I wonder if that native behaviour can be changed to supress that first time connection launch?
I noticed that Windows Media Player also does a one time connection to the net when it's first used or setup.
(USMLE) Now I understand why you need to focus on that part of your life for a while.

Hi harkaz. After the reboot following the installation of SP4 this file attempts to make a connection: C:\WINDOWS\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v2.0.50727\mscorsvw.exe Only does it one time. It does not try to repeat. When you get around to version 3 of SP4, would you be able to tweak it so that this file...

Hi harkaz. "In the meanwhile, I will complete SP4v3" I'm doing a lot of testing with v2. Should I wait for v3 before making SP4 a permanent update to my system? Will v3 be the final version, or will SP4 be something that will update on a regular basis? If I have updated with v2, will I have to unins...

Hi harkaz. Just stopped by to see if you would be posting the (ported to XP) February Security Update for IE8. Currently gathering together the hardware for a new Windows XP system. Managed to find a new motherboard with XP drivers and got the last of the Gen3 Intel CPUs from newegg, and just ordere...

Follow up questions: If I've already installed some of the Post-EOL updates, and then install SP4; will I have to reinstall those updates? Should I uninstall any Post-EOL updates before installing SP4, and then reinstall them? I have a question about the various .NET Framework versions, but will hav...

I'm sure it's somewhere in plain site, but can you tell me the latest updates/patches included in SP4? i.e. Does it include the November security updates? Does it include updates like Flash, Java or other 3rd party things? It would be nice if I could find a way to edit System Properties to read "Ser...

The SP4 package installs on my XP system with only one required intervention by me: When it is doing the "running processes before install" a message pops up saying "needs to stop HTTP SSL service" before continuing. I click on the Continue button and the installation proceeds to the end without any...

Just curious. When I run the setup, there's no option to choose what to install. For example: I'd like to pass on installing .NET Framework 4.0 (until I need an application that demands it). Was it designed to just install everything, or am I missing a step during the installation? And, thanks for c...

Hi harkaz. I can see you're pretty busy with your main project, but please remember those (maybe I'm the only one) who are interested in your "ported to XP" individual security updates. While I wait, I'm playing around with my new Android tablet. Nice, but I am having a heck of a time getting it to ...

Thanks! I've been checking back throughout the weekend for it's availability. Some time in the future (not a big issue) would you be able to devote some thought to why having Symantec Endpoint Protection on my system (even when temporarily disabled) crashes with a BSOD the very moment I run the setu...

Thanks 5eraph. It doesn't affect me, here in the Mountain Zone, but I wish they would scrap DST. I remember standing on a chair, standing on a table, changing a clock at work. Everything collapsed and I spent the next few days limping around my fellow workers. Someone told me later that only the mai...

Does anyone know what changes are made in the KB2981580 Time Zone update? Is it necessary for Windows XP. My clock already changes to the correct time when spring/fall arrives. Hi harkaz. I'm like a kid waiting for Santa on Christmas eve. But is it too early to ask about KB2976627 (IE8 update) porte...

The IE8/XP update was successfully installed. Users of Symantec products will need to disable them completely prior to updating IE8, otherwise you'll get a BSOD and have to start over. If only MS would see the wisdom of at least continuing security support for Internet Explorer 8. Still used by a lo...

I do understand that IE8 is considered "obsolete", but I still enjoy using it as my main browser (with Firefox as backup). Some day I may have to abandone it, but as long as there are talented people like harkaz to help keep it secure, I'll continue to put up with the website notices that proclaim "...

Thanks, harkaz. I am playing around with the registry tweak. So far it gives me a BSOD, but I'm guessing that, once again, it's Symantec that causing the problem. I just have to find out at what point it happens. I change the registry, and then the moment I turn on Windows Update (which is usually o...

Your IE8 ported update (POS to XP) was very much appreciated. Are you going to be doing the same for KB2957689 MS14-035 (IE8 Cumulative)? I was successful in updating IE8 on my system despite problems with Symantec, and I am very interested in seeing if I can do the same with the June 10th update. T...
