I couldn't find this anywhere. I kept searching for "WGAV" assuming that's what it would be called. I'm happy I bumped into this. Thanks a bunch!

Thanks, looks like this will replace the other 2 options I was using as these were not updated to the most recent WGAV

Ryans WGA addon is at the same level and was released a week before this one.

Xables addon is also at the current level.

Just a point of information.

This is v1.8.31.9 of LegitCheckControl.dll (Validation) only, Ryan released WGAN (the one that holds your system hostage) a day after this.

I know this is a much repeated question in numerous threads so forgive me as I only want to be sure before I integrate my latest CD but since I am using 100% legit corporate versions am I OK to use this WGA instead of the xable WGAN which I have been using? Will I be able to perform all my MS updates, downloads etc?

You need only WGA Validation Tool for those, which is what my addon is: ONLY Validation. Notifications serves zero purpose.

WGA Validation is KB892130
WGA Notifications is KB905474
They are still two separate programs, KB905474 just contains a newer version of the validation tool.

Thanks for the reply redxii... I just did a test integration using your update pack and a 2nd step which included additonal addons and your WGA as well... I take it then than when I see the KB905474 showing up as a high priority update their is no need for me to actually update and I can ignore it...

Can anyone explain the difference to me between Redxii's version (here) and RogueSpear's WGAV Addon V1.7.69.2 (http://www.doitrightconsulting.net/foru ... ?f=8&t=339)? The contents vary so significantly between the two that Redxii's doesn't appear to be just an updated version.

* red uses the DLL's self-registration to register (usually a better idea)
* rs manually registers the DLL

* both add (optional) registry keys to indicate that KB892130 is installed; the info rs adds can be seen in add/remove programs, and the info red adds can be seen by programs like Everest or qfecheck... none of these keys are necessary to the function of WGAV, and none of these keys are used to detect if WGAV is installed

* rs includes some vestigial files from the install (the .cat file and wgacust.dll) (the cat file only signs the INF, but the original INF is not used in either addon, and the WGA DLL itself has an embedded signature, so the cat file serves no purpose) (wgacust appears to be a helper installation dll)
My addons: CmdOpen - HashCheck - Notepad2 - MS Runtimes - DirectX

@km7mk: use mine's OGA silent updater/first time installer. OGA_1.7.111.0 (sice:339 KB md5:A3552B566F0A0112DCA83D905509DF15)
works with office update/internet explorer. this not include firefox oga plugin.

and this is a combined silent updater/first time installer for both IE and FF OGA DLL-plugin (size:405 KB md5:4985CE368151FDFEAF5DE05A3DA3EA84)
Firefox must to be allready instaled into %programfiles%\Mozilla Firefox folder or FF plugin will not be installed.

It seems that there are new entries in the registry with version 1.9.40.0. It looks like this (what does the MAC adress of the ethernet card do here ? :shock: ).

Code: Select all

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows Genuine Advantage]
"EulaState"=dword:00000002
"EulaVersion"="1.9.40.0"
"GSSS"=dword:00000000
"MAC"="00-0C-29-8C-53-21;"
"UGD"="{CAABD596-2FFF-47CD-B8B4-5BB261E5963F}"
"InstallID"="{30F230D0-7940-499e-8A01-748682288985}"

They announced this a couple of days ago:
http://blogs.msdn.com/wga/archive/2009/ ... p-pro.aspx

@Lucius

I assume that those keys are just for WGAN and not for WGAV?

Oh yes, probably.

I've tried to update myself redxii's addon (like i usually do) with the new version but the update keeps showing in Windows Update. So i tried to find the new registry keys with RegSnap, and that's how i found those i posted. There are also more stuff but i'm not sure it must be added.

redxii will probably find the solution ...

I did find a solution to hiding WGAN.

And WGAV has also some of those registry keys. Some are WGAV, some are WGAN. LegitCheckControl.dll is a self-registering dll, and is the method I use so those aren't set by me.

Um, WGAV is (and has always been) an extremely simple and straightforward copy-and-register install. There are no registry keys of any sort to add.

What you see in WU is WGAN; I don't know how WU checks for WGAN (it might not even be a registry check, in which case you can't fool it by adding some keys here and there), but it's really not worth the effort to get rid of it; just ignore it. In any case, this thread is about WGAV, not about WGAN.

Edit: Typed up this post before red posted his. red, what is the WGAN-hiding method that you discovered? The only one I'm aware of is the old tell-WU-to-hide-it-and-then-save-the-WU-config method...

I'm using this order 1: install office (2k3), 2. run this tool to add/register OGACheckControl.dll 3. validate office.
Adding and registering OGACheckControl.dll give you acces to office genuine downloads, do not solve/repair your problems with automatic office updates.
- validation - start internet explorer (or use second link to install firefox plugin too) and validate your office. Don't forget, you need a valid licence key!
- about authzax.dll - my office 2k3 allready contains this file (FILES\PFILES\MSOFFICE\OFFICE11\authzax.dll) I'm not prompted do download it.
This file are installed to %programfiles%\Microsoft Office\OFFICE11\Authzax.dll.
Maybe you have slimed down your office kit, or you have install using some transform that not add this file to install?
EDIT: if you have more questions, send me an PM, I don't want to hijackm redxii's thread !

I have an existing install where WGAV install failed or was not integrated into my unattended DVD as I thought. Is there a way to apply this, that is, run the addon from the desktop of and existing install?

Ok I read thru the INF and entries_ini and I think all I need to do is these steps:

1. rename the DLL to legitcheckcontrol.dll and copy it to system32
2. right click on the INF file and choose install

Does that sound correct?

Only thing I am not sure of is if I need to manually remove all the entries in
HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Updates\WGA\SP0\KB892130\Filelist\0
before INF install

Okay that did not seem to work, that is, right clicking on the INF and choosing install. It did nothing and no registry entries where made. I also tried removing the existing ones first.

I guess my next attempt would be to just convert the INF to a REG file. But I am unsure on this line:
HKLM,"%XPUPDATES%\WGA\SP0\KB892130\Filelist\0","Location",0x0,"%11%
What is %11% ?

Also what is the function of these registry entries in ..\Updates?

Okay figured it out. So in case anyone needs to do this manually here is the reg entries.
Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Updates\WGA]

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Updates\WGA\SP0]

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Updates\WGA\SP0\KB892130]
"InstalledDate"="Version 1.9.40.0"
"InstalledBy"="Redxii WGAV AddOn"
"Type"="Update"

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Updates\WGA\SP0\KB892130\Filelist]

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Updates\WGA\SP0\KB892130\Filelist\0]
"FileName"="LegitCheckControl.dll"
"Version"="1.9.40.0"
"BuildDate"="Tue Mar 10 22:18:20 2009"
"BuildCheckSum"="1773c1"
"Location"="C:\\WINDOWS\\system32"

; For hiding WGAN
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows Genuine Advantage]
"InstallID"="{30F230D0-7940-499e-8A01-748682288985}"
And you also need to register the DLL:
regsvr32 %windir%\system32\legitcheckcontrol.dll

/me thinks this would be a good candidate for release as a switchless installer. I include WGAV on my discs as a switchless INF-based installer (in part because I'm the biggest cheerleader for switchless on this forum :)). But it's useful because I can use my installer to update live systems as well. And since this DLL is not needed during setup itself and since it does not replace any files already in the CD, there's no disadvantage to going down this route.

You're usually not required to have the absolute latest version of LegitCheckControl.dll, if MS wants you to validate with a newer version, you'll know. If you installed it via the browser there should be an entry in Downloaded Program Files, you can update from there.

A simple batch script might also work.. unregister old version, copy new one, register new one.
