@5eraph: Friend, I've never see something like this happen before, but I simply cannot find you in the member database. However, I've asked xper to try and locate you on the backup. @Acheron: My implementation of Geoff Chappell's patch uses just 2 minutes for the timeout. I never found a machine needing more than that, but I guess it also depends on number of cores, processor speed and amount of RAM available, so that YMMV. Glat to know it works OK for you, too. And with a 5x l...

I'll refrain from deploying it on the machines I administer.
The worse part of it is that those updates are cumulative, so probably even the next win32k.sys will also be a problem, unless MS explicitly states it has been fixed... which ought to happen... eventually.

Just to provide an alternative, since these are uncommon tools and it's always good to have alternatives, there's also Jupiter's ImageRemCert, at Woodmann's, for the same purpose, and it does not require VS 2008 C++ runtimes for working.

MSFN is down again today Aug 24 since at least 21:15 h (UTC), if not before. It was online 18 h ago.
For a brief time it reported it is in "maintenance mode", so I think it was taken down by xper for tweaking, instead of just crashing, like in recent past.

KB981792 , despite the KB article saying (in the "Applies to" section) it applies only to WES 2009, is a Win XP Hotfix, too, but it'll not install as downloaded, because there's a IsWinEmbedded condition in the .inf... Repackaging after removing that condition is required to create a Win XP hotfix,...
