Making .7z files a bust! :(

Hi:

I was attempted to make some .7z files which a new experiment on my part as I have gotten the hang of making CAB files somewhat sucessfully. All of this was tested in VMware.

I made the following CABs and .7z files.

All but the following four installed:

Since I'm not familiar on how to make ini files so I basically unzipped someone elses .7z Java file and followed their example but neither the Java nor the Net Framework were anywhere to be found when I checked Program files or Revo uninstaller just to be sure.

Of course the Windows Live didn't install because of the conflict with the KB…. file so I wasn't surprised about that but thought I'd give it a try anyway.

The UxStyle didn’t install because as I read on their site (after the fact) it’s not meant to included in other people’s installer packs. I had to install it manually but the UxStyle and that software is really cool.

Since I followed the example of that other person’s Java .7z file, I thought that mine would work too but alas it didn’t .

As for the Net Framework .7z file that was a test too that also failed miserably.

Wait a minute before I forget. The Windows Live file didn't install but it the install process was visible whereas the the Java and Net Framework were non-existent as if I hadn't integrated them at all.

Any help would be appreciated.

That's a common problem. Try following: KB555375

what may also help is maybe posting your ini and/or inf files to see if there are any errors.

Don't base your work on my java addon if that is the one you used...

ALOT more work goes into it then just 7z'ing some files an adding a config...

That link you gave me was to a this Microsoft website "Suggestions for asking a question on help forums". Are you trying to tell me something?

HOW are you building the 7z file?

Are you just adding the premade packages?

I'm afraid unless you give us a step-by-step on how you built your .7z files we will be unable to show you where you went wrong and why. Is what you posted above your complete .ini files for the mentioned apps? How about the .inf files? What OS were these for? (Doesn't hurt to make sure what we're talking about.) Then where did you put the .7z files to try and get them to install? Any error messages? What tools did you use to both make and install the apps?

Yes, what I posted is my complete forumla for .ini files. INF files??? I didn't have any .inf files...I thought .inf files were just what you looked for when trying to slipstream drivers into Nlite but I guess I was wrong.

My operating system is Windows XP Professional Service Pack 3. I used 7zip to make the .7z files. I slipstreamed the .7z files into my OS using Nlite. have had some sucess at making driverpacks using Driverpack Base to slipstream into my Test OS and wonder if maybe I should have tried to use Driverpack Base to slipstream the .7z file I made. Hmm.

As far as my process in making the .7z files I attempted to make the steps I took are as follows.

1. Get the .exe file

2. Make a folder called svcpack and place the executable file inside it.

3. Create an .ini file based on the example of other .ini files from downloaded .7z files

4. Highlight both the svcpack folder as well as the .ini file and create the .7z file (from the both of them combined)

If there are more steps to making .7z files than the steps I described above then I don't know them and that's probably why I'm having problems.

I suppose I could just add premade packages by someone else but I like to make my own. As far as how I accomplish that, I take the following steps:

These exe files are very modified and worked on by us to MAKE them work and install silently...

You CANNOT use the bare .exe from the official websites for the 4 programs your are trying to install...

now that makes sence.
that is why your cab & .7z addons do not work.
you could do it the way you are but you need to know the proper switches
to install the programs to place in the enries.ini file....

"-ai" "-ai1" will NEVER work on a stock exe file as those are
from modified installers built with the 7zsd.sfx module.
