly added , this will need to be accommodated in the addon ...
