Given that MS is about to push XP into Extended support and only release security fixes, I'd say wait till then. Do a roll up and call it quits there.

Should only be hotpatches from there in.

Add in WMP11, IE8 and bobs your uncle.

(oh mebbe Messenger 8.5 instead of that 2009 monstrosity)

You know maybe this isnt that bad. Then moved the SP1 patch file to my filebase.... and waited. And waited. And went and got a c...

Ta. will definatly make things easier. Shame MS havent flagged and fixed this. They pulled the SP once. Why they didnt fix this i dont know. Further checking reveals that it was reported multiple times in beta.

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/KB898461 apparently released july 05. Now appears to be mandatory? It just got pushed to my new SP3 build. Wierd how an update this old is showing up now. Re: Thank You

I have tried several attempts with SP3 and have had issues with many automatic services not starting, missing shortcuts, IE7 non existent... basically a failed install. So I am happy (I guess) to stick with good ole SP2. I like to help but I'm running out of steam with SP3. Thanx for keeping SP2 al...

/me grumbles... Teach me to not look deeper in forums. Ta very much for that. I'll tweak and sort it. Any idea if this will become a perment patch? Its rather annoying. I am rather peeved that MS didnt catch this. If it was reported in beta it should have been fixed but hey... Left hand Right hand.....

napclientprov.mof

http://www.msfn.org/board/lofiversion/index.php/t116114.html Tomcat76Apr 29 2008, 02:35 PM Found the problem. MS decided to change wbemoc.inf at the last minute. It contains references to napclientprov.mof and napclientschema.mof in the copy section which wbemoc.inf from SP3 RC2 does not contain. I ...

i suggest to rebuild your image completely.

Before you do so run MemTest thou. I had this issue and it was down to bad/flaky memory which had corrupted the image as i built it.

check your memory.
check all md5 sums.
Rebuild the image and go again.
Nice you got free "upgrade". Glad you solved it.
Well. not really upgrade. my main machine is a DDR1 so really it needs fast ram at tight timings to get it motering. hence my older PC3200 ram at 2-2-2-11 timings beat the pants off the PC4000 stuff they sent me. its r...
